Title: Is there any bigger circle jerk than Audiophiles
Post by: Army of One on July 02, 2014, 07:54:03 AM
Idiots spending hundreds on speaker cable, thousands on amps and tens of thousands on speakers ,claiming to experience some earth shattering sound that no other fucker can tell the difference from their 10 dollar speaker wire, 400 dollar amp, and 500 dollar speakers.Phrases like amazing soundstage, subtle midrange, earth shaking bass and tight treble make me want to strangle them.It may actually be a gayer hobby than bodybuilding.

Truth. I watched a friend of mine spend $500 for 10 feet of speaker wire and then tell me all about how great it is. Fucking homo.

Anyone that describes themselves as an "audiophile" is a massive cunt and probably a child toucher too.

Fuck off its your fault if you are so retarded that you cant tell the difference between low quality and high quality sounds, when you are listen to music or watching a movie you should be able to hear every single sound clearly and you  cant do that on low price speakers.

I have noticed that this disease seems to mostly or entirely infect males.  Women don't go for this kind of insanity.

I've you've never heard expensive, professional grade audio equipment live I can assure you it's light years beyond the best of the Magnolia room at Best Buy.

I've known guys that lived in dumpy apartments who didn't own plates, furniture or that many changes of clothes, but man did they have nice A/V equipment.

You can't hear anything because of all the dried sperm in your ears, you buttriding dickslugging goo burper.  Your posts suck so fucking bad you're not even worth owning anymore.  Almost everything you type is fucking retarded, no matter which user behind your shared/purchased gimmick is posting.

If you were James Bond your code number would be 00Semen.

Ditto, on your last paragraph.  And, man are they nuts.  The OP is right.  "Audiophile" speaker wire from Monster at $100 or more a set?  And that is at the low end of what you can waste your money on.  Sure, up to a point, a cheap system gets trounced by a more expensive one, but there is a limit to the differences a human ear can detect, and that limit is way below, orders of magnitude below, what you can spend on this junk.

Bet 99% of people couldn't tell the difference between a $500 system and a $5000 system. If you have the cash to burn it's your choice but as Funk and MOS said spending disproportionate amounts on it that you can't afford is retarded.

Are these people music fans, or do they just want to hear a cricket fart during the film? I get the first guy, to an extent, but the second guy is just silly.

Some points on Stereo systems:

Speaker wire: 14-16 awg is all you need and should not cost more than 10-20 dollars for 50 to 100 feet.  Radio Shack speaker wire is fine.

Bi and tri-amping:  This can be worthwhile. The concept is that a power amplifier creates the most distortion when it is amplifying the highest and lowest frequencies at the same time.  So you insert in the chain between the pre amplifier and the power amplifier an "active crossover" which splits off the lows and sends it to it's own separate power amplifier.  This is "Bi-amping" .  If you also do it for the mid-range as well, it's called "Tri-amping." Where the low, mid range, and high frequencies each have their own power amplifiers.
Some will argue that seems like overdoing it. You should consider that power amplifiers are now available as an integrated circuit the size of a human hand.

100 watts

This segues into.....

Sub-woofers: The wavelengths of sounds that the woofers handle are so long that most people cannot stereophonically "locate" them.  This is due to the fact that compared with the distance between your ears the long wavelengths have insufficient timing differences for most to locate the sound image.  So the rationale is to have the active crossover "sum" the lows from the left and right sides into one signal, send them into one power amplifier, and rather than have two woofers, have one really big one.

The next two are always good to make people angry.

Phonograph records versus CD:
I should preface this with the fact I have turntables, tape recorders(open reel and cassette) at home.  I consider phonograph records like fine books.  Wonderful packages to look at, and it is fun to watch a record player work.  It is the same with tapes.

But at no time do I delude myself into saying LPs and Tapes are better than CDs.  No matter how you show the mathematics of the analogue to digital process, or the result of lab tests, there are imbeciles (nice imbeciles, but imbeciles nonetheless) who will argue that LPs are superior to CDs.

Vacuum tubes (valves) versus solid state:
I can repair tube circuits.  In high school shop I built (from scratch, not a kit) an FM stereo system out of vacuum tubes. I have restored old systems.
Solid state is better than tubes.

The best speakers:
Klipschorns without question...they must however, to work properly, be put solidly in the corners of a room.

Klipschorns!! I can’t afford them.
