What made that show great was that despite being set in a suburban Texas neighborhood that was almost completely white with stereotypically southern-acting characters, it was nothing but an endless parody of that lifestyle and those kinds of people generally. Like the time Hank found out he was born in NYC and was so ashamed of it he literally almost had a heart attack when he found out from his dad that it was true. Mike Judge was a great writer. Proof not all liberals are braindead, just the majority.

That law was intended for a different scenario. In this case I doubt it will apply.

The death was avoidable. All parties are stupid. But at the last frame before the shots it appears loudmouth struck potbelly with an object and due to that, they will likely be found not guilty.

You didn't consider one other option: He pulled a Clint Eastwood in Gran Turino and deliberately got himself killed in order to get his annoying redneck neighbors a life sentence or something along those lines. That way he dies a victim rather than a villain (which he would've been if he shot first) and they go away to the dustbin for 30+ years in the bargain. Not everyone wants to live. This guy wasn't even 40 and clearly was looking for trouble.

This happens in wealthy neighborhoods also.....There was a true crime show on TV that featured neighbors getting in fueds and killing each other and many of the incidents depicted were in upper middle class areas or wealthy areas. Usually it's 2 hardheads living next to each other and a fence line or something and neither will back down or be reasonable. Much more common than thought.
