Knee question
« on: February 01, 2017, 06:36:56 PM »
Hello, today i was training legs. I started with squats and than moved to leg presses. On leg presses i warmed up. 1 plate x10, 2x10, ... till 7 plates x10. I did 3 sets of those, well on the third set is when i had a problem suddenly show up. I was about to start my set, unracked the weight and held it in an extended unlocked position (i never lock out my knees), and was ready to lower the weight to start my set. Until i heard some snap. Like a tiny elastic. It was such a little snap though. It felt weird because usually i get cracks and pops in my knees and joints which i am ok with. However this time, it was weird. So i directly unracked the weight. And stood up on my good leg and sat down. Asked a trainer if he knew if something was wrong but they couldn't help me out identify anything. I felt no pain, i could walk on it, go up the stairs, even bend it and extend it. However i didn't push my luck by trying to go too extreme and try squatting or continuing the leg training. I don't know, i might be crazy and imagining things because i am worried, but my knee mightt feel slightly unstable. And at the beginnig, i felt a tiny bit of numbness or it might have just been a leg pump. Do you guys think anything is wrong?

Sorry to hear this

You need to go see a knee specialist immediately

U should wear sometime type of a knee wrap brace if you are worried about the knee giving out on you

Don't know how your knee felt the next morning (sore...limited  ROM), or the morning after that. That could give a clue to the extent of your worry. Sometimes there is a delayed response to a injury the the next day. Any discolor, which might suggest a potential issue (blood vessel ruptured, etc).  Than knee may not be as serious as you would suspect....let's hope not. With a snap or pop, usually a ligament/tendon (inserts) problem. How serious , at this point, has yet to be determined.

If wanting to focus a test on that knee, than might  suggest a simple step up (one of a couple of ways to test), with a platform around mid shine high. If unsteady or a limited amount of annoyance/pain occurs than might suggest a few days off (a week would be advised). Rest tends to be an ultimate healer in some cases.

If still bothered by that knee, would suggest medical attention. But than again, a lot of guy's will work around an injury like that. You call, your body.

Good Luck.

I REALLY appreciate the time you guys took to reply to my thread! I went to a sports doctor in a private clinic. They were actually 2, the official doctor and his student. They played around with my legs bringing them in different angles trying to find a source of pain but they couldn't. They even made me do squats, lunges, and one leg box jumps (all bodyweight). They  told me that it might have been a tendon that rubbed on something or if i am worried that the injury might appear with a more violent weight, to ease down on the weights. Asked them whether i need XRays/MRIs, they said no. I was still worried as i need facts and proof that my knee is ok. However, i went to do back the next day, and  i managed to do bent over barbell rows, deadlifts, and ither exercies that put stress on the knees. Following day i did legs; lying leg curls, seated leg curls, leg extensions, lunges, and SLDL. I decided to skip squats and heavy presses because my knee felt sort of unstable and rusty. To be honest,  all my joints crack alot which i am use to. But i am just worried that in general i have bad joints or maybe just calcification or I'm overreacting.

I disagree-you should get an X-ray and MRI-you don't know if you have a tiny tear or something-go get a solid diagnosis

Looks like you got some solid advice. And thanks for letting us know the results, most guy's don't bother on GB.

Might suggest (if you don't now) keeping the knee area warm (slight blood supply...increased circulation). A light full ROM warmup, for example.  A lot of football players will use a stationary bike. Also knee warmers or a heating style lotion/cream applied before a workout. Knee wraps, not worn too time do have their place. Too tight, they cut off circulation.

Good Luck.

See an orthopedic surgeon if it doesn't get better or the pain won't go away. He should order an x ray and a MRI. If you have a tear or a detached tendon or ligament he should see it. Could also be damage to cartilage. If you do have a tear then stretching can make it worst. Most torn tendons or complete ruptures are easier for a surgeon to fix while it's fresh.

If you just strained your knee then lighten the load and make a light weight heavy by using a full range of motion; a slower cadence in your reps and less rest between sets.

Again if you feel something is wrong with the knee have a orthopedic surgeon who specializes in knees check it out. You don't want to blow out your knee leg pressing a ton of weight on the leg press or squats.
