Louie was fantastic - very big and looked great next to Arnold. It was a close competition but Arnold was the sound winner. Better calves, arguably better back, better chest and arms and better presentation overall.

Lou was only 22 years old there too. He was born in November, 1951 so that was before his 23rd birthday. He was the youngest IFBB Mr. Universe winner when he won the 1973 Mr. Universe at 21 years old.

Not really,Harold Poole was the youngest at 19 in 1963.

That was the way it was back then. The first guy I can recall trying to go year 'round with AAS was Robbie Robinson. It was a foolish mistake as it caught up with him in the form of an enlarged heart (completely congenital, LOL!). The guys that I met of the 60s and 70s were for the most part honest about their use of steroids.

I never really asked them how much as that was their business but they didn't hide it behind talk of being "genetic marvels". Well, in any Weider magazine, Uncle Schmoe would do that for them but when I spoke with some of them in the gym they just laughed that off and admitted using steroids. No one really knew what would/could happen long term and therefor used them in a far more cautious manner than the idiots of the past few decades.
