Bush been stashing it, of course, for a rainy day.

Hilary will stop the stash and lower prices.

Thoughts?

this was the first time hilary has snitched on Bush for hoarding oil.

of course, if he opens the tap up in october, and the price of gas drops $1 right before elections... lol

That's one of the stupidest things Clinton has said IMO.
Without the SPR, do you know where prices would have been after Katrina?  :o

It was that SPR that saved your asses. The challenge Bush faced after Katrina, was in re-topping the SPR.
To do so at the time would have caused the prices to go even higher, ...something no one, not the public, not industry could have afforded, so he left it abyssmally low. You're all lucky that another hurricane didn't come along 'cause you all would have been royally rogered. And if my understanding is correct, he has not topped it up since. Do you know how vulnerable that makes you?

We use 20 million bbls per day, importing half of it and the reserve is somewhere around 600-800 million bbls?

It's not that huge of a reserve.  It would sustain our current usage for two months, or keep us off foreign oil for 4 months.

She would be willing to use "some " of the reserve oil as a temp fix to help stem the tide of increased price this summer.

If you charge your golf cart exclusively with your solar panel, the fact is that you won't go very far.  If you assemble an array large enough to run your cart for an significant distance, you will pay much more than using a gasoline engine.

Maybe she can use a few million bbls to lubricate that dry sand vagina.

Tapping into the reserve used to make the Saudis back off the price a bit. Worldwide demand is so high now that it probably wouldn't matter that much. We have to make friends with Venezuela and prepare for when China Invades Taiwan. Not certain how much that invasion will affect the cost of gas at American pumps.

Threaten an invasion, LOL!

We can't fight China, they pretty much own our asses. When they call those notes from Clinton's presidency it's a clear sign that Taiwan is done. Just not sure if the oil tapped there is enough to satisfy their need.

I don't actually believe we should drill in ANWAR. We should just start building refineries and set up for drilling. The Saudis will then back off the price a bit. But the hippies have to understand a simple truth. It's been a long time since a new refinery was built and if we found an unlimited supply of oil in the US today our capacity to handle it is inefficient. Below $1.60/gallon it doesn't pay for US producers to refine oil, we will ultimately need better/newer refineries.

Maybe we should start stealing oil from Iraq.

bush is pushing the south american version of nafta with columbia.

we'll have bases on the columbian border with venez before too long.

hugo already has a lot of forces there.

won't be long before there's some skirmish and we use it as a pretense for an invasion that Prez McCain will start planning on day one ;) lol...

China does not need to invade anybody...they have as much control economically as they need to have. They don't want to go to war with us anyway. I can't see a war with Chavez...i can see us destabilizing him, but his oil is only a short term fix anyway. We need to find a better way.

i always thought hugo was next on our list after iran.

US media branding him evil for speaking some things which - um - are hard to challenge on a factual basis.

I thought he was trying to form that little s. american union to prevent us from picking him off in the future.  Now the US making the deal with columbia, that'll lead to bases there as Bush said, for strategic purposes.  That's oil, right?

Hugo, if you're reading this, put $10 mil in a boat and retire to switzerland.  Or just let US firms dig there.  Be smart.

We don't need bases...a few carriers along with a Marine MEU and they would crumble. There are SF units operating against FARC, that would come across against Hugo, should the ballon go up.

They have to find an alternative that is doable...does not need to be subsidized, and can be fully manufactored inside the US.

Taiwan has oil. China has our debt. A certain very popular president started selling US debt to China in a way that made it look like the surplus was bigger than it was.

According to Oil and Gas Journal (OGJ), Taiwan had 2.4 million barrels of proven oil reserves in January 2006. During the first half of 2006, Taiwan produced 7,910 barrels per day (bbl/d) of oil, of which only 800 bbl/d was crude oil. Almost 90 percent of Taiwan’s oil production comes in the form of refinery gain, resulting from the country’s large petroleum refining sector. EIA forecasts that Taiwan will consume 973,000 bbl/d of oil in 2006, virtually all of which will come from imports.

I guess but nor worth going to war over. I guess if they feel that we won't interfer, but even a short naval war with us will cause them more problems then its worth. And I say that assuming we would not attack targets inside mainland China.

Funny, ...I've been contemplating the same thing. Sometimes I just crack myself up.  ;D

First of all, you probably start by electing someone who is NOT a neocon or who worships at the alter of PNAC

You're right. It takes a socialist to appeal to a socialist.

One of the islands has oil but there hasn't been drilling yet. Give it time..

Remember..  third time is the charm!! Just because the other invasions haven't worked doesn't mean we should change strategies.
