The thing is, Hogan was such a superstar after you feuded with him there was no where to go but down...A main event program with Hogan was your apex, of course there is going to be a letdown after the feud is over. It's not like okay, I feuded with Bret now i can work with Shawn or Austin then Rock. Hogan was so big, you could work with Savage, Perfect whoever, and it would be a step down.
And, I think that was the beauty of guys like Flair, who never “obliterated” his opponents.
It left the chance to revisit the feud.
Think how many recurring programs Flair worked with Steamboat, Sting, etc. over the years.
WWF’s angles were often completely non-cyclical with respect to the over-simplicity of their usual formula for Hogan:
1.) Pick a heel and build him up.
2.) Make it appear as though Hogan can never beat the heel.
3.) Have Hogan crush the heal in a paradigmatic dénouement.
4.) Next…
A feud with Hogan usually culminated with a big match, and that was the peak.
A big match with Flair was “a” peak - i.e., not the last/only one.
At least they kept the Andre angle going for a little while.
And, Hulk did work an extended program with Savage after the “Mega-Powers Exploded” at WMV.
It just never made sense how they used many of the guys who “almost beat Hogan” after the programs.
I mean, after all that time & buildup - just for one night?
