Ravens are cleaning house.  Mason, Heap, and McGahee cut.

Word here is they are signing UH WR Rodney Bradley and SS Mana Silva as FAs.  Bradley was very good before getting hurt.  Very good football speed.  Good hands.  Not sure he's ready to make an opening day roster.

Silva is a ballhawk.  Good football player.  I think he's a long shot to make the team too.

Personally, I believe the Ravens will re-sign Heap and Mason at reduced salaries. Mason can still play, even at 37 years old. He can still be effective as a slot receiver and the Ravens are primed to compete this year for a superbowl. He still has excellent body control and he's one of the best at making the sideline toe-tapping catch in bounds.

Heap can definitely still play but he's always been injury-prone his entire career. If he doesn't come back, it will be strange not to go to a Ravens home game and no longer hear the HEEEEEEEEEEEAP when he makes a catch.

Mcgahee....smell you later bro. You make way too much $ as a backup and Rice is in line for a big extension next offseason. He will definitely compete for a starting job with another team, for sure. He's still a stud with a great nose for the endzone. Probably has the best stiff arm in the NFL. The guy scored 14 total touchdowns in 2009.

I'm hopeful the can find a way to keep DT Kelly Gregg. He's an unsung hero and still an effective player.

Philly got a good starting corner in return.  I actually think it was Arizona that overpaid.  Kolb hasn't done much in the NFL yet (because he hasn't had the opportunity).

I agree they need to lock Jackson up, but I like what they've done.  You can never have enough good corners.

I like the Vince Young signing.  He'll be a quality backup.

Didn't they also sign a DE?

Still blown away as to how the Eagles gang raped the Cardinals in that trade. Rodgers-Cromartie is a damn good starting CB in the NFL. He's a playmaker. I think he has 3 career touchdowns in his four year career. Now you have Samuel and Nhamdi as your starters?? Wow. Who's going to be able to pass on the Eagles in man coverage??

Eagles 13-3 and taking the NFC East if Vick plays in all 16 games.

That's why they signed Jason Babin and Cullen Jenkins. The Giants will finish second to the Eagles in the division. Maybe even behind Dallas.

Do you honestly think defensive coordinators are losing sleep over those two players? Hardly. Zone blocking all day.

Also, its been a year. Teams now have an idea on how to gameplan for that offense. I haven't looked at their schedule but I doubt they will be slaughtering teams like they have last year.

Yeah..I'm stoked that we acquired Leach. I've seen game film of that guy planting middle linebackers on their ass. If we can sign Le'ron Mclain to back up Rice at halfback, the Ravens running game will be deadly. Vonte Leach reminds me a lot of Lorenzo Neal. I'm excited about the Ravens running attack with this pickup. Leach will definitely be a blocking full back primarily. Might get some goalline touches but that depends on whether they can re-sign Mclain. I'm hopeful of that but it might be wishful thinking since he believes he's good enough to be a primary RB.

I think the giants and the eagles match up pretty well.

Week 16, despite an all time choke job (which was a fluke, but philly deserves every bit of credit.), the giants dominated the eagles for 3 quarters. It wasn't competative at all. Conservative playcalling by kevin killdrive and some blown coverage here and there, a line drive punt directly to desean, and the disaster that unfolded were the perfect storm for philly. The better team did not win that game.

I'm not suprised to see the giants being over looked by many though. They usually are not big FA players and they dont have a lot of flash or flamboyant personalities on the team. Even in the NY market they quitely go about their business. They just win.

10 wins wasn't good enough to get in from the NFC East. But 7-9 was good enough to win a horrible division. You're comparing apples to oranges dude. Sure they won 10 games last season but how is that a guarantee that they're going to be better in 2011? Every season is different and any team can come out of nowhere.

Guess what, seattle made it to the post season at 7-9. Does that mean people are looking out for them this year? Of course not.

They were irrelevant. Did they win 10 games? Yes. Did they make the postseason tournament last season? No. Was anyone talking about the Giants when the playoffs started? Nope.

I hope Osi gets traded to the Ravens. But for a 1st round pick? Hell no. Giants better re-work his contract and keep him. 11.5 sacks and 10 forced fumbles is pretty damn impressive.

I don't agree your logic.

All signs point to osi staying a giant. Osi, tuck, pierre, kiwi - best pass rush in the league.

Before today, the giants wanted a 1st rounder for osi. There are new rumors that they'll settle for a 2nd rounder.

No team was going to give up a 1st round pick for osi. Wasn't gonna happen. Its that simple. I can see the pats throwing NYG a 2nd rounder for him though.

He's already reported to training camp. A holdout is yet to be seen.

oh, right. I forgot you're a key member of the Steelers organization. So when the Steelers win, you 'own' people.  ::) I seem to recall the Steelers losing in the biggest game of the year last season. So what exactly did you 'own'? Nobody cares to remember who lost in the Superbowl. Your team better worry about getting under the salary cap and finding a way to restructure some contracts. Go start another gay tumbleweed thread about Big Ben getting married and see if anyone cares next time.

Either way we'll see what happens, bitchwood. Week one ain't that far away.

making the super bowl is a great accomplishment, the steelers have the most appearances and the most wins so for any non steeler fan to talk shit about the loss is just laughable and reveals a major inferiority complex, especially considering your teams colossal choke job against the mighty steelers

everybody will remember the steelers lost because they own every non steeler fans mind, kinda like you remembering a thread i started about 2 weeks ago

the steelers will be just fine, you really think i should be worried about the salary cap?  after all the team overcame last year you think i should be worried about some minor salary cap issues hahaha

Colossol choke job? I guess the bogus penalty on Ladarius Webbs punt return for a TD in the second half didn't make a difference in the outcome, did it? Home town cooking at it's finest.

The Steelers are 11 million over the cap. They're going to have ask some veterans to cut salary or cut some big names during training camp if they refuse a paycut. Not only that, besides Pouncey the O-line is thin and weak and is going to have a hard time protecting Ben in the pocket. It's a good thing he excels at throwing on the run.

And don't even get me started on your pass defense, which is medicore at best. Watch the Superbowl replay if you need a reminder. yeah making the superbowl is great but who fucking cares if you don't win it when you get there?? ::)

Edwards is a serious headcase. He got involved in a bar fight last week, witnesses say he was involved, and tweeted about it right after it happened. The tweet was later deleted.

He's playing for long term contract for the 2012 free agency period. This is like a 1 year showcase for him. Still, despite bad hands he caught 16 touchdown passes a few season ago.

All WR'S are headcases and i am heard about about that early Monday. I have always said that are only two people who can control Braylon and that is his Dad and coach Carr - That is it. Braylon is trying to throw his career away and he is close.

Aside from his stupid offend field issues, I can't help but think that Braylon would be the star WR we all thought he could be f he could just get on a team with a good QB. Frat he was on Cleveland with crappy qb play. Then the jets - don't get me wrong, Sanchez may turn out to be good but so far he has been nothing Special. Overthrows, lacks touch, tons of picks, poor decisions (all common for a youn qb, but still sucks for the WRs on the team. Now San Fran where it is either Alex smith or Troy Smith dude from Nevada (Collin Kaepernick).

Buddy sent me this.  8)

I'm a big 49ers fan and love this pickup. Troy Smith is no longer on our roster so that's not a problem. I was sad that we let David Baas go but then we signed Jonathon Goodwin so it evened out and we also cut Nate Clements's lame-ass so we came out way ahead in my book.

It will be interesting to see if Braylon can push Crabtree as he's a bigger diva than Braylon and he hasn't even done anything the NFL, so we'll see if that has an effect.

Lose Nate Clements/Troy Smith, Gain Braylon, J Goodwin, and Harbaugh good offseason for Wolverine/Niners fans!  ;D ;D

He's definitely a bust.  I doubt he plays like the no. 1 overall pick.  I'd just like to see him be a decent QB.  He'll have enough weapons with Edwards, Crabtree, Vernon Davis, and Gore.

Maybe Harbaugh can develop him?

Kapernick is a freak.  I saw him play at Aloha Stadium several times.  His top gear is as fast as any QB in the NFL except Vick IMO.  He broke about 60 yard run a couple years ago and must only taken about ten steps to get to the endzone.   :)  Strong arm, but I was never really impressed by what I saw (other than his breakaway speed).  Will be interesting to see how he develops.

I'm not so thrilled about picking up a 34 year old running back. If the price was right, i'd much rather have Mcgahee but he's long gone now to Denver.

I'm sure Ricky can still play but.......ehh.

I'm more concerned about picking up a veteran WR to complement Boldin but I guess the Ravens want to develop the young guys they drafted. Jericho Cotchery is likely to come aboard but he's coming off offseason back surgery. He failed his physical with the Jets which is one reason they released him.

He's 230.  That's plenty big enough to play QB in the NFL.  He just looks skinny because he's about 6'6".  I doubt durability will be a problem with him.  He was basically like an option QB at Nevada running the "pistol" offense.  Logged a lot of yards running the ball.  Took a lot of hits.

If he stays healthy this year, he will score 8-10 TD's, easily. You can't teach size in the red zone.

::) ::) You are loosing creditably with that statement. I would think that Henne could least hit Bess in his hands and when it comes to Marshall.....just throw it up there and he will go get it. I had so much hope for Henne when he came into the league but he is looking like a 2nd round bust.  :-\ I think Chad's mental state is just going to get worse since the fan base has givin up on him. I remember seeing Steven Ross (Dolphins Owner) saying that Henne would be better than Dan Marino.  ::) ::) I also felt that the reason Ross drafted him was because they both went to Michigan. Henne has always had a gun slinger mentality.  :-\

I'm losing credibility because I think Henne looked good?   ::)  I watched an 1 hour and 10 minutes of the Miami v. Carolina game while I was on the treadmill this morning.  Say what you want about whether Henne is good, bad, gunslinger, or whatever, but he looked good in that game.  I don't have any opinion on the guy, because I don't see Miami play much, but as for his performance, it was fine.  Had a good command of the offense.

And you can argue with his stats all you want:  15-24, 194 yards, 2 carries for 20 yards.

memo to the N.Y. Giants organization.....you fucked up passing on Plaxico Buress for a mere 3 million bargain. They might have been able to sign him for less with their leverage over him. He publicly said he wantd to come back to the Giants if they would have him.

If he stays healthy this year, he will score 8-10 TD's, easily. You can't teach size in the red zone.

Hell are you talking about? As far as i know nyj offered plax more money and he took it.

That is all i needed to know right there.  ;) I do not know much about San Fran and that is why i respect your opinion on them because i never get to see their games. I watched alot of Miami games last year and he looked lost.  :-\ I would respect your opinion more if you watched him for four years and then watched him at Miami, but for some reason Chad cannot live up to be what he was suppose to be coming out of college.  :-\ Chad was supposed to be the next Tom Brady.

Hell, how can you evaluate a player with just watching one half of a game?  ??? I mean, i know you are not breaking down every throw he makes, but how can you say he is a good player by just watching one half of a pre-season game? If that is the case, then did you see him against Atlanta? Henne was making all the wrong reads and will always rely on his check downs. Henne is loosing confidence in himself.  :-\

What??  How else do you evaluate a one-game performance without watching him play in one game?

You're talking about his career/season-long performances.  I'm talking about what I saw in the preseason game against Carolina.

Twice the $ and twice the bonus compared to what team? The Giants? So the Giants did make him an offer? I could've swore I heard the Giants publicly state that they were not going to make an offer for his services.

Either way, it's the Giants loss. Especially after losing Steve Smith.

Someone tell the Giants front office to try to swing a trade for the Ravens' Dominique Foxworth. He's coming off of an ACL injury and he's not projected to even start for us this year. He's making waaaaaayyyy too much money to be a nickel corner. We'll kindly take a 4th rounder in exchange and free up some cap space.

By the way...Ravens Signed OT Bryant Mckinnie. Not sure what they plan on doing with him, except sticking him on the right tackle side, opposite Oher. If he even starts.

Reese said they were serious about trying to bring him back.

Not sure if he actually gave a shit about nyg anymore because he took the money.

He had a couple nice moments against the bungles but thats not indicative of what he'll do this season.

However, if smith left earlier i think the gmen might have put a little more effort to get plax back.

Regardless, they still have nicks/mannngham and 2/3 of earth wind and fire on the squad.

They just cut UH WR Rodney Bradley.  I didn't think he would make anyone's opening day roster.  He was never the same after breaking his leg.

Mana Silva is still hanging in there.  He's a good player, but is probably headed for the practice squad.

Skins took care of business at home. Can't believed the way they did it though. On both sides of the ball. It looked like 7 on 7 drills out there against us and their defense was not fucking around either.

Gotta say though, I'd rather see the giants start shaky and get it together with the new personnel, then to steamroll through the first half of the season and eventually have the wheels fall off like the past few years.

Just my opinion.  You can make an argument for any number of players, including Lewis, Brady, AP, etc.

When I watch him play, I see a smart, physical, fast player who is all over the field.  Usually making the right decisions.  Completely disrupting the O.  Really dictates the play of the D.  Has to be accounted for on pretty much every play.

So does each of the players I mentioned. Troy is possibly the best safety in the league, but again, a case can be made for Ed Reed... He does not do more on the field than the other players I mentioned... I didn't even mention Peyton as he's injured, but obviously his team is suffering without him.

Do you believe that Pittsburgh would have beat an Indy team with Manning this past week?

I doubt that.

I think Indy likely would have won had Manning played.  That Indy D is very good, especially their D-line.  Freeney is a beast.

He's a very special player.  Very few in the NFL that can do what he does:

Cover 1 on 1
Play zone
Tackle well
And rush passer

Also great instincts.

It means he's definitely putting in the work Earl.

You are the one who talks about how Troy is all over the field and is involved in every play.... Either he is or he isn't. If he is ,then he would get shared tackles and the like if he's doing all of that right?

I understand you don't like to think that anyone other than someone wearing black and yellow puts in work, but let's be clear here... Baltimore almost had a shutout Sunday and you barely squeaked by with a win.

Now, I'm not taking anything away from Palumalu... He is without a doubt the reason why you won, however to think that he's better than Ray Lewis is being disrespectful to someone who has just as much impact on the field, if not more so, then your boy.

That's just the facts, and while I understand that people like to tug on hus nuts, and much of it is deserved, if you're going to sit there and tell me that he is better than Ray Lewis, you're might as well stop the discussion because there is nothing to be gained from it.

I have no bias in this what so ever, but feel free to take in what I'm saying and retort by telling me how I'm some kind of hater.

Here's the irony, though. For all the talk about how horrible the NFC West is, the winner of that division has made it to at least the divisonal round over the past six seasons.

2005 Seahawks: NFC Champions

2006 Seahawks: Divisional Round (the infamous botched snap by Tony Romo, saved the Seahawks in the Wild Card round).

2007 Seahawks: Divisional Round (beat an emotional Redskins team, driven by the loss of Sean Taylor, in the Wild Card round).

2008 Cardinals: NFC Champions

2009 Cardinals: Divisional Round (wild shootout with Packers, beat GB in the Wild Card Round with that sack-fumble-TD in overtime).

2010 Seahawks: Divisional Round (first losing team to win their division, knocked out the defending SB champion Saints, Marshawn Lynch HUMILITATED Tracy Porter with that stiff-arm on the long TD run).

The division may be weak; but its champion has done serious damage in the playoffs.

There's hope for ANYBODY who makes the playoffs. Everybody thought the Saints would have a cakewalk over the Seahawks last year. If you had told anyone that Brees would throw for multiple TDs, the Saints would put up 36 points, but they'd still LOSE, people would have laughed at you.

My Bucs could have run the table, had we been able to get into the dance. That's why I don't like that STUPID strength-of-schedule tiebreaker.

They went 10-6, with just as many conference wins as the Packers (they didn't play them head-up). I wish the NFL had an extra week, for a play-in game, to determine who makes the playoffs.

True.  Not a good comparison.  The MLB is usually the team's leading tackler will almost always have more tackles than a DB.  Only time you see a DB as the leading tackler is when the D sucks.  I've seen that one too many times.   :-\

There are only a handful of linebackers who I'd put in the same category of greatness as Ray Lewis. One of them, YES, is a BUC: Derrick Brooks!!

A linebacker and safety are very different.  Comparing the two is dumb.

I hope no one is saying that because a certian middle linebacker has more tackles That makes him better than Troy.

No... no one is saying that.

I used those stats simply to show that Ray Lewis is obviously doing his job in the NFL today as Earl tried to say that because it's 2011 and not 2001 that Ray Lewis shouldn't be considered the best.

My point was that obviously Ray Lewis, while it being 10 years past what Earl deems Ray Lewis' prime so to speak, that he obviously is working his ass off and that because it's 2011 and not 2001, it takes nothing away from Ray's gameplay.

If you look at who the absolute best players are in the NFL today, and you put Troy over Ray Lewis, you're simply being delusional.

Neither one of them is the BEST player in the NFL... No matter what you want to say, as of this point in 2011, Tom Brady is the BEST player in the NFL.

I don't even like Brady, but that's the way it is.

Hard to argue 1 position versus another.

But, also, hard to argue that Brandy isn't the best QB in the game.  So i agree with you.

Do you think Ray is better ATM then let's say....Willis?

Just like I said comparing Ed Reed to Troy is dumb. Sure, they're both safeties back there but each have different responsibilities against the pass/run. A free safety and strong safety ARE NOT the same.

Ray is not the best middlelinebacker in the NFL right now. I think that goes to Patrick Willis. And I'm the biggest Ray Lewis homer ever. But you don't continue to play 16 seasons at age 36 because of past reputation. He's still out there playing because quite simply...he can still play at a very high level. If Ray's not in the MLB top 3, then someone tell me who are the top 3 right now.

And comparing Suggs to Ray is dumb also. Suggs is a hybrid DE/OLB in their 3-4 scheme and mainly plays with one hand in the dirt.

Ray Lewis is in the class of Clay Matthews sr.(19 seasons in the NFL), Darrell Green(20 seasons), and Warren Moon(16 seasons, not counting the USFL).

He's built to last and made of iron. A very rare type of NFL eliteness. I personally think Ray will try to play until age 38 before he hangs it up. Man, it's going to be a sad Sunday on that first game when Ray is no longer coming out of that tunnel.

IMO, he could easily be a top defensive coordinator in the NFL right now. He's field awareness and ability to read the opposing offense pre-snap, is second to none. And that alone is the reason that he's able to continue playing, despite losing sideline to sideline speed. When you know where the offensive play is going 95% of the time before the ball is snapped, you will always anticipate quicker than the opponent. His intellect and physical work ethic is the reason he's still going strong. He's no dummy.

He also used to be able to shock O-lineman with stiff arms to move them aside and make tackles. But he's lost that strength because I've seen him get pancacked by lineman more frequently over the past few seasons. Still...among the top 3 inside linebackers in the NFL and that's still pretty damn good.

Go Ravens. God, I hope we put a serious ass whipping on the Jets. I can't stand that team. If Mangold doesn't play, Ngata should have a field day in their backfield.

Everything looks good on paper I guess... but when your offensive coordinator has your number, he just has your number.

Smith isn't some genius, but he got the job done and that's what counts.

Well, you don't get the Flex schedule until next month.

That's really where the problem is... You can't "make" games primetime until November.
Title: Re: 2011 NFL
Post by: 2ND COMING on October 31, 2011, 02:26:34 AM
As someone who likes to go to a game once in a while, fuck flex scheduling.

However, it's only implemented in mid season for a reason, so good teams can be identified. In the meantime, snf/mnf games are handpicked based on what teams might be when the season gets here. But predicting success in the nfl isn't the easiest thing to do. Each year there are a handful of new teams that get in the playoffs. You would think the people picking these games would only hand pick the prime time games on the week that 2 elite teams meet and not what might be a sexy match-up. Make the rest random.

Leinart has had many flashes of brilliance... He had a really shitty time in Arizona, but that team was a wreck.

Sure, they made it to a superbowl with Warner, but that was a hard fought run and they didn't get into the playoffs amazingly that year, they just got through the playoffs against teams they should have gotten beaten by, but Warner pulled it out.

He's a hall of famer after all.

Leinart has the tools, but his mental toughness is where he's questionable... He got the shit kicked out of him because the line in Az was so shitty.

I think the Texans team is better this year than all of those Arizona teams and Leinart will be a lot better than he was there.

Will that equate to continual winning? That's a tough thing to determine, but he will be better than in the past just because of the team.

lol.  Not on my radar.  Giants schedule next year is the worst I've ever seen.

But, I will be glad if we face them, since it can only happen if they make the SB.

I like what my Niners have done so far, even with my reservations about Moss.  They're giving Alex Smith enough weapons to work with.  Bringing Ginn back was important for the return game too.

Signing Jacobs spells trouble for Dixon.  Maybe they're moving Dixon to FB?

Don't know anything about AJ Jenkins, but I love the Niners pick of LaMichael James in the second.  I saw that kid play.  He's a little stud.  SF has a crowded backfield, but I'm glad they didn't pass up on a playmaker.

I dont know it seems a bit harsh, they gave the head coach a one year suspension.

I know he was supposedly one of the ring leaders though.

Honestly I could care less but I know it will be hillarious this season when all the saints fans here in Houston are bitching and moaning.

So simply b/c of that I will say fair :)

Your biggest concern is still at the qb position.

dude we got so many refugee's here in Houston from Katrina it was ridiculous. I think the crime rate damn near doubled in Houston for a few months after the influx.

If the saints are playing i basically refuse to go watch it at a bar b/c of their fans. All that "who dat" shit, when they were playing the 9ers in the playoffs everytime Vernon Davis made a catch I would yell and clap mostly b/c he was on my fantasy team but also just to piss those fucks off.

I think I hate them more then cowboy fans to be honest. Actually I know I hate them more than the cowboys fans.

And they are the same turds that wouldn't claim the Saints before Brees and Payton arrived.  Too bad the dumbshits wanted to live in a city below sea level and not listen to warning for days leading up to Kartrina.  Oh brother...."who dat?" is about right for them.

I think Alex Smith turned the corner last season.  And now they've given him Moss and Manningham to go along with Davis, Crabtree, and Gore.  I actually think WR was a bigger need than QB this offseason.

he turned a corner alright...

he turned the "coach told him not to throw the ball that much" corner...

Alex Smith = Trent Dilfer

Alex smith played well last season, he wasnt stellar but limited his mistakes and played to his strengths.

Much like flacco but alot ppl some on this board seem to be ok with flacco...

If I were a niner fan I would be ok with smith coming back this season especially with the new offensive weapons and that menacing defense.

Im not comparing his career only his play last season.

compare smith last season to any season flacco has ever played and its pretty comparable.

If he is on par with last season I dont see him being any worse than flacco. Im not saying flacco is bad at all either he is a good qb that plays to his strengths and away from his weaknesses, just like smith did last season.

Neither are stars, I wouldnt really consider either 2nd teir qb's although flacco is improving.

No, it wasn't his fault. He really is gaining so much valuable experience playing in all of these playoff games. 9 career playoff games in 4 NFL seasons. Flacco deserves his new contract and he'll get it. He's still attending OTA's and he's willing to play out the last year of his rookie contract. That says a lot about his attitude and character, IMO. Just because the D has Ed and Ray doesn't mean the Ravens are an old team. Having a great front office and scouting staff will allow you to be a consistent winner, year in and year out.

The defense will miss Suggs, for sure, but new stars are made every year in the NFL. Next man up.

Flacco aint that good.  He is in the game manager category.  Guys like Brady, Brees, both Mannings etc... can put teams on they're backs to get the win.

He's top 15 in the NFL. No doubt in my mind.

I seem to remember a 92 yard winning drive touchdown pass against the Pittsburgh Steelers this past season. On the ROAD. Something the Patriots haven't done against the Steelers in their house. We're done talking now.... ;)

Look bro...the Patriots are waaaaayyyyy overrated. Yeah, you guys beat us at your house but you know deep down you should have lost that game. Enjoy Brady for another two seasons, tops. You're starting LT just retired and Welker is pissed because Kraft has a bad habit of not paying his veterans when their contracts are up. That might have something to do with the fact that it's been 8 seasons since your last superbowl title.

I would probably give flacco top 10 not b/c of his talent or clutchness but b/c he is a solid qb who doesnt make alot of mistakes.

there is alot to say for a guy who doesnt lose the game.

I dont know if he will ever be one of those qb's that is known for his game winning drives or late game come behinds but you never really here about him blowing games either.

I'm not a Moss fan, but if he shows up, he's a good addition.

Manningham is an upgrade as a WR3.

Alex Smith certainly didn't stink last year.  He passed for 3144 yards with 17 TDs and 5 INTs.  Completed 61 percent of his passes.  13-3 as a starter.  Not all pro numbers, but a huge improvement and far cry from being a dog.
