No - far from it - they stopped National Service in the UK in 1960 - people have been calling for it to be re-introduced for years.

William and Harry were always going to serve in the military - it's what so many of their relatives did before them and it looks good on their records too for when they become working royals - it's been instilled into them pretty much from childhood that that's the path they were going to take. I suppose it hasn't done them any harm though - they're both pretty popular here despite being very posh.

Agreed to some degree.....but in N.O., the police response was hampered by the after-effects of the hurricane. In London the lack of a swift, decisive, police response is due to a pussified goverment and liberal views that think you can reason with the lower left end of the intelligence Bell Curve.

We've been through this before - the monarchy actually brings in considerably more into the economy that what we as taxpayers have to pay out to keep it. It's not even close - they pay for themselves several times over through tourism revenue and it only costs about a dollar a year for every man, woman and child in the country to pay for them.
