You have got to be kidding.

I know Eric is a legend, but he basically sucks as far as lead guitar solos are concerned. He is a song-writer, composer, much like Zappa. Eddie Van Halen he is not.

I know, Eddie was "inspired" by him, but not in the way most would assume.

He is the last guy I would choose for a "best guitar solo ever" thread. If I had to choose "old-school" guitarists I would choose Alvin Lee, Dickie Betts, Hendrix, Jeff Beck...

I know lotta guys like Clapton for some reason. Watch his "Crossroads" double live DVD. He has a million guitarists on there. All of them blow his doors off.

Of course, that is only my humble opinion and I don't even play the guitar.

I agree with most of that. (I'm a huge Eddie VH fan.) But did you listen to this? Clapton stepped his game up here. Starts at about 5:09. And I don't think all of those guys were playing Fenders.

There are thousands of high school kids that would outplay him. Most people that think he is great don't play any instruments.

I may be...fuckit, I am, a little drunk...but Clapton didn't make his bones being a composer. He is a great guitarist. And I'm pretty sure I could wipe the stage with you "outby43". Maybe, maybe not; but don't assume I don't play because I recognize the genius in this SOLO.

Fuck it I work with a LP anyway. The original idea was giving props to the whole Fender sound.
