The formidable FBI Director James Comey found out he had been fired through a television report. His new memoir seems preachy, whiny and self-justifying — and includes petty, mean-girl hits on Trump. Former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, the former Exxon executive who had already himself been marginalized and diminished, was reportedly on the toilet when he found out he’d been cashiered.
These indignities were the crass work of an uncouth man. But voters eschewed elegance because, they calculated, a blunt and even predatory individual is what the country needed at this moment. A man who, Kim, Xi, Khamenei and Putin will all suspect, might just be brutal and dark enough to stand his ground against them and counter their own ruthless agendas.

yes. and no military exercises took place until it finished. also SK hugely scaled back the annual US/SK military simulations. they lasted half the usual time and the US was greatly restricted in what military hardware it was able to display.

North Korea is tricky. That's an understatement. Those that were in the know on Kim gave the summit a small percentage chance of happening due to his and his fathers past actions. While many people were blowing up baloons and talking about a Nobel Prize for Trump, most were very cautious to get too excited about it because 2 of the 3 main participants are nutcases. But mostly because North Korea having spent decades under sanctions spending billions on creating a nuclear program, were unlikely to simply agree to dismantle and give it up no matter what was offered. It was more likely a ploy to get some relief and they would drag their feet and play us if they could. I don't blame Trump at all for making the attempt. He would have been remiss not to try. And maybe eventually they will get to the table but I have bigly doubts that Trump can outplay North Korea in a chess match. He has too many buttons that are easily pushed.

Like Howard said, no other President has really made a dent so trying something unorthodox wasn't a horrible idea. I don't know how successful it can be as long as Trump is directly involved as you allude to. There are protocols, land mines both politically and verbally he would be unlikely to avoid. What I would have hoped would happen is Trump uses his "brand" to get the meeting, then allows those who actually know what they are doing to make the decisions and the bulk of dialogue.

North Korean leadership didn't show up to a recent planning meeting by Trump administration officials in Singapore, a senior White House official said, adding that the U.S. made several attempts to communicate with North Korea ahead of what would have been an historic meeting but leadership from the communist nation never responded.
"They stood us up," the official said.
North Korea's statement to the U.S. Wednesday night -- in which the country threatened to pull out of the summit and called Vice President Mike Pence a "political dummy" -- was the first communication the U.S. has heard from the North in a week, the White House said.
"Based on the tremendous anger and open hostility displayed in your most recent statement, I feel it is inappropriate, at this time, to have this long-planned meeting," Trump stated in a letter to Kim released on Thursday.

Chuck Schumer had a great analysis of the deal from 2015 I believe, and I tend to agree with him, that it was a bad deal. I'm glad we backed out.
The Paris Climate Accord was terrible for us as well, having us subsidize undeveloped countries which was just essentially a bribe to have them skip fossil fuels. Both deals needed renegotiation. I'm not saying the idea and spirit behind them was flawed, but those deals themselves were bad for USA. If you're a globalist I could see how you could agree with them, but I am not and thus think since they were bad for us, they needed to be redone.

yeh to some extent. but the deal was brokered and announced by kim jong and the new SK president. obviously due to the SK set up no deal could really be done without the US signing off on it.
but all this BS that this is some great achievement by trump and his actions were somehow instrumental in getting things to where they are is pure fiction.
he just happened to be president at a time when there is very strong will from both koreas to end hostilities. nothing more, nothing less. i also doubt very much if this deal will end up holding up. no doubt part of the deal will be for the US to greatly demilitarize SK , something i very much doubt they really want to do.

The South and the North, in order to verify the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, shall conduct inspection of the objects selected by the other side and agreed upon between the two sides, in accordance with procedures and methods to be determined by the South-North Joint Nuclear Control Commission.
5. The South and the North, in order to implement this joint declaration, shall establish and operate a South-North joint Nuclear Control Commission within one (1) month of the effectuation of this joint declaration.
This Joint Declaration shall enter into force as of the day the two sides exchange appropriate instruments following the completion of their respective procedures for bringing it into effect.

yeh to some extent. but the deal was brokered and announced by kim jong and the new SK president. obviously due to the SK set up no deal could really be done without the US signing off on it.
but all this BS that this is some great achievement by trump and his actions were somehow instrumental in getting things to where they are is pure fiction.
he just happened to be president at a time when there is very strong will from both koreas to end hostilities. nothing more, nothing less. i also doubt very much if this deal will end up holding up. no doubt part of the deal will be for the US to greatly demilitarize SK , something i very much doubt they really want to do.
You can say what you want to believe, Moon gave Trump credit for it, someone intimately involved in negotiations, not some yahoo from thousands of miles away.

No sanctions lifted and he doesn’t comply there will be more sanctions imposed, if he doesn’t adhere to that, military force will be used. “Let me assure you that ‘complete’ encompasses ‘verifiable’ in the minds of everyone concerned,” Pompeo told reporters in Seoul Wednesday. “One can’t completely denuclearize without validating, authenticating – you pick the word. The President is committed to that.”
When a reporter asked why the terms were not included in the statement, Pompeo replied “It’s in the statement. You’re just wrong about that.”
“I suppose you could argue semantics, but let me assure you that it’s in the document,” Pompeo continued....

The two Koreas will discuss recovering the remains of fallen soldiers and eliminating land mines in the Dmz Zone during another round of military talks expected to take place as early as late this month.
They will also run a communication line among their naval ships in the Yellow Sea and fully restore western and eastern military communication channels, according to the agreement reached during Thursday's general-grade meeting, the first in more than a decade.
"In the follow-up military talks, (we) plan to focus on the issue of replacing the old communication line in the North and establishing a new one," an official at Seoul's defense ministry said on condition of anonymity.
"The construction work, such as installing optical cables and other equipment, would take two to three months," he added.
The official also noted that ahead of the construction work, his ministry asked the foreign ministry to check if installing such communication equipment would run afoul of international sanctions against the North.
"Should it be seen as infrastructure construction, it could be seen as an exception (from the sanctions)," he said.
