GARDENDALE | A prominent Alabama pastor fatally shot his wife and wounded their 18-year-old daughter in their church-owned home before grabbing a kitchen knife and trying to stab himself to death, police said Friday.

The Rev. Terry Greer, 54, is being charged with murder in the slaying of 52-year-old Lisa Greer and attempted murder in the wounding of Suzanna Greer, a University of South Alabama student, according to police in Gardendale, a suburb about 10 miles north of Birmingham.

Greer is senior pastor at Gardendale-Mount Vernon United Methodist Church near Birmingham. Prominent in Methodist circles in the area, he leads a church with an average Sunday attendance of about 670.

After Greer opened fire on his wife and daughter Thursday, the teenager grabbed the gun and ran to a neighbor’s house to alert authorities, police said.

Atheism kills more than religion
Atheism & Spirituality
August 11, 2012
By: Charles Martin Cosgriff

The Independent, a British journal and website, has posted an article about research by one Frank Dikötter which has concluded that the genocide of Chinese peasants during Mao Zedong's Great Leap Forward of 1958-1962 was the worst atrocity of the last century. 45 million people were systematically killed in an attempt to bring the Chinese economy into the then 20th Century. Mr. Dikötter compared the mass murders to the gulag of Stalin and the Russian communists (as well as their other various purges and genocides) and the Holocaust driven by the Nazis. He even alludes to the Leap as on a scale of World War II, where around 55 million were killed.

Toss in things such as the Cambodian genocide of more recent times and even the 37 million killed during World War I and what have we? An awful lot of deaths at the hands of bloody revolutionaries, power mad tyrants, and even some through downright human stupidity. Yet other than the terrible human cost inflicted by the perpetrators of these heinous actions, what do each and every one of horrible events have in common?

The answer is as easy as it is obvious. Not one was committed by the hand or at the order of a religious sect, movement, or leader. They were all set in motion by wholly secular, atheistic forces. And we have not even delved into the many other yet lesser noted horrific initiatives which occurred during the same era.

Whenever someone tells you how bad religion is for the people, just remind them of the 1900's. Those years alone well display the fallacy of believing in a purely secular and atheistic worldview. God saves. Secularism kills; godless atheism kills as much as the atheist claims that religion does. It's really as simple as that.

Atheists: Satan, we love thee!!

HELSINKI, Finland (CNN) -- An 18-year-old authorities say shot eight people inside his high school in southern Finland, before turning the gun on himself, has died, police said.

An image from a video posted on YouTube by "Sturmgeist89."

more photos »  The shooting appeared to have been planned out in graphic videos posted on Internet file-sharing site YouTube.

At a news conference this afternoon, police confirmed the dead numbered two girls, five boys and the school's headmistress at Jokela High in Tuusula, a quiet town around 50 kilometers (30 miles) north of Helsinki.

Ten other people were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The shooter, whom police identified as Pekka Eric Auvinen, died at Toolo Hospital, authorities said. Police said he took his own life.

It was the first school shooting in Finland since 1989, when a 14-year-old student shot and killed two others in the coastal town of Rauma, the Finnish news agency STT reported.

Police said Auvinen is from Tuusula and who acted alone. He had no previous criminal record and had never threatened anyone from the school before, they added.

Auvinen published a manifesto online demanding war on the "weak-minded masses" and pledged to die for his cause.  Watch Auvinen fire weapons in video from his Web page »

YouTube appeared to have removed 89 videos linked to his account, many of them featuring Nazi imagery, shortly after the incident.

Finnish media reported someone posted a message two weeks ago on the Web site, warning of a bloodbath at the school.

A video posted earlier Wednesday, by "Sturmgeist89," was titled "Jokela High School Massacre - 11/7/2007." "Sturmgeist89" identified himself as Auvinen, and said he chose the name "Sturmgeist" because it means "storm spirit" in German.

The video showed a picture of the school, which then disintegrated to reveal two images of Auvinen against a red background, pointing a gun at the screen.

The clip is accompanied by the song "Stray Bullet" from rock band KMFDM. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, the students behind the 1999 Columbine High School massacre, also cited that group's lyrics.

Another short video clip, called "Just Testing My Gun," showed Auvinen loading and cocking a handgun. He fired and hit several pieces of fruit in a wooded area; the camera then showed a close-up of the destroyed fruit, and then a full-screen shot of him again. He waved at the camera and then walked out of view.

The site indicated that the youth appeared to be fascinated with killing. As well as video footage of the Columbine school shootings, it also included clips of the 1993 Waco siege in the United States, the 1995 sarin gas attack in Tokyo, and bombs falling on Baghdad during the 2003 invasion.

Many showed victims being wheeled away or people running for their lives. Throughout all of this, the single word "DIE" constantly flashed across the screen. Other video clips included Nazi-war-criminal footage.

In the rambling text posted on the site, Auvinen said that he is "a cynical existentialist, anti-human humanist, anti-social social-Darwinist, realistic idealist and god-like atheist.

"I am prepared to fight and die for my cause," he wrote. "I, as a natural selector, will eliminate all who I see unfit, disgraces of human race and failures of natural selection."

Poor atheists can't see that they are pawns of Satan. Fooled by Satan.

A psychopathic drifter who murdered a vicar and a retired teacher in their homes was jailed for life yesterday.

God-hating Stephen Farrow, 48, killed widow Betty Yates, 77, in her secluded riverside cottage and then six weeks later murdered the Reverend John Suddards at his vicarage.

Two days before killing Mrs Yates he sent a text message to a friend which said ‘the church will be the first to suffer’.

He then placed a picture of Jesus and a mirror on the floor by Mr Suddards’s body, and placed a Bible opened at the Letter of Jude on his chest.

Other items including gay pornography, party streamers and condoms were scattered around the corpse in an attempt to humiliate the clergyman, who Farrow had initially wanted to crucify.

There he left a note for the owners which was scribbled in red ink and pinned to the kitchen table with two knives. It read: ‘Be thankful you did not come back or we would have killed you Christian scum. I ****ing hate God.’

Dario - why not talk about the pastor who killed his wife and tried to kill his daughter instead of bringing up other things?

Where and when did God tell him to kill his wife and shoot his daughter? Answer that first and then I will talk about the "pastor".

I never said he did

I was responding to Blackens post

Surely you're familiar with at least a few of the modern incidents of people claiming god told them to kill

Surely you're aware of it in the bible too

If god tells you to kill your kid, and you're willing to go through with it, then look out heaven.

It's about to get a little more crowded up there!

Surely you need to word your posts a little bit better.
not the first time and won't be the last time Jesus's Dad tells someone to commit murder

Surely you need to realize true Christians don't go around claiming God told them to kill other people.

Surely you are aware of the difference between Old Testament and the New Testament, the difference between the Mosaic Law and the current dispensation of Grace, and between Jews and Christians.

Oh, and those innocent people that the Hebrews were at WAR with, were always at war with each other. Burning their infants in worship to Moloc, Baal and Astoret. Pure, innocent people those Canaanites.

Nevermind. I don't expect you to understand any of it. You are an atheist. You are spiritually dead and have no discernment at all.

It's going to be classic on that day when you are face to face with the Almighty. You won't recover.

Quelle surprise:

"A worship leader at Greer’s church was recently arrested on charges of soliciting a child for sex and traveling to have sex with a child"

That's some church.. (ah yes, forgot: "satan", "free will" "god has a plan" "they were sinners and deserved it" etc)
