'Hand of God' Spotted by NASA Space Telescope (Photo)

Religion and astronomy may not overlap often, but a new NASA X-ray image captures a celestial object that resembles the "Hand of God."

The cosmic "hand of God" photo was produced when a star exploded and ejected an enormous cloud of material, which NASA's Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array, or NuSTAR, glimpsed in high-energy X-rays, shown in blue in the photo. NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory had imaged the green and red parts previously, using lower-energy X-rays.

"NuSTAR's unique viewpoint, in seeing the highest-energy X-rays, is showing us well-studied objects and regions in a whole new light," NuSTAR telescope principal investigator Fiona Harrison, of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, said in a statement.

I worked at MIT for 25 years as an electro mechanical technician at the Center for Space Research.
We did environmental testing on anything that went into space.Thermal cycling,vibration,vacuum,etc.
We built part of it in Cambridge and then all the different pieces built by different places ended up at TRW in Redondo Beach California for integration.It was deployed from the Shuttle Columbia STS-93 in 98'

When I was in 5th grade, I had an editorial published in the local newspaper about the space shuttle Challenger explosion.  I also went to space camp in 6th grade.  Then I found out you coudln't be an astronaut if you wore glasses, so I focused my energies upon posting on Getbig and bulking up.  I think I made the right choice.

Pretty fucking cool but getting dwarfed bigtime.  You'd look much wider next to a narrower rocket telescope space thingy.
