I've stayed at the Hyatt and where the competitors stayed too but one year I stayed at little condo with another couple and that was nice. It was about a 20 minute drive. The last time I went I stayed at the Hyatt and didn't go to the expo. When I saw how crowded I said fuck it.

I wonder how big procent of the visitors have dieted hard for arnold classic, not to compete but for going to the expo. I hate those kind of people one guy even had "progresspics for the Arnold classic" on this instagram lol.. Fruitdicks

Now way will you get a room unless you book the year before and that's at the surrounding hotels. You can forget getting one at the Hyatt. Taxi cab drivers love the AC. The whole town makes a fuck ton of money that weekend.

Not true. I went to the Arnold last year. They had an estimated 200,000 pass through the Expo. Every hotel room in the city of Columbus, and surrounding areas was sold out. I can personally vouch that there were a LOT of people at the Expo; it was jammed. The contest finals was nearly sold out and it must have seated 3-4,000 people. I was fortunate that I made my hotel reservation a couple of months in advance, but still, my hotel was a mile and a half away. Fortunately, and surprisingly, there were free shuttle buses that ran from each hotel to the Convention Center.
And yes, the whole town makes a fuck ton of money off the Arnold. I would safely bet it is the most prosperous weekend in Columbus of the entire year.

Maybe it's different today? I have generally drove to the event and after going to pre judging and the expo would drive back home.
10 years ago you had to make reservations at least a month in advance.
It's not so much the bodybuilding/fitness expo it's all the other events. Kids and adults dance competitions, MMA, jujitsu tournaments, arm wrestling, etc.... there is literally 50 different events a day. I think one time there was a tennis tournament or something as well.
Its a sea of people. The promoter (Arnold?) was smart enough to make bodybuilding a side attraction to all of the other crap.

Just dying a slow and agonizing death. But in the real world, which few here seem to venture out
away from the basement and keyboard, it's bigger and more prosperous than ever. Prize money
keeps going up, fan base increasing, more competitors from all the different classes than ever
before. Just like the Olympia, you ain't getting in unless you plan far ahead of time and spend
some serious ching.

Hm, true. I suppose what the naysayers mean is that bodybuilding itself is a smaller part of the total pie chart, with all the new categories for competitors.
But as someone who has been to something like 17 bodybuilding expos, you are absolutely right - the expos are bigger than ever before. The prize money is higher than ever before. Everything is up. So you do have a good point. And you are right that some of those who don't go to expos don't notice that.
Bodybuilding magazines may be on their last days - however few are even left - but that can be said for the entire magazine industry.

The competitors stay at the Hilton now. I still stay here at the Hyatt, as a lot of the Supplement Representatives are at.

Do you realize that the Arnold Sports Festival is the largest sports weekend anywhere. 78 events, including axe throwing this year. 22,000 competitors. Yes, 22 thousand. 200,000+ audience. The Convention Center is just one part of it, they have other areas now in Columbus. Jam packed. Very hard to get a room anywhere near the convention center.

Chad Nicholls said that Dexter's skin was showing signs of age at the 2017 Mr. Olympia. I personally didn't notice that at all from the pictures I saw, but judging from this closeup, you can sort of see maybe a thing film of "age" on Dexter's delts.
So his skin may have FINALLY begun aging in 2017, and I suppose Chad was there in person and seeing things that wouldn't have been noticeable in photos. At least, the photos that were not closeups like that one.
Even in this closeup, I would say Dexter's skin is hardly a problem. And Dexter always had a bit of stomach distention.
Why isn't Dexter aging yet? ??? And when will he start? ??? Or are we just now finally seeing this happen?
