So I got a call back from my doctor a few days ago. My testosterone was really low at only 210; they did say my lh and fsh levels were normal. I have a follow up appointment this afternoon and need your alls advice. What do you think the doctor will want to prescribe? Do I need an estrogen blocker too? Also, what is hcg? Do I need to worry about any of this stuff making me sterile? Basically, I need you guys to tell me the questions to ask before I go in there. Also, why do you think my test levels could be this low at only 28? I haven't noticed any symptoms other than low energy.
As your doctor should explain to you, there are a number of things which can cause low testosterone in men. Firstly in the low test caused by primary or secondary hypogonadism? If your pituitary gland isn't functioning correctly, this could be the problem. TRT doesn't make men sterile, but the side effects of low testosterone (erectile dysfunction) can have an adverse affect on your fathering a child.
The doctor is likely to start you out on a low enough dosage that you won't initially need to worry about adding HCG or an estrogen blocker. HCG is human chorionic gonadotropin. The reason this is prescribed is to insure your body keeps producing testosterone on it's own. It is sometimes prescribed alone for low testosterone.
