Sad to hear. When You look up to these guys as a kid it really makes you realize these guys are just like everyone else. Ran into someone last week who knew Mike Mentzer, said the guy was a chain smoker even back in the 70's. I always figured it was a habit he developed later in life. Mike really had no sense at all when it came to taking care of his body or mind.   

I bought his mail order Heavy Duty booklet when I was around 15 and it started out with a story about him and Jack Neary shopping for a booze and there was a comment from Mentzer to the effect that he wasn't a "health nut"

i think so. Several times I remember rumors of him pudding blood back in the early 80s. I also think I remember him having to take time off for health reasons? Don't know if any of these were true but it seemed common knowledge that he wasn't healthy.
