Federov - huge fucking Ruski that was destroyed by tears before he even got off the show room floor?
Wolf - great white hope barely wider than Heath?
Gustavo Badell - took second place to Ronnie, surprised everyone than never duplicated his success..
Can't think of more
-
Pheel Heath.

Pheel Heath.
Phil Heath finally killed what little interest I had in "big ebony mountains of muscle and huge A r y a n bastards in thongs pageants". The 'man' is a whiny bitch and probably a closet fag - and doesn't come close to the guys that preceded him. Ronnie Coleman set a new standard and had funny catch phrases that could be talked about etc,
Jay had a distinctness too. Dexter, Badell, Marks, et al... Much more interesting than Phil Heath and the fruit fucker.

Agreed.
I'd like to slap him in the face, maybe pour a drink on his head.

I got 16 or 17 magazines covers but then never even won my IFBB Pro card. I'd say me.

Love to come over to your house one day and see your magazines
-
When comparing Heath to Ronnie well, you just can't. Ronnie was light years ahead of Cheath.

:D Well let me bake up some biscuits, get a fresh 10cc vial of Cypianate, dust off those magazine covers and I'll send you an Evite.

No offense, but Federov aside, your examples are really stupid.
Badell was top 3 twice and beat Ronny in the challenge round. Won a couple other shows and had additional top 6 and top 10 Olympia finishes.
Wolf barely wider than Heath? What the fuck are you smoking. One of, if not the widest bodybuilder ever. Runner up at the Arnold twice top 3 at the O and climbing.
Now go away.

There are a lot worse

King Khan.

Kovacs.

Ronnie Coleman. Dude looked great for a few years but does not deserve half the Olympia titles he has. He quickly mutated into a disgusting misshapen mess.

He mutated after he lost...
He deserved every one he won. Nobody could take him down, in the end, he beat himself.
-
Kovacs.
defo
the amount of hype muscletech and the mags put on him
he was going to be the first man on stage at 350lbs ripped ::)

Dennis Wolf is wide at the shoulders, however he has a very strange lanky look.
His waste is too narrow and his overall physique doesn't convey power to me.
It looks like a young physique - there is a lack of density.
I'm not a fan of it and never got the hype.
Maybe people liked it because he was taller than 5'9"
Where is Badell now? We still here that Dexter is relevant, and Badell is not even on anyone's radar today.

Lunch Trey Brewer
Big down hill Dan

Agree mostly,
However Palumbo can't be overrated because I'm pretty sure he never earned pro status in the first place.
He was never rated.

Yes, bodybuilding is subjective,
And personally I don't find the hyper narrow physiques of some of the 'athletes' like Darrem Charles to be Appealing. In my opinion there is such thing as a waist that is too narrow - and the point at which it is too narrow is when the overall body looks structurally weak.
Wolf falls into this category IMO -
And judging by the number of Sandows won by Coleman -
The judges share my aesthetic criteria to some degree.
-
I think Dorian Yates was, he was top notch in some Olympia wins, but some years he looked horrendous with torn arms and other competitors delivered top notch physiques yet got robbed, to name a few El Sonbaty, Ray, Levrone, Wheeler.

You're right, bodybuilding is a subjective sport, which makes it an interesting topic to discuss.
I was just surprised by your vision about waists being too small, since I hear more people complain about wide waists.
If I were Dennis, then I would feel honored about your opinion :D (no pun)

I could see the argumement for this guy, but not Dennis Wolf

That's the problem with bodybuilding - there is no established criteria of what makes a winning physique.
To my knowledge the IFBB hasn't established standards anyway - though I could be wrong.
If the waist is blocky to the point of being ugly and un-bodybuilder like - it should be penalized. If it is narrow to the point that it doesn't project power and stability it should also be penalized IMO.
Due to the lack of criteria, most Bodybuilders just get bigger and bigger until they go full on Palumbo, compete a few more years until their receptors stop responding, then retire penniless.
It has no appeal anymore except to a fringe.

Nobody penalizes a narrow waist except for guys with shitty genetics like YOU probably have.
Dumb ass ::)

I said it was my opinion fuck face, by virtue of it being my opinion - your claim that 'nobody penalizes a small waist" is already proven wrong. So who is the dumbass, dumbass?
A man with a moderate waist has more core strength and power. A man with a tiny twink waist was never meant to hold a tremendous amount of muscle and thus isn't a good example of an ideal bodybuilder in my opinion. A man with a very large waist cannot be aesthetic either. These are my opinions.
This is what I would call ideal proportions (except biceps)

ah. missed it.
I was keeping my eyes above his waist.
weird.

he had great fdb for having'avg arms'as some say, there are guys with great arms and not so good fdb due to lack of width/thickness lats /flare/and or waist is shitty
-
I agree: A waist can be too narrow and slim.
A truly strong man must display a reasonably thick waist. A bodybuilder should not have a distended gut, but if it's a wasp waist, it makes the competitor look weak and frail, as said.

IFBB judge outed.

They have a rule book...that none of us have seen.
Apparently it's written on magical paper, because the rules constantly change.

Greg Kovacs by far.
Muscle Tech marketing build around him.

Lunch Trey Brewer
Big down hill Dan

Palumbo

Chris Cook
Good list, but Palumbo did pretty good as an amatuer before he lost the ball at the goal line.
I think he would have won his pro card if the competition at the time wasn`t as tough as it was.
Sadly enough, once "Palumboism" set in,he was done.
-
Matt Duvall.
-
Richard jones, kovacs, lunch trey, khan....these guys had/have received so much hype but done next to nothing on the stage.
-
also a lot of the old muscletech athletes and fedorov....
-
jp fux
the guy from finland.. hell, I forget his name. big white dude with the pony tail/rat tail.
fedrov
... shit, I dunno.
mostly guys who came on big and burned out. who cares. it happens all the time. happens to guys who turn pro as well as guys who just do local NPC shows.

every time this thread comes up i think of shawn ray
it was ridiculous for him to ever place above flex, cormier, or Mr. Levrone
i can't believe anybody thinks he should've been Mr. Olympia

I agree.
He was a shrimp.
I don't think Doz was overrated necessarily - he is symbolic of the new era after Haney. I do think Doz overstayed his welcome and was arguably handed some 'gifts'.
-
Yeah...third place at the NOC...
Then?
Zero....he was even on covers being hyped as future Mr.O
-
the real answer is Vic Richards obviously
-
Federov no contest
I'd say richard jones but he looked perfect so i stand by the hype 8)
-
King Kamali comes to mind.
-
the guy from finland.. hell, I forget his name. big white dude with the pony tail/rat tail.
Marko Savolainen?
He competed only a few times but looked great around 97-98.. Then he went into permabulk mode and we all know the rest.

His legs were unreal, though. He lived up to the hype. He just didn't place well or ever become relevant or profitable.

original'hype'
-
Paco Batista
I don't think there was ever 'hype' around Paco, only controversy.
he came out of nowhere with big crazy hard and separated legs, a long torso, strange chest that was flat with very obvious gyno, and delts that were wayyyyyy over swollen with oil.
there was never hype.. just everybody thinking 'what.. the.. fuck.. is.. that?'
guys like Jp fux, Marko,Fedrov, hell, even Markus Ruhl were like the Great White Hype's... guys that were supposed to pick up where dorian left off.

Yeah, basically all inferior to Ronnie Coleman and (at the time) Jay Cutler, therefore unable to dethrone either one and carry over from Dorian. No surprise about their lack of impact in the sport and quit exits.

Agreed, Super nice guy may he R.I.P but they hyped the living crap out of him !! There wasn't a magazine in the 90's you couldn't pick up without some sort of "Kovacs" update or sighting lol

his streak of top 5 O finishes is overrated too considering that was typically the only show he did most years

dont agree with ypu much, but I partially agree here. Everyone alwaus goes on about how aesthetic ray was, when really, he was just a mini mass monster, quads to big, narrow lats,... he had a laundry list of structural issues.
-
Zero....he was even on covers being hyped as future Mr.O
That was just to sell magazines...I think he could have won an Arnold or two.
I hink he is supposed to make a comeback this year.

Less stable than on an Etch-a-Sketch held by Michael J. Fox.

RJ was suppose to compete in this yrs Arnold, he stated this at the O...
Most likely never coming back
