Title: Would you accept health advice from a chronic, life-long smoker?
Post by: Royalty on December 26, 2013, 12:11:26 PM
Example: a doctor, nurse, nutritionist, or dietician that smokes every 2-3 hours.

I'm curious to hear your thoughts.

It seems like it would be hard to listen to health advisors preach about health, yet knowing all the while, that those very advisors do not take care of themselves.

Could you respect a health advisor who gives advice, but refuses to follow their own advice? (Especially a person who cant go more that 3 hours without a cigarette.... who tries to keep their habbit hidden.)

Real life scenario: Dr's & nurses taking smoke breaks inside their cars in the hospital parking lot.

I used to play tennis with a cardiologist who had a beautiful court at his house.

This doctor was easily 80 pounds overweight.

I imagine it is very difficult for his patients to listen to him regarding all things diet and exercise.

I suppose knowledge and the use of it are 2 different things. Most people know the consequences of their lifestyle and cant / dont want to change it. Thats their personal choice. If their advice is sound and can be applied by you to better yourself then why not use it?

At my job they had three doctors under contract for my region. One was a cardiologist who was also an attorney who was as fat as a house. He had to go under bypass surgery and I don't think he was 50.

I couldnt date a chick that smokes. I cant stand it when a girl walks by, and her clothes smell like cigarette smoke.
