Spoiler: I failed.
Today, I was inspired by cephissus recently completing a 35-ton workout for his 35th birthday, to try a 40-ton workout for my 40th birthday.
I was using North American tons = 2,000-lb.
I used the following exercises and weights:
225-lb squats.
225-lb deadlifts.
85-lb dumbbell [chest] press [85x2 = 170-lb].
60-lb dumbbell [shoulder] press [60x2 = 120-lb].
The goal was to do as many reps as possible, and as many sets as possible to get to 40 tons [80,000-lb].
Since cephissus said it took him around 3hr 20 minutes to do 35 tons at age 35, I figured I could get 40 tons at 40 somewhere in the 3-4-5 hour range...I just wasn't sure where.
I must say, I am somewhat disappointed.
I only managed to reach a 28,465-lb total weight lifted over the whole workout, which was 90 minutes long, minus about 10 minutes of set up time in there.
^ Just over 1/3 the weight I intended, although in fairness, also in 1/3 the time I allotted.
My training partner had to get home...so I figured, I would stop there, and finish my workout with him.
Having said this, I was TOTALLY GASSED.
I'll be honest - I expected a hard workout, but I didn't expect to be as tired as I was.
I was on track to get 35 tons around the same time cephissus did...and maybe I could have...but I really didn't feel that way.
I was legitimately wiped out, just doing basically five sets of ten of those four exercises at that weight.
Overall, I can't complain. This was ok, and I will give a 35-ton [70,000-lb] workout a try when my training partner turns 35 in the new year.
I highly recommend Getbiggers try this. It was a bit of a wake-up call for me, and showed me how much I declined with those 15 months off due to the C-19 gym closures. I still have substantial catching up to do.
I have 4.5 months until my first strength contest of 2022, and I should be ready...but I can sincerely say I'm not ready yet - and that's what I learned today.
