I Manage a Gym ... I don't mind the occasional grunt ... we allow that ... but when you got guys coming in Screaming their Heads off ... well, we don't allow that.

A bit of grunting is fine. Anyone who lifts heavy or trains with any intensity will make some noise.
But, i can understand that people may get intimidated or put off by a bunch of big blokes screaming at the weights. As long as it isn't over the top, then it should be allowed.
No doubt about it...

Depends what you mean by grunting? If you are completely silent during your whole workout then your probably only there to date men.

When I squat (especially 20 rep squats) I have to let out a shout on the last 5-6 reps or the weight ain't going up pure and simple. Luckily at my gym the managers are BB's so they couldn't give a ****

But I def agree with the screaming at eachother for the whole workout, that's just gay plain and simple and puts other people off the gym

it's like winston churchill always said. a dog looks up to man, a cat looks down on us, give me a pig every time they look you in the eye like an equal. oink. but as far as grunting isn't it a little hilarious watching some guy grunting and screaming benching a massive 135 lbs. yeah buddy , just a peanut.

people who dont scream should not be allowed in the gym.

in ricky bruch documentary he screams, throws weights around and accidentely hit the lamp in the ceiling that falls down on him almost hitting him in the head, he takes a plate or if it's a dumbbell and throws it in anger and leaves

this is how a gym should be like

Going to the gym and not grunting is like having sex and not getting off.

The two just go hand-in-hand.

there's one little bitch drama queen attention whore in my gym who does that.....  a buck 30 midget, wears three t-shirts, belted all the time, elbow supports on all the time, all movements are either quarter or half reps.....  i would fuccking throw the fucck out of the gym, unfortunately, this is a college gym so there's no real "manager" .....

my gym its not 'hardcore' at all, but it used to be...even with the more 'fitness' look now, at least grunting and screaming its not a problem there...its common to see two people having a chat when the two of them are in oposite sides of the gym LOL...its a pain in the ass sometimes, but it keeps the gym in good fun all the times
yesterday some big soccer teams played here, it was so much scream while i was trainning i could barely hear my grunts, LOL

i like to do my grunting between sets, so i can concentrate on my reps during my set.

There should be a silent rule allowing grunting with certain weights. (ie Ronnie squating 700 pounds=loud grunts permitted)

Grunting in a gym is perfectly normal. Its the out right yelling that is ridiculous. Anyone that moves some good weight is bound to let out a little grunt here and there. Gyms that are anal about this should be avoided all together by bbdr's that train on the more serious side.

Grunting in the gym is okay if you're pinching out a loaf on the toilet.

Yelling decreases intra-abdominal pressures, resulting in less force production capabilities through a variety of movements.
The valsalva maneuver has been shown time and time again to improve strength.

So, grunting reduces your strength.  This is probably the reason most of the grunters at the gym are so weak.

grunting is fine

but theres this little 170lb asian tit who deadlifts 225 and screams off the top of his lungs...the trainers even laugh at this turd sniffer

he always ends his workout by going to the calve raise machine, maxes it out..and then jumps on the thing like its a pogo stick.  I swear i hope that assgoblin crushes his spine one day

I had one of these grunting 1/2 rep warriors make a comment about me biting my lip during hard reps and looking intense during a few hard reps, as if I was the asshole.   ::)
