You make a good point. However, now that we know it is better not to eat a heavy meal before lifting, doing so can mess with your mind. Besides, when your a kid, you can get away with anything.
It's just nuts to me.. When we were young,no stimulants,no internet,and our gains came with hard work.. These days,people won't work out ,unless they have some type of stimulant,an hr.before.. Or they can't have a good session..? I take nothing at all..When it comes time to workout,I go as hard and heavy(and safe)as possible.. I push hard,but don't push to get hurt.. My sons ,the same.. Protein after my workouts,and that's that.. Nothing complicated,or scientific... So what if I don't look like a pro..? I don't want to be a Pro... I lift then hit the boxing club,and my wife loves my body... Does it get better,or easier..?
