X^2 + (1.25X)^2 = 19^2
Any ideas, i didn't know where else to ask.
-
you distribute the exponent of the parentheses: (meaning you square everything inside it)
X^2 + 1.25^2X^2 = 19^2
Add the similar terms (X^2 here):
(1.25 + 1)X^2 = 19^2 -----> 2.25X^2 = 19^2
divide both sides by 2.25:
X^2 = 19^2/2.25
Take the square root of both sides:
X = squareroot (19^2/2.25) = squareroot (361/2..25) = 12.67 OR 38/3
practice practice practice!!
good luck

Thank you for taking the time solving it.

geez, i made a mistake... cut me some slack. forgot to square the 1.25 even though i wrote it as such. woopsie. no algebra mistake though.
my apologies.

Holy shit man, can't you even do a simple equation properly??

simple is relative :P the guy is taking beginner to intermediatte algebra i suppose. If he practices he can learn and will indeed agree that it is simple 8)

LOL, i know that it is simple for a lot of people, for me it's as if you write sth in a different language, i cannot read that shit at all.....

Same. It may as well be Japanese to me.

interesting. I've always wondered what math looks like to non science/ non engineering people. I guessed it probably looks like a foreign language... guess im right ;D

have you forgiven me yet? :'(

sorry about my post proceeding the one above... I thought both you and flexb were on my case about the mistake. :P

Well at least to me, math and languages are basically the same.
Both follow certain rules and are a way to encode information, making it understandable to the person that can "read" the language.
I cannot read, speak nor write math, only maybe simple daily conversation like "hello", "how are you", "two beers please" and so on, lol.

hahaha no, I'm dumb and do not understand any of that :P

If you don't know where else to ask other than here, then that equation may not be your biggest problem.

LOL, that's true.

makes perfect sense.

aint that bright myself either lol. I happen to be an engineering student so i've done a lot of math over the years.

I need VB help. 2 dimensional array(i think).
if you have VB installed and want to take a look let me know.

Approximately 11.8692 and -11.8692?
It's been a loooong time.

the answer is 2.
