The question needs to be qualified...  is this at the top of a bulk or with single-digit bodyfat?  Arm measurements will vary a lot between the two.  Also, flexed or relaxed, cold or pumped?

The people who just pop out a number when asked this have probably never even measured.  ::)

i guess everybody knows the measure counts only if its cold+flexed+not pumped

I think I have to settle with 15 if my bodyfat would be below 5%.   :-\

I wish  :( They are seriously lacking in comparison to my legs, though I train for strength, not size. I'm not hugely bulked, though I'm not single digits either. The size of my arms only varies once I lose or gain about 8-10lb, otherwise they just sit at 17.25 cold flexed. I might do some curls and push downs over the summer when I have more time to train, hopefully grow them a bit. How about you?

So how 'bout dieted down or bulked?  Some of these perma-bulkers toss out impressive sounding numbers, but they'd have shit with less body fat.  Squadfather is the perfect example.  He can claim 18 or 19 or whatever, but if he lost the 100 lbs of blubber he needs to his arms would be scrawny.

how about normal? i know theres a difference between perma bulkers and dieted guys, so the sceneario should be normal, not dieting, not bulking, aka having a life.

Everyone's "normal" is different, depending on their genetics and "normal" diet/exercise regimen.  Maybe they should list bf% along with arm measurement, which would make the arm measurement more meaningful.

I know what you mean, but then most people's body fat distribution varies. When I put on weight it always goes to my hips first and so I don't tend to have fat arms, though my waist could be a little chubby. Other people could be the opposite. I'd say the easiest way to distinguish would be something similar to what benz just said, cold flexed, below 10%, 10-20% or above 20%? Most people won't know their exact BF % anyways and also, even if they did, there's a good chance it's wrong  :)

Yes, you're wrong.  I get up to a 1 1/2" difference between 14-15% which is the highest I ever go, and 8% or so which is what I try to maintain if I'm not bulking.  I imagine the difference is even greater for those that swing from 20%+ to 5% contest shape.

Depends.  It's all relative to your body type, and in a lot of respects it's about illusion.  Some people (like myself and Alex23) have shoulders and torsos disproportionately bigger than our arms, meaning that even a 20"+ arms looks "smaller" on that kind of frame than it would on somebody who has a bird chest.

Try it both ways, cold unflexed and flexed. You should change it up often so as not to get stale in your measurement technique.

My arms are good for 1.25 inches with the pump-used to go up 1.5 inches with the pump.

The real kicker is when I would hit the juice, could add 1.5 inches onto the cold and pumped measurements. Incredible reaction to the juice.

Depends.  It's all relative to your body type, and in a lot of respects it's about illusion.  Some people (like myself and Alex23) have shoulders and torsos disproportionately bigger than our arms, meaning that even a 20"+ arms looks "smaller" on that kind of frame than it would on somebody who has a bird chest.

yeah i have a similar blocky build to what you describe :( broad, strong torso, wide waist and stocky legs, but small arms 'in comparison' (they are still small though keke)
