Title: Cars - what kind of car do you have seriously?
Post by: Big N on July 08, 2012, 06:40:17 PM
Anybody into modifying or upgrading their car? Or better yet what kind of car do you currently drive, whether it's a lease or financed. I currently have a Nissan Murano '09 model.

One of the most reliable mid-sized, reasonably priced sedans on the market. Swap the timing belt, water pump at 100k miles(along with routine maintenance), and that thing will last 200K miles with no problems. I'm a Honda Fan too. 8)

Nice, always wanted a Terminator.

Thanks man! I've always admired Termi's for the longest. So the moment I saw this one at a steal of a price, I bought a plane ticket and took delivery before the dealer's autotrader ad could hit 6hrs old online lol...

I'm guessing the guys on here in states with a low cost of living can afford one or two nice rides.  You can have a 4000 sq ft home in TX and a Bentley Coupe on a policeman's salary in Cali, so some of the stories are true.

Anyway, I sold my Accord, and currently drive a Sentra  ::) until I decide what I want to purchase.

Ha! I'll take that as aimed at me.

If I were to make up a story about owning a Porsche 911, it wouldn't be a 2002 model.

But just because you don't have the means to own a nice car doesn't mean others are that stupid as well.
Oh, BTW ...until you drive a 911 or other vehicle of same caliber you will not know how many chicks you can fuck  ;)

In Florida, NYC & California 911s are all over the place.
Here in Chicago (snow belt) it's somewhat rare to see a 911.

It's hilarious to see all the jealous retards on here. If I posted that I drove a 2002 Honda Civic piece of crap the responses would be a bit different. I just replied to the original topic FFS

Re read my post...there's nothing in there saying that I pick up chicks with my car. Even though it's very easy if I wanted to. You have no idea how much attention during typical daily driving you get until you drive a car that's a bit unusual in your area. Just get into a "box chevy caprice" from the 80s for like $2,000 and put some 26" rims on it. For $5,000 you'll get people staring all day.

In high school my buddy drove a Lincoln LS, very nice car to see an 18 year old in. In the year he owned it, the car was in one way or another responsible for atleast 10 chicks he fucked/got blowjobs from.

Like I said, until you drive ANY sort of nice car ...women will notice it.

I didn't know that either and got a rude awakening when they slapped the cuffs on me.  I was going 68 in a 25  (no alcohol)...  they call it reckless driving

Spent 4 hours in a jail cell, day in court, paid a $200 fine, and had to take a drivers improvement course.... luckily I didn't get any points on my license!

My project is a 69 C10 Chev, every single panel and part hand fabricated, Lexus engine with twin turbo, twin superchargers and NOS. 3 years in the making and less than a month till ready to drive. I am mechanically spastic so have done no mods myself. My builder is a genius, so it works out good.

i used to have a vectra as a company car boring as fuck but comfortable and reliable

the new insignias are much better

Yea its a nice big car and plenty of room for me.

Insignia's look nice but I am unsure about the back of them, remind me of the Proton Gen-3's.

Mine is a 2.2 SRi so its quite economical also

Reminds me of the old joke what's the difference between a 600WHP Supra and a 900WHP? nothing they both run 12.2 in the 1/4 mile  ;D

Lots of Supra's are dyno queens but some are dead serious but they are few and far in between , I always liked them though even before that crappy movie

3rd gen f body, awesome cars, they had verything a car needs, the cars after those are for homos who lve to have a million useless electrical gadgets.

great car,man.

My dream car at age 10 was a 3rd gen camaro. I came across a beautifully restored one on craigslist recently, 383 with aftermarket high flow TPI, Vortech V2 supercharger, T-56 6 speed, Ford 9" rear, and perfect body and interior. The owner said it made around 600hp. I was so tempted to buy it, he was only asking 11k and it was truly flawless. I just couldn't justify owning another sports car though.

Has the car actually ever gone down the track?
It'll run a 9.99 on 18" drag radials with my shitty driving. It doesn't hook up for shit with the 19's that are in the picture.
If I was really into drag racing and put 15" slicks and had some help from Boost Logic or any other Supra based drag racing shop, it could put down some really fast times.

haha, I see you are familiar with Supras. The guys that take it really serious have learned to put the power to the ground, Supras hold some records for fastest IRS cars in the quarter mile.
I am not a big drag guy, hence the smaller twins instead of the massive single most guys have. I boost early and the car is very driveable.
I am more into road racing and highway pulls.
Not many cars can hang with a modded Supra from a 65mph roll.

Yeah, thats where I was going. I've seen Supra's making between 600-1200hp and non of them go faster than mid 11's, besides serious drag cars. Props if the car actually went 9.99
Im into drag, circle track and road racing.

To me, highway rolls are just a dick measuring contest, youre taking the driver out of the equation and just measuring horsepower.

I drive an X6 5l twin turbo. Dont like new cars much and dont like any other BMWs

The X6 is a fun vehicle, but it has a shockingly small interior given the external dimensions.  It appears to have been made for people under 5’8”. :(

The back seat is only good for your cat or a bag of groceries.

You got a point, I mostly only use the front seats or sometimes the little kids in the back. My wife drives a Q7 which is really practical for the big family car.

I currently have an '06 H2 Hummer, '05 Dodge Ram Hemi Quad Cab, and a basically stock '77 Yellow Corvette with manual tranny.  Rather than purchasing a new vehicle, I plan on swapping a Duramax into the H2.  Still not quite sure what I want to do with the Vette, however...I have a ton of options.

Past cars have included:

'01 Trans Am....Forged Heads/Cam, 4000 Stall, 150 Wet Shot + 150 Dry Shot...dynoed at 683 RWHP 714 RWTQ...ran a best of 10.31 up at old Moroso track on a hot, shitty August day.  I think I'd hit high 9's if track conditions were better and it were cooler out.

'85 Trans Am....High compression 383 stroker putting out close to 500 RWHP on a 3-speed Auto...car was a fuckin' blast to drive.

'79 Lincoln Town Car Continental.....the picture below was basically what it was....I had plans for swapping a 5.9 Cummins into it but there was just too much rust that would be too costly to properly fix.  I sold it...was a damn boat, though.

My parents have 87 Lincoln Town Car with the 5.0, single exhaust, they had a 78 T-Bird, Diamond Jubliee Edition, with the 351 in it. I believe I could have done something with that, with my dad's help at the time, but he is cheap. They junked it.

My dream car when I was a teenager was a 1988 Fiero GT and the late 80s early 90s Acura Legend Coupe, specifically the mid 90s one with 230 hp, and the Acura Vigor.

No, never been, to be honest I'm not into drag racing, but appreciate the engineering and time that goes into it---I love the car shows. The closest one near me is MIR ( Buds Creek?) which is about 3 hours away. I couldn't justify that. Although, when I was a teenager, the guy across the street had a trans am that he took down there.
I am going to make it a point to go to one.

We have it pretty good down here near sea level. Seen a lot of guys from up north come down here and run their best times. As long as the track is prepped well the racing down here is always top notch.

Mike has some cool ideas and his shop is amazing, i haven't been out to it in a few years though.

Ya there is alot of difference racing at sea level, we have to change the complete nitrous tune up, and sometimes even take some first gear away, and then that changes the clutch set up, but you are right many do run their best. Have you ever been down by pensacola, a few years ago we raced there and the corrected altitude was 485 feet below sea level. everyone was burning their shit up. We had to replace a few pistons between rounds.

I often go racing with our customers to help them get their cars lined out. Then if they want me to keep going we work out a deal. But as of this time I am not with 1 specific team

I plan on going back on the road with a team when i figure out if I want to go nhra racing or back to adrl

I think he is talking about a stock car, from the factory, with a warranty, interior, airbags, and doesn't look like it's been hacked up, with stock engine, and would last 100k-200k miles.
And would pass all emissions (gas, carbon, noise, etc).

One of the most reliable mid-sized, reasonably priced sedans on the market. Swap the timing belt, water pump at 100k miles(along with routine maintenance), and that thing will last 200K miles with no problems. I'm a Honda Fan too. 8)

New MPG rules: Gas savings, but car prices to rise

Tough new government fuel-efficiency standards mean consumers will pay more for their cars but realize big savings on gas.

The new rules, issued yesterday by the Department of Transportation and the Environmental Protection Agency require automakers' average fuel economy to nearly double to 54.5 MPG by the 2025 model year. In the complicated math of Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE), however, the actual MPG number shoppers will see on the window sticker will be considerably less.

The government estimates that the average car will cost about $2,000 more by 2025 because of expensive new technology, but that big gas savings will more than offset that price hike. Consumers Union, the organization that publishes Consumer Reports, praised the new mileage requirements. "These standards mean that consumers will be able to save thousands of dollars on gasoline over the life of their vehicle," said Shannon Baker-Branstetter, policy counsel for the organization.

The standards also will produce major reductions in oil use and greenhouse gases, said the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy. The advocacy group estimates that U.S. oil consumption in 2030 will be 3.1 million barrels a day lower because of the cumulative tightening in fuel economy rules between 2012 and 2025.

However, skeptics question whether higher purchase prices for cars will scare off car buyers. "CAFE risks requiring automakers to build vehicles and adopt technologies that consumers may not want to buy," said Jeremy Anwyl, vice chairman of auto auto research site Edmunds.com. Some Republican lawmakers criticize the rules as too costly for consumers and say they will repeal them if Republican nominee Mitt Romney becomes president.

The pricing problem already is evident with electric cars that cost around $40,000 before tax credits. For instance, the Nissan Leaf sold only about 3,150 cars in the first half of this year. The Chevrolet Volt (pictured above), which has a backup gasoline engine as well as battery power, did somewhat better.

But to meet the standards automakers will have to convince consumers to buy hybrid and electric vehicles. To that end, the new rules contain some specific encouragement:

•Incentives for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles as well as for fuel-cell vehicles, which are not yet commercially available

•Incentives for hybrid and other mileage-boosting technologies on large pickups
•Credits for other technologies that can achieve reductions in greenhouse
 gases.

In addition, automakers will continue to rely on improvements in conventional gasoline engines. Already in response to the first phase of the mileage standards, many manufacturers offer cars rated at 40 MPG in highway driving, a level of fuel efficiency that was unheard of even a few years ago.

Audi's First Electric Supercar To Feature In IRON MAN 3

Parting ways for a custom Acura NSX in Marvel's The Avengers big assembly, an Iron Man 3 set photo has revealed playboy Tony Stark will be reunited with the Audi R8; the 1st all-electric one in fact!
DCMarvelFreshman- 10/26/2012

Despite reports that Marvel's playboy billionaire Tony Stark will get a sleek new 2014 Bugatti Veyron for his third solo cinematic outing, a photo recently surfaced via GTSpirit, picturing Robert Downey Jr. on the Iron Man 3 set alongside his beloved Audi R8. However, this is no ordinary Audi. Judging by the graphic imprinted on its windshield, this is Audi's first Electric supercar, the R8 E-Tron. The supercar's inclusion in the Shane Black-directed movie is a actually a surprise because it was reported just days ago that Audi was cancelling plans to develop the all-electric R8 E-Tron for mass production. So, in a way, the Audi R8 E-Tron is being featured in Iron Man 3 exclusively.

Anyhow, this news doesn't exactly debunk reports that Stark will be seen behind the wheels of 2014 Bugatti Veyron. However, given that Tony parted ways with Audi for a customized Acura briefly in Marvel's The Avengers, it's great to know the two are being reunited. What do you think?

I have never done any engine modifications or anything electrical.  But I have done some very basic body customization.

I used to have a red Mercedes Benz C230 Sports Coupe which I put on this BIG ASS 'Fast and the Furious' type Spoiler...  Shit was a bit tacky and very random looking but I thought it was cool!  Car was flashy and I ended up in jail for speeding with it one night  ;D

Similar to this but the spoiler was the same body color as the rest of the car (and I didn't have an AMG):

you shoulda been deported sand guy

Also had a grand cherokee which I pimped out with some accessories rhino bumpers, running boards, light gaurds, racing pedals, and a chrome exhaust tip!  I wanted to put some off-road lights on the top on and on the grill, but I ended up selling it before getting around to it!

I'm guessing the guys on here in states with a low cost of living can afford one or two nice rides.  You can have a 4000 sq ft home in TX and a Bentley Coupe on a policeman's salary in Cali, so some of the stories are true.

My rides are boring and just practical. I bought a new Camry for myself with a 6 speed standard and a brand new Altima for the wife. For the $44k in cash I spend on those cars I could have had one nice sports car. The top priority for me is making sure my car is reliable;  comfortable and gets decent gas mileage. The Camry and Altima fits that description. The seats in the 2012 Altima are amazing. Nobody gives a  fuck about the seats but if they are not comfortable the car stinks for me.

I drive a 5-year old Civic. Great on mileage, very reliable.

Not easy on the eyes compared to the rides you studs roll thru the hood in. But then I don't care. I'm packing enough in my pants and in my bank account that I don't need to front with a flashy car to impress people in general.

Also, a tip to fellow management consultants: don't show up to your client site in a fancy car. Downplay how much money you make. No client likes to feel like they're paying their consultant too much money...or at least enough money to ride around in a Ferrari. Employees at any company can take this to heart. Trust me...your CEO doesn't like looking down in his parking lot and seeing your expensive car. It may have some type of effect on your salary increase come review time. How could he not think "I'm paying Jones a bit too much I think...look at that brand new Audi".

There's a flipside though too...don't pull up to your client site in a jalopy. You at least need to give the indication that other clients find you smart enough to have hired you before them, and paid you enough money to allow you to buy a decent car.

Compromise...the long lost art.

Arizona Sale of Rare Cars Draws Rich and Envious

By FERNANDA SANTOS

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The way Steve Davis sees it, arranging collectible cars for display at auction is like writing the script for a good action movie: “You’ve got to have a beginning that gets you excited, a middle that grips you and an end that delivers.”

Barrett-Jackson, which bills itself as “the world’s greatest collector car auction,” had several tents mounted on the same expanse of green grass where horses and players convened for a polo match some months ago, as well as a main pavilion where the rarest and most valuable of all the vehicles could be found. Mr. Davis, the company’s president, arranged each of them, looking to offer “an experience” for the more than 310,000 visitors who came by over the course of six days, but ultimately to entice buyers.

He positioned a 2005 Chevy Silverado by the main pavilion’s entrance, which was right by the building where 5,000 people whose combined lines of credit hit nearly $1 billion signed up to bid on roughly 1,400 vehicles — not including the potential buyers who needed no credit check to place their bids.

Some of the cars were extraordinarily expensive, others were there to suit the middle market, but all of them were objects of someone’s desire, from the custom-built quarter-scale replica of a John Deere tractor, sold for $7,500, to television’s original 1966 Batmobile, sold for $4.62 million. (Except for the vehicles that were sold for charity, all prices include the buyer’s commission.)

Cars were not the only attraction, though. There was a mall at which vendors were selling diamond earrings, private jets and handmade cowboy boots; racing simulators to entertain children and adults; and a lounge where women could get their hair and makeup done while sipping wine, away from the dizzying chant of the auctioneer.

“Spending money is the sport here,” Mr. Davis said.

And there were many enticements. The elaborately customized Silverado pickup was literally a work of art, its body adorned with scenes of combat, patriotic monuments and firefighters emerging from the smoldering remains of the World Trade Center towers. It had a polished stainless-steel frame, a hand-molded fiberglass interior, airbrushed leather seats and a formidable stereo system. Its owners, Dale and Connie Ison of Hillsboro, Ohio, said it took five years, 50,000 hours and $658,000 to get it the way it is. It sold for $209,000.

The Isons said the truck was, more than anything, a repository of memories. Mr. Ison, 61, recalled meeting the son of the sailor famously pictured kissing a woman in Times Square on the day in August 1945 when the war against Japan ended, an image reproduced on the Silverado, which has been to county fairs, Veterans Day parades and even the Pentagon’s courtyard, but got to be “too much for a man my age.”

Six slots in — next to the 1946 four-door Cadillac sedan that featured a rear-mounted shotgun, cowhide seats and bull horns on the hood (sale price: $77,000) — Norma and Vernon Wamsley said goodbye to the 1954 Kaiser Darrin convertible that had been theirs since 1989, when they bought it “in pieces, nuts and bolts in pails,” as Mrs. Wamsley put it.

She snapped a picture of her husband, who seemed more anxious about how much the car would fetch at the auction than about giving it up for good.

Barrett-Jackson featured the largest number of no-reserve cars ever auctioned, or cars that are sold to the highest bidder, regardless of what the bid might be. It is a risky proposition for the seller, as well as an enticement for potential buyers, given the possibility of bringing home a car for a lot less than what it is worth.

“We’re hoping to get good funds,” said Mr. Wamsley, whose Kaiser Darrin sold for $106,700.

Barrett-Jackson began as a charity fund-raising car show in the 1960s and evolved into the big event that it is today — exclusivity cloaked in a carnival atmosphere. While high rollers in skyboxes dined on scallops and sea bass, others had plenty of food choices on the pavement outside, including hot dogs and funnel cake.

“I’ve been coming here for 10 years and it always blows me away,” said Jeff Otto, 52, who had never placed a bid and had no plans to bid on any car. He had flown in from Denver, bringing his son, Christopher, who is 14, and his father-in-law, Jim Stewart, who is 72.

This year, gross car sales reached nearly $109 million, a 17 percent increase over last year and a tie for the record set in 2007, before the economy collapsed and car collectors kept their most prized possessions in the garage, knowing it was not a good time to sell.

On Saturday, a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL, which Clark Gable had bought for $7,295, sold for $2.03 million. The Batmobile — customized in 15 days, on a $15,000 budget, out of a 1955 Lincoln Futura — also sold that night, as did 21 vehicles whose proceeds went for charity. One of them was a 2009 Ford F150 Super Crew pickup truck owned by President George W. Bush (sale price: $300,000). Another was the first 2014 Corvette Stingray to hit the retail market (sale price: $1.1 million).

Craig Jackson, chairman and chief executive of the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company, said the event, which ended on Sunday, is “a scene, it’s an attraction.” But the cars, he went on, are “first and foremost a huge investment.”

The G63 6x6 is six-wheel drive. That means it will be able to scale Mount Everest in total comfort, drive a group of four from China to Latvia with nary a worry, as well as terrify small indigenous tribes that have never seen a moving vehicle, let alone one that looks like it's out to murder you.

However, you'll likely see it in its natural habitat, scaling the parking garage at the local galleria during a sale at Neiman Marcus.

The G63 6x6 is powered by the G63's twin turbo V8. That equals 536 horsepower and 560 pound feet of torque. The torque split betwixt all six wheels is a nice 30:40:30. That adds up to 0 to 60 in under six seconds and a top speed of 100 MPH. That might sound slow, but it has 37 inch tires and weighs, weight (!) for it, 8,322 pounds.

There are also five locking differentials, I guess so you can drive over everyone else waiting to valet park for the opera.

It sounds like an absolutely manic offroader. It can ford depths of 39.3 inches, which should be enough to drive through the deepest puddles you'll find on a rainy day in Los Angeles. You can also inflate and deflate the tires from the inside, which means you won't scuff your shoes filling up the tires at the local Valero.

The cargo bed is finished in polished bamboo, which sounds rather lovely. It'll also be a great way to transport your new Prada merchandise.

To be serious for a moment, this thing looks incredible. It has off-road capabilities that you only dream of these days and can probably tackle anything you throw at it. It looks like it'll be perfectly at home on sand dunes and mountains. In fact, it looks like it would actively try and destroy you if you drove on a paved road. I love this thing.

Mercedes will build about 20 to 30 of the trucks each year at a price of somewhere around $450,000. If you want one, you better get in line behind members of the Dubai royal family as well as Paris Hilton. Probably.

Not my exact car, but very close to it.

1993 RX7 R1 - mine was fairly well modified, front mount Greddy intercooler, Pettit Racing Cold Air Intake, HKS T4OZ single turbo at 18lbs of boost, 3" downpipe, free flow cats, Racingbeat 4" cat back, 1600cc fuel rail, lightweight flywheel and Exedy stage 2 clutch, short shift kit, and various other gadgets, along with Aragostas coil over suspension system.

Funnest car I've ever driven and would smoke Porsche Turbos, Ferrari's whatever.  Only had problems with heavily modified Supras in a straight line, once that second turbo kicked in they would start to walk away a bit.  One day I'll build another when I have the gumption to do so.

I had a buddy of who had a 9 second RX2.  They are very popular down in Puerto Rico.  Thing was retarded fast, scary to drive in fact.  I'm not much of a straight line power kind of guy, I like driving through twisties and handling is more important than brute force power to me.  That's what I loved about my FD, fast as hell and could turn on a dime, like riding on rails.  I have yet to drive a car like it, at least one that got my heart racing just walking up to it keys in hand.

I was thinking of building a 3 rotor 20b if I did another build, but they are getting very hard to get a hold of now.

IRON MAN 3 Image Shows Off Tony Stark’s New Audi

After parting ways for The Avengers last year, the hotly-anticipated Iron Man 3 movie will not only temporarily reunite Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark with his Malibu mansion, but also his original trademark vehicle: the Audi. As seen in the newest trailer, Stark will get behind the wheel of a 2012 Audi e-tron, the German automaker’s first electric car, but not just for product placement. Variety reports that “Marvel was looking for a car partner that could provide a hybrid or electric-powered convertible for the movie since the drop top plays a significant role in the script.”How major that role is, is unknown, but the latest Iron Man 3 still showcases the marketing deal.

Along with everything else at Tony Stark’s seaside Malibu mansion, The Mandarin’s attack will see Stark’s new electric-powered Audi tumbling into the Pacific ocean, as framed in the latest trailer. Therefore, its supposed significant role should play out early on in the film. However, there was a description for a tie-in Hasbro Battle Vehicle that suggested “Tony Stark’s stylish ride launches your Iron Assembler figure out of the front, mimicking a scene from the movie.”

saw a used Audi s4 a few weekends ago. it was dark metallic blue, 18'' black rims, leather seats, GPS/DVD player...everything cosmetically looked really nice, but the owner didnt really take care of it. As we test drove it, sounded like the wheels where going to fall off, E-brake had a problem... the list of problems kept growing and growing. guess thats why it was so cheap.

10 Cars Every Man Should Drive Before He Dies

Ever since the dawn of time, prehistoric man has wanted to go faster than the puny legs God gave him. Mostly because he was tired of having to give up one or more of those legs to a hungry sabertooth tiger, but the speed instinct was there nonetheless.

So they took a flat rock, rounded it out and invented the wheel. Little did that caveman who came up with such a simple yet brilliant design know he would set into motion the wheels of change that would bring mankind to new heights and faster speeds. Since then, car companies have designed automotive works of art that defy descriptions and must be driven to truly be understood and loved. These are the rides every man should experience before he shuffles off this mortal coil, including the one that takes them to the cemetery.

http://japandailypress.com/honda-reveals-worlds-fastest-lawn-mower-capable-of-130-mph-1932576/

Honda reveals world’s fastest lawn mower, capable of 130 MPH

Mowing your lawn used to be one of the most boring tasks in the world. We say “used to be” because Honda’s U.K. unit has built what could bring heap-loads of awesome into lawn mowing – the Mean Mower, which they dubbed as the “world’s fastest” lawn mower. Honda, one of Japan’s leading automakers, claims that this speedy mower can reach speeds of 130 miles per hour (209 km/h), a speed that certainly puts substance behind that claim.

The title for “world’s fastest mower” – if there is one – was first claimed by Bobby Cleveland of the U.S. firm Gold Eagle in September 2010, riding in a custom-made Snapper model reaching a speed of 96.5 mph. Honda says that the Mean Mower registered speeds of over 100 mph during testing in the track, already breaking the speed posted by Cleveland and Gold Eagle. Honda added that their inspiration for the concept was to build a machine that looks like a mower and cuts like a mower, but would be as comfortable in the race track as it is in the lawns of city suburbs.

The design itself was taken from one of Honda’s more conventional models, the HF2620. But that is where the conventional ended and the fun started. Honda then added a custom-made chassis and swapped the standard lawn mower engine with a 1000 cc motorcycle engine used in Honda’s VTR Firestorm, adding around 50% more power to the lowly mower. The cutter deck is made of fiberglass, cutting down the machine’s weight to 308 pounds (140 kg). Other additions were a fuel tank, a high-capacity oil cooler, and a secondary water cooling radiator.

Honda released a YouTube video on Wednesday showing that its new concept mower does exactly what it claims. The video features Scottish racing driver Gordon “Flash” Shedden in the seat, driving around a lawn doing crazy turns with the Mean Mower. The video is cool and all that, but the actual cutting speed is still a very lazy 15mph, but even that is twice the speed of Honda’s conventional mowers. Honda says that the new mower can go from 0 to 60 mph in about four seconds, but also making a darned awful noise at 130 decibels. At these noise levels, users may actually need protective gear for their ears to avoid permanent hearing loss. There is no news as of now whether this new concept lawn mower will be made available to the public.

gotta few now

LS430
Q45t
G35 Journey
Tahoe

my ex has my Denali, since she has the kids most the time... at least she pays for gas.

Durgango R/T with blown motor
Mustang GT with a motor that's about to blow

no more sports cars (too hard to get into... and shift with ass-cheeks full of oil), or German lux sedans ($120 freakin oil changes, Christ).

i'll probably get rid of all of them and move to an LS460L and a QX56... probably keep the G35J since it's what my girl drives.

1. I liked it better than the Benz and a truck fits more my personality. I've always either driven a truck or an SUV. The benz would have been my first car in years. Ride's almost as smooth and just as nice inside and the leg room in back is unbeatable.

2. When we do speed camps, combine training, go on a trip etc I can haul my equipment in the bed and not shove it in a trunk.

Trucks are far more practical than a car.

No, it not!  How much gas do you burn weekly in SC traffic?  That thing probably goes through a 1/2 tank just sitting idol in traffic.

You could have got the c300 and a Lexus RX with a trailer for less.

Originally designed to lure Nascar legend Richard Petty away from team Ford, this Plymouth Road Runner Superbird is the "perfect storm" of muscle cars: powerful, insane looking, and really, really rare.

The Superbird was powered by the most epic sounding engine ever: the 440 Super Commando Six Barrel V8, which easily pushed the four-speed transmission beyond 200 mph.

Oh and that four-on-the-floor transmission? It was bolted to this shift lever, made by Hurst to resemble what must have been a medieval torture device. Brutally awesome.

The car was aerodynamically tuned for the race track, which meant that all of the crazy styling was completely useless untill you hit 60 mph. Nobody has ever cared about this detail.

In the 70s this was about the only view of the Superbird you could hope to have as it blew past your jalopy going Mach one.

Driving in the snow can be incredibly fun... right up until you get stuck and realize you've gotta walk 15 miles in the snow (up hill, and both ways at that) to get help. Solving that problem and enabling you to play in more powder than Tony Montana, the guys behind Track 'N Go have managed to turn your ordinary truck into a snow-eating tank with these tracks that essentially clip onto your tires.

The company originally made their mark by making a similar conversion kit for bikes, so they know a thing or two about playing in the snow.

So long as you've got a 4x4, you can put 'em on just about anything. Simply use a nifty little ramp that comes with the purchase to drive onto them, and they snap into place. Unlike other track systems, these are driven by the tires, so you just drive along normally and pay no attention to the fact that you're driving around in several feet of snow.

Hennessey Venom GT Reaches World Record 270 MPH at the Kennedy Space Center

On February 14, a Hennessey Venom GT reached a top speed of 270.49 MPH on a runway at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, making the 1,244-horsepower supercar the fastest 2-seat sports car in the world. The record attempt was performed on a 3.2-mile space shuttle runway. The car’s pilot, race car driver and test engineer Brian Smith, accelerated for 2.4 miles, using the remainder of the runway to decelerate from 270 MPH to zero.

Great car.  I've got the V6 Mustang and it too delivers 30+ mpg.  I like the Camaro's exterior better (especially the convertible) than the 'Stang's and vice versa on the interior.  Since I sit inside, I chose the Mustang.  Both are childhood favorites along with the Challenger.

ya, obviously there are nicer cars out there, but this is saving me $300 / mth in fuel over any other vehicle I have.  it's the nice six cyl.,  has the heated leather seats. and since today is our first day above freezing, that's good.

Land Rover Defender. She's a beast, can be a bit temperamental in colder weather but for what I use her for there is no substitute.

Also use a 2004 Toyota Corolla for normal everyday things like driving into town for shopping. Again nothing fancy but one of the most reliable cars Ive ever used, never gives any trouble and will run forever. Before this one I had the previous generation model (1995) and got 350,000 miles out of her!

My dad used to have a Merc C class saloon that I drove a few times and it just didn't have that special feel that I thought a Merc would/should have. My brother drives a BMW 5 series and you can definitely feel the difference in quality compared to a lesser make.

I wouldn't mind it if I could afford a new Dodge Ram pickup in white.  But alas, I cannot.  Had an 03 F150  and liked it very much but my wife needed a car so I traded it in on a Passat for her.

Wish I still had my Toyota pickup.  It was a '95 (?) or whatever was the last year before the Tacoma came out.

Debating between a x3 35i or a 3 series wagon right now, the x3 drives sloppier but the wagon is stupid overpriced for a 4 banger and we don't get the euro v6 option over here. But the 2015 x3 has no msport package out until may.

I was driving SUVs here for 16 years here - mostly because of the kids, wakeboards, bikes etc - this time I just decided I wanted something a bit more fun to drive. They have some decent roads here, although Bangkok does get gridlocked.

The biggest upsides - you don't get pulled over by the cops in it and when you drive into a full car park, the security guards will guide you to a "pride of place" area where you can leave your car.  Not sure why - but I suspect they like to have nice cars lined up at the front.  So basically - you'll be driving behind 4 Toyotas all looking for spaces, then you hear a whistle, the guard waves you over, moves some traffic cones and gives you that place to leave the car.  Bung him 20 Baht (75c) and you'll be waved in every time you go there.

Poor countries like Thailand aren't void of money - it's just not very evenly distributed.  Go to Starbucks @ Tops on Thong Lor any Sunday morning and you will see about 10  $1million+ cars there - all owned by guys that look like they should still be in diapers. A lot of them are illegally imported because of huge car taxes (even my 320i cost $80k), so these guys are probably the sons of politicians, senior police, senior armed forces etc. - lots of money and total exemption from the law.

Bottom line - even a cheaper BMW like mine is fun to drive. I rented a new Honda Accord whilst waiting for the BMW and it was like steering a fish. Nice, smooth ride but no guts and no personality.

I've been in my ex boss' GT3 and A8. Been in a Ferrari 458 Italia (only passenger) and BMW X6 custom built. Obviously nice cars and all that. Drives .. well I don't really know. It drives better than my Honda for sure. But for me it's 110% NOT worth dropping any money on a car that expensive. Even if I had it (which I don't), I'd never see the value in spending 100s of 1000s to essentially connect A & B.

However, different strokes and all that.

Well - I couldn't afford a Ferrari, so I can't comment. I don't expect to be able to either!

As an English guy, I think it's a fucking outrage the cost of cars here. A couple of weeks ago I was in Singapore and over lunch, the woman I was having lunch with explained that they had just paid S$115,000 for a one or two year old 7 seater Citroen. In US dollars, that's $91K,for a Citroen!  Cars are REALLY, REALLY expensive in Singapore plus they have some odd regulations intended to keep as many people off the road by making it expensive.

The bottom line is her husband is in sales, needs a car and that's how much they are there. So you either get one or not.

So I don't think it's about splashing out on a really expensive car as much as living in a place where cars just cost a load more. The flip side is that food, electricity, fuel, property is all VERY cheap where I live. In Singapore everything is expensive. In Thailand, cost of living wise, it does start to balance out.

You should try Ireland, UK cars are a steal compared to over here. Plus with the price of fuel we pay here in Europe we are getting screwed big time. Americans don't realise how good they have it, I drove across the US and Canada before and couldn't believe how cheap fuel was and meanwhile all over their news at the time was stories about how gas prices had hit an all time high over there.

Americans have had a long-running love affair with the automobile, and in 1982, David Hasselhoff drove into our hearts as Michael Knight in an artificially intelligent, indestructible supercar fashioned out of a 1982 Pontiac Trans Am named KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand). Fans created this KITT car and gifted it to Hasselhoff. This is not your standard 1986 Firebird. Inside and out she is fashioned after the beloved icon, including KITT’s distinct exterior lighting and scissor doors. Her custom interior features w-style yoke steering wheel and an elaborate digital dash and console. She is rear wheel drive and powered by a 5.0 liter V-8 engine with automatic transmission. She is programmed to speak with over 4,000 sound bites from the classic television show  Knight   Rider . The car was made by Jennifer Catano.

Please note this item is on display at the Museum of Style Icons in Ireland until April 27, 2014.  The winning bidder is responsible for all costs associated with moving and shipping this item.

PROVENANCE From the Collection of David Hasselhoff

You should try Ireland, UK cars are a steal compared to over here. Plus with the price of fuel we pay here in Europe we are getting screwed big time. Americans don't realise how good they have it, I drove across the US and Canada before and couldn't believe how cheap fuel was and meanwhile all over their news at the time was stories about how gas prices had hit an all time high over there.

Then look at prices here in NZ dude. We get bent over and rammed hard. Don't even get the benefit of being greased up first.

In the UK I've had a Z4 before I was 25. I've had all the 'name' cars before settling on a 3 series Beemer and a new Clio as a run-around. Cheap as chips back home.

Over here they take the piss. Cars with 150-200k on the clock often goes for close to 5 grand GBP and a decent runner would set you back double that. I'm looking at buying a Ford SUV and I'm going to be stumping up 25k  GBP for it. That's 3 years old with 60 on the clock.

Fucking piss take here.

You must watch this POV video of a cement truck slamming into a car head-on

This POV video of a cement truck flying through an intersection straight at a car head-on while tipping over at high speed is like something straight out of a nightmare.

Thanks to Texas A&M professor Dr. Guan Zhu, who somehow survived this incident with only minor injuries we now what this would look like. (This is why we all need video cameras in our cars. Like Russia. For the many WTF videos it would produce. Okay, maybe not a good argument.)

I was thinking about the CTS v wagon last year, only wagon that's specked like the euro avant rs, but couldn't do it... brick-like American cars have the most clunky design language. Chunky and aggressive and hard edged is great, but the way it's executed is not so good.

Not my car (I have the Charger which I posted on page 14 of this thread), this is my parents'.

My dad picked up the Tesla a couple of months back and I finally got to drive it this weekend.  All I gotta say is WOW!!!  First of all, its really weird driving a car that's practically SILENT when its running, you really forget that its on when going around a neighborhood.

But Taking it on the highway and going 0-60 in 4 seconds is an incredible feeling!! Spent a nice few days with that bad boy!!

its seems like everybody and their mothers r driving new mustangs and chargers these days so its not that big a deal when u pull up to one at a light somewhere, now pulling next to a older VETTE is another story, everyone can appreciate that cause u dont see them around every 2 blocks. these days with the way car dealers r practiclly giving cars away so cheap i can go out and get a new mustang or charger but i rather drive my CORVETTE,its older but like i said its not something u see everyday so that alone makes me feel good. my buddy who gave me the car did a total overhaul on the motor as well as the paint job and interior.everythings pretty much new even though its 30yrs old,he kept everything original also cause theres no faster way to kill the beauty of a car like that than putting on different hoods, bumpers ect,it kills the whole car doing that

its seems like everybody and their mothers r driving new mustangs and chargers these days so its not that big a deal when u pull up to one at a light somewhere, now pulling next to a older VETTE is another story, everyone can appreciate that cause u dont see them around every 2 blocks. these days with the way car dealers r practiclly giving cars away so cheap i can go out and get a new mustang or charger but i rather drive my CORVETTE,its older but like i said its not something u see everyday so that alone makes me feel good. my buddy who gave me the car did a total overhaul on the motor as well as the paint job and interior.everythings pretty much new even though its 30yrs old,he kept everything original also cause theres no faster way to kill the beauty of a car like that than putting on different hoods, bumpers ect,it kills the whole car doing that

What year of corvette?  Details?  Also any pics?

Nice. First or one of the first years of that body style. Corvettes are great for getting attention. Fun to drive too. I'm hoping to get one in the next couple years.

I have a Corvette thread on the general topics board if you want to share pics or anything corvette related with getbig.  :)

Netflix Could Land Clarkson, Hammond & May, Call New Show 'House Of Cars': Video

http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1098288_netflix-could-land-clarkson-hammond-may-call-new-show-house-of-cars-video?fbfanpage

Last week, we speculated Jeremy Clarkson would land at Netflix—and now we have new info suggesting that's exactly what's going to happen.

The Mirror is reporting that he and co conspirators Richard Hammond and James May—along with former Top Gear producer Andy Wilman—are close to a deal with the streaming service to host their next endeavor. The name is said to be House of Cars, a play on the company's smash hit  House of Cards.

Obviously, landing the trio would be a huge win for Netflix.

And while there's no indication of what would be different about the new show, since Netflix isn't bound by broadcast standard, viewers might get to hear their frequent profanity in all its glorious detail, as opposed to the bleeps which punctuated their exchanges on the BBC.

Another potential upshot for fans if the deal goes through? If Netflix follows the formula it has with its other series—and there's no reason to expect it won't—the entire season will be available at once. Who wouldn't want to spend an entire weekend binge watching the three musketeers play with the planet's most desirable vehicles?

For now, Clarkson, Hammond, and May are busying themselves preparing to host their upcoming series of live dates, creatively titled Clarkson, Hammond and May Live!

With the BBC set to begin a new era of Top Gear with a fresh cast, and the knowledge that the old crew isn't quite done yet, it's a good time to be a fan of automotive enthusiast programming. Stay tuned for more info.

Currently I drive a 2005 corolla, but I am buying a Subaru Legacy B4 RSK with a manual transmission in the next few days. Deposit is already down on it. It's white and is absolutely MINT, love the Japanese imports you can't get the B4 RSK in the states and they're rare everywhere else. It's basically a legacy with the STI motor and tranny plus another turbo. I drove it and instantly loved it. Roomy and not cramped like the STI and VERY fast. Hits boost at 2500 rpm and pulls hard all the way to redline.

Not much of a tuner car but I'll dress it up and lower it, and throw a proper 3 inch catback exhaust and cold air intake on. That plus a tune and we'll be good for a little but over 300 horse power to all 4 wheels.

Oh, and did I mention is has only 65k kms on? thing is mint.

DeLorean, Reborn as an EV, to Debut at Pebble Beach This August

Not everyone is familiar with the DeLorean Motor Company name, but most people know the automaker's now legendary product: the DMC DeLorean. Although sold only for the 1981–1983 model years, the sports car's stainless steel body panels and gullwing doors made it—and continue to make it—a wholly unique and head-turning vehicle. No wonder director Robert Zemeckis chose the car to serve as the time machine in the Back to the Future movie franchise.

It was only a matter of time, then, until another entity brought the notorious vehicle back to life. DeLorean Motors Reimagined is doing just that. The company, whose largest shareholder is the DeLorean Motor Company that sells parts for and restores original DeLoreans, is set to reveal its new-age take on John Z. DeLorean's classic coupe at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in August.

The car DeLorean parks on the Concept Lawn at the concours will preview the company's low-volume production vehicle. Unlike the gasoline-powered DeLorean of yore, the new one will receive motivation from a battery-electric powertrain. Company officials are keeping mum on most of the car's key details at the moment, but chief executive officer Joost de Vries, who previously held positions at companies such as Volvo and Tesla, shared with Car and Driver that the reborn DeLorean is expected to offer at least 300 miles of driving range.

The company is fitting the car with a bespoke platform, too, though it intends to source the powertrain—such as electric motors and battery packs—it needs from external operations. As de Vries noted, "It makes no sense today for a company of our size to vertically integrate everything."

The finished product ought to crib styling cues from its forebear without recycling its looks. As chief marketing officer Troy Beetz said, the car the company plans to show off at Pebble Beach imagines what a modern DeLorean might look like "had it been around for the last 40 years."

Whether this results in a car that turns heads in the same way its predecessor did remains to be seen. Nevertheless, the company wants to create a vehicle that caters to people's emotions, with de Vries divulging that the forthcoming DeLorean sacrifices some aerodynamic efficiency in the name of style.

Despite its looks, the original DeLorean's performance was rather unimpressive. Don't expect that facet of the old car to carry over to the new one. Although de Vries was adamant about the DeLorean redux “not [being] a hypercar,” he did state that the company is engineering the vehicle to appeal to “people who want to drive.”

It's clear the folks spearheading this project possess the experience and passion to theoretically create a competitive high-end electric sports car. Still, it's neither easy nor inexpensive for a rather small organization to build and produce a new and profitable vehicle.

We certainly want to believe in the promise of a modern-day DeLorean, and we're excited to see what the company brings to Pebble in August. That said, we'll likely maintain a bit of healthy skepticism until we see the operation start delivering vehicles to customers.

2006 Ford Escape XLT
2011 Corvette Z06
2014 F150

All have their uses and are paid for in cash.

I will say the 2006 Escape is the best built vehicle i've owned in my life. 180k miles and has not had a single problem since i purchased it with 25k miles in 2009. It's a fucking tank.

My 2014 F150 is garbage, at a little over 100k miles i've already spent nearly $10k on repairs.

Id recommend this, just as long as you have a backup car and a mate with a flatbed truck.

Weighs nothing, misbehaves, scares the shit out of passengers, looks like a hairdressers car.

Perfect.

Wife's car, though...
