Title: Who hates their f'ing job?
Post by: Everhard on September 15, 2013, 07:36:49 PM
Who else here hates their damn job to the point it ruins all other aspects of your life. Even going to the gym has lost its meaning. I spend the entire time when I am in the gym stressing and worrying about having to go back to work the next day. Everyday going through the same mindless routine at work.

And yes I know..."any job is better than no job." "You can always look for another while you are working at the one you hate."

What part of your job is causing you so much stress?  Shitty boss?  Too many hours?  Bad work environment? Lazy co-workers?  Unreasonable deadlines?  All of the above?

Once you identify what sucks about your job, ask yourself "can I change it?"  The answer could be no, but if there's anything you can change to make things tolerable, do it.  Maybe it's finding an interesting project, maybe it's transferring somewhere else within the company.  Do what you can to make things better, then try to tolerate the rest.

Lack of job satisfaction is pretty common, but if you actually hate your job, to the point where it's negatively impacting your personal life, you may have no choice but to get out.

I put up with a horrible job for 2 years. I could only wish it was mindless - it was a low paying, very high stress type of job with a company with lots of internal politicing that I got caught in the middle of. It was destroying me. Every freeway ride to work was one of dread. Every weekend was nothing more than a countdown till I had to go back. That feeling where you wake up in the morning and have to get ready for another day of bullshit was just dreadful. Well, one day three months ago I just couldn't muster the strength to get ready for work.  ;D Damn it felt good. They kept calling my cellphone acting all concerned and desperate. It probably took them a while to find my replacement because even in this economy most people wouldn't deal with the shit I had to. People that I had previously trained would quit within a few days.

Now jobless. Gonna start looking for another job soon. Vacation was long enough to recharge the batteries.

My job sucks but I don't think I would say I hate it. Have been casually looking around and sending resumes but not with the same intensity as if I was unemployed.

Had a job i hated, worked it for 4 years but only the year and a half were hell after owners son was but in charge. Every friday was like a kid on christmas eve and every sunday night was like the feeling you got as a kid on last day of summer hols.
Eventually everyone got fucked off and left, somebody must have held a grudge as the place got torched one night.
Now am self employed and love it.

I started my current job 4 years ago. Loved it the first year, not bad the 2nd year, started burning out the 3rd year, now can't stand it. Tons of overtime due to a high turnover. 9 operations managers have passed through in 4 years. You are not allowed to make a mistake without mega shit blown in your face. The culture sucks, and very little employee appreciation is shown. I have new trainees ask all the time, " how do you work here?" Red tape galore. I guess I got used to it. The pay raise was significant from my old job. I am currently on paternity, and don't plan on returning. It would be just going through the motions. I can't even think about the place. My co-workers call me all the time, and I just don't want to hear about it.

I am stuck in a warehouse moving boxes of floor tiles basically all day long, putting data for them into a computer, storing shipping boxes. I went back to school with the crazy thought that a degree would open up doors to the good jobs. Boy was I wrong about that. And just like that Johnny, you've found a way to single handedly simplify the madness that the world subscribes to.

You enjoy the simple things in life like that of standing around painting, cutting and gluing down linoleum or even the bliss felt while cleaning out a tub and shit, while listening to some music.

You've managed to find peace in a world of chaos by simply being. :)

Me and my brother used to paint houses together when we were younger.

We always say things were so much simpler then.  Go to work, bust your ass doing something tangible.. and get paid.

And when you're done you say "I did that"...and had fun doing it.

That's exactly where I am going in thought.

Johnny, unlike the rest of us, is always in that place were things are simpler. He never has to reminisce about the simpler times, because he instead always finds himself in the simplest of times.

What I see in Johnny is longevity. A man that is oblivious to the modern day stresses that place the vast majority of us in a grave much sooner than deserved.

In simpler terms, Johnny gets it..... Divorce the value from all things in your world and you, in turn, learn the true value of oneself.

I've always said Johnny was onto something.

In today's world, when we first start that new job, we like it. Then, we start to realize the bs that comes with job. The typical politicking, brown nosing, cut backs, lies, deceit, etc. Then we start to get disillusioned, and also have a belief in an inflated self worth. We see what goes on in social media---everybody smiling and happy, taking vacations, going to expensive restaurants. We see the music vids and the celebs driving big cars, having big houses---and we believe we are entitled to such. In short, our material possessions don't equal up to the work we put in, and we believe we deserve more. Inflation is a bitch as well. Ultimately, we become less happy and more depressed. And so, we hate our jobs, and we seek another. We leave that job for a "better one". The ironic thing, is our replacement at the old job, thinks the same way we did when we first had that job, "this job is better than the last one".

$11/hr isn't worth turning up for.  If you can get off your butt and make something happen, surely your time will better spent doing that.  The fact that you haven't suggests that you're confused about what you are capable of doing and what you want to do.  We can't tell you that so give it some thought, grab your balls, and proceed.  Leave on good terms but gtfo of there.

I've only ever had one job that I really hated, but fuck was it a horrible experience. To think I turned down a pretty good offer from someone else to take it...

I was the 9th person to leave in the first 4 months, and despite leaving with practically nothing in my bank account, it was the happiest day of the year for me. Before that, I could feel myself slipping into survival mode - just switching off emotionally, not wanting anything to do with anyone. I was working 6 days a week and every Sunday was poison because I knew it'd start again when i woke up.

Actually, come to think of it, it's probably about 9 years ago this week that I walked out of the place. Needless to say, life has been much happier since then.

Ignore this person.  He's totally full of shit.  10 years of backburnered projects that will make him a guaranteed millionaire, at some point, once he gets around to them, someday, but not this weekend because he agreed to go do the job that someone wants done. Just like always.

If he could find his balls he couldn't figure out how to grab them if you drew him a fucking diagram.

I dont hate my job(s), i hate the people i have to work with and often hate the job and ruin it all for the others, because they re frustrated over their shitty lives. They bring their problems at the workplace and nobody cares. All jobs are shitty when you re forced to deal with shitty personalities. Focus on the job, dont start shit, last longer than others, and the boss will like you. If required, destroy people who want to make you leave , defend, keep your place and with time eventually you ll rise in the ladder.

work?

prefer just chillin'n relaxing  8)
you cant always relax, or you lose the taste of life. To enjoy rest, you need to work. Now there s working too much, and not working enough, as usual there s a middle ground, balance to find. Doing nothing, feeling useless, not producing, creating shit gets old real quick after a while.

On the Phenomenon of Bullshit Jobs

"(...)Huge swathes of people, in Europe and North America in particular, spend their entire working lives performing tasks they secretly believe do not really need to be performed. The moral and spiritual damage that comes from this situation is profound. It is a scar across our collective soul. Yet virtually no one talks about it.(...)"

"(...)It’s as if someone were out there making up pointless jobs just for the sake of keeping us all working(...)"

etc-etc.
A long, but good read:

good post, so true, people who relax too much are shameful.
the best is to do something you enjoy and that really fits your view of the world. It also takes time to know what you really, really want. You have to manage your family members goals too. But most of the time to reach that point, you first need to take shit doing jobs for others until you have enough to develop your own project. The less I care about my job while doing it the best i can-cause that's just the way i am- the more the boss wants me to stay and even second him. It's all about focusing on the tasks and ignoring others. Doing so you get better , but it is also required to not put too much thoughts, involvement in it either. Hence the need to have fun doing something diff. on the side.

Again, no task, job, is shitty, as long as you dont have other people pissing you off. It's always because of someone else that we get sick of the job, but the job itself is never the problem when you really think about it. Best evidence for that is that it gets even better when you re doing it with someone who enjoys it as much as you do.

It is the mindless routine that you perform every single day that just kills your spirit. Anyone that has worked in a factory knows what I am talking about. Basically standing in the same spot for eight hours a day pushing a button on a machine.

You think to yourself "is this really all I am made for in my life." Damn depressing. Okay on a serious note, Miley Cyrus posted a new picture of her feet.

hate my job, fucking hate it. Twist of events in my life recently though  I was at a park playing baseball across the street with some buddies and hit a ball close to 500 feet. when A d1 baseball coach  saw it, and approached me. He said talent wise I'm "possessed" ...granted that is from ped use but who cares. He  Invited me a tryout with the team, I went to hit a few balls last night and it was pretty frustrating for me. I felt choppy....got so pissed off i broke my bat lol, haven't called him back.

500 feet?

the fence was 400 feet in center and I hit a  car in the parking lot way behind it...our guess was between 450 and 500 feet. this was just a basic guy throwing to me though, its going to be  a lot different in a live game with a guy throwing sliders, curves etc.  We  know that Athletic wise,  I have the strength, size, and speed...to be one of the biggest fastest guys in the game. I ran the 60  in 6.4 at a bodyweight of 225 pounds.  that's  retarted dude.  you can count the guys in the MLB who can do that on two hands.

what we dont know is how I am going to hit high caliber pitching...my problem is my eyesight, is not as sharp as it needs to be to compete at the highest level in college baseball. the average major league baseball player has approximately 20/15 vision, 20/20 is "perfect"....I hate wearing fucking contacts dirt always gets in them especially when the wind is blowing, we are looking into Lasix for me.

there s something funny about a job. Everyone hate their job, everyone pretend to like people at work, but we all hate each others but pretend we dont. We all pretend we love to contribute to society, when in fact we only care about our paycheck and could care less about "the rest of mankind" or "contributing" to anything else but our bank account. Most people only do the strict minimum to keep their jobs. We are definitely funny animals.

today my direct supervisor (the manlet twink who wanted to take my chair) got lambasted by the boss

he was so helpless and near the point of tears

i pretended not to hear anything and worked on with total dedication

but inside i was enjoying his sorrows

after the whole thing he was looking for a shoulder to cry on, moaning to a lot of people about it

me i told him

"suffering is what you must do....it is what we all must do" and turned around to my computer screen again

he left home early even tho it was reallly busy, like 2 hrs early

he looked confused and lost in the world, and came over to me and my direct colleague and said without any energy or attitude "good job guys....yeah it was not a bad day...keep it up...."

my satisfaction was perverse

I have not read all of this yet, but  many times I suggest the military as a great job.

If you don't like combat situations, you can always join the Air Force and work in a tech field. One friend of mine flies drones over foreign areas while sitting here in the states. You can do that too!

Others jump from high altitudes during nite-time hours because they love the adrenalin flow.  You can do that too!

You have lots of choices .. A Navy SEAL Team member / An Army Ranger / A USMC reconn dude / An AF Tech / A corpsman  and all those billets in between.

And while you're in, everything is free. Free room / Free board / Free medical / Free dental / Free travel / Free bullets / Free band-adesLots more free stuff.

And when you're out , you have the VA where you don't have to get involved with Obama Care and thereby save lots of money cause it's all free too!

If just one GetBigger joins up .... this post has been a success.

Send me a postcard of thanks from Afghanistan.

well, we fired our cleaning crew, so now before closing I get to clean toilets and wipe down mirrors at the gym...... so, yea, I hate that shit.

oh, and today my 76 yr old client... old man who doesn't eat, and his only time he's out of bed during the day is when he comes to the gym (with a belly full of metformin, blood pressure meds, ect, and ZERO food or water in his stomach)..... anyways, he comes back..... I HATE training that guy. each time driving to the gym I think "is today the day he dies in the the gym"... I've had to call paramedics twice on this fool. Luckily each time an EMT ex-client of mine was there to take over... this fucker will pass out, completely unresponsive, weak pulse, and stops breathing before his pace-maker (which btw, he didn't mention in his medical history... or his 3 previous strokes) kicks in.

so, for 30 mins each Tuesday and Thursday, I hate my fucking job. lol

BTW the part of the factory i work in is closing in 3 weeks.

Yeah its happening everywhere and the middle class is quickly disappearing.

Sorry to hear about the plant closing down...

it s not the whole plant just a part of it, 1 quarter of employees, about 12 people. 3 or 4  will be "reconverted" most , too old will have to find something else, one already jumped ship. Funny how we adapt to places where we spent time, even harsch times, as long as the amount of good times outnumber the hard ones.

If I could do it all over again, I would have joined the military.

I am tired of killing myself at my job. I am only 32, but my body is worn down like an NFL running back. I see all these "office" jobs in t.v. and movies, and wonder where they exist?

I just want to sit in an office and barely move all day.

I worked in an office for 5 years , as long  as you re not alone , there are several people in it, and you re not the boss or his close  ally, it s as hellish as any other job.

Man's curse, is that he is never happy. I am guilty of this as well. I have a good life. Love my family, pay my bills, and live well.

Maybe it is the repetition? Maybe it is my outlook? Either way, it is something that I control.

i will be, i am in that part of the plant that's closing. I could ask to be moved  to the part that's still open -but who knows for how long- being still young and "interesting" to the managing staff and having developed good ties with my direct superior, but i would have to take a pay cut and work at night, have to create and defend my place in a new team... To be honest I dont give much of a fuck at the moment, have no precise idea of what i ll do next. I'm kind of stun right now, not too stressed cause house is paid for but still we ll have to develop a new plan with the wife.

again it depends of your position in the hierarchy first and foremost. If you re the boss, working behidn a desk or in a plant is waaay less stressful than being the repleacable , expendable , random slave having to fight hierarchy AND his colleagues daily to insure his survival.

That's easier said than done.

Once you reach a certain age and certain income level there aren't a ton of options. And if you have commitments it's hard to walk away and start over.

Combine it for a while, building your own business takes time..

i was pretty close to the boss, fact is when you know you re untouchable, all you have to do is focus on your job and it's a lot easier that way. People down below know you re the one who say nice or bad shit about you to the managing staff / HR.

oh I can imagine it happens but on a much smaller scale compared to places like brazil, mexico, etc. Random business and wealthy people get kidnapped for ransoms...

My point was that when poverty rises it creates an unsafe/high crime environments to live in. You can buy your home far away from the poor crime infested areas but you will have some sort of interaction with them on a day to day basis i.e getting to and from work, school, etc.

what im seeing here in french canada is old boomers dying rapidly and third worlders buying their houses. The cream of the crop third worlders, sometimes whole families or several families buy themselves a house and voila, you have africans coming straight out of africa in a nice upper middle class neighborhood. Most are atholic christians but dont integrate, assimilate with the whiteys, they stick with their owns, have their owns churchs. We also have tons of south americans, colmobians etc doing the same. Old people die, they didnt have many kids, they re replaced by third worlders, as simple as that. That s why the government imports tons of immigrants in canada in the first place.

we are considering moving in the country with wife, sell our current suburb house to buy a little farm with lots of land and stick with that for the remaining of our lives. She ll keep going to town for her part time job and ill take care of farmland. We just see no point living in big towns or cities anymore. we have seen pretty much everything there is to see and know about them. Staying there is  just asking for more useless pointless stress.

i moved from france to canada, because in france and everywhere else in europe, black africans and muslims from north africa are doing exactly the same. Same shit is going on everywhere now. I guess it's the same in the US but with mostly mexicans and other south american breeds. It s a global trend; south is replacing north. Atheist whiteys are disapearing and getting replaced by chritsian third worlders who outbreed them-the irony being our own white ancestors evangelized them- asians or muslims.

you came to the wrong place if you were looking to get away from that. canadian television constantly pushes the muslim lifestyle on people as to say 'get used to it' while white atheists die off and their children move to bigger cites and go west for more opportunities ect. i find when i lived florida im surrounded by latinos but to me they are more normal than a burka walking past me in small town quebec. its all about what you're used to.

here we could buy a house and land , in france we could only have  afforded an appartment in a shitty low social class overcrowded muslim ridden city. From that perspective, we are in the right place. And those who stayed in france told and keep telling us so. But yeah, i can see them coming in canada and doing the exact same crap all over again, helped by the same navie, self detructive/hating bleeding heart hipsters who have no clue what they re doing, but we were aware of it before we even applied for immigration. There s a reason we didnt settle in montreal for example.  We have met muslims who are so westernized they re not muslims anymore tho and just want to live a quiet life just like us. They re just... 1 out of 100. The exception that confirms the rule.

well, that's just the way it is. Most of these third world trash as you call them have strong families and still beleive in the bible and the "multiply and get your revenge against the oppressor" part of it while atheist white families are imploding. btw giuseppe, everything uberman has said about these third world immigrants (sticking together, strong families and religion) applies to your people too. Don't know where you live but in Canada the wops were treated as third class citizens when they migrated. I grew up in an italian neighborhood and none of them consider themselves "white". In fact they made fun of them and call them "munjie cakes" lol.
