Exactly what I've been trying to explain to these studs all along.
You don't come to follow this "sport" unless you have some inner-homosexual tendencies yourself.
All of those men you see there surrounding Jay aren't GAY. Those are average guys like the ones that post here, who would like to feel how big Jay's muscles are. They are also interested in taking pictures with him and of him. They become all antsy like that of rockstar fans when they see their idols for the first time.
They would like nothing more than to workout with their idol, possibly go out to eat with them and get to know them better. They are willing to do all of this and will even pay for their hero's time.
So, let's look at the facts here for a second..
(A) They idolize another MAN.
(B) They only want to see their idol in a thong and, if possible, naked.
(C) They would love to feel their idol's muscles and even pose next to them to see who has the bigger "one".
(D) They would love to go to the gym with their idol in order to do some sweating, grunting and "lifting" with their idol.
(E) They would cherish the opportunity to be able to go and have a romanticdinner with their idols during which ideas, theories and personal secrets are revealed.
(F) They are willing to pay money to spend time with their idol, more money than they would ever "waste" on a mere woman.
Again, I repeat, none of this makes these men GAY. These are just average bros, looking up to the pros and trying to get a "taste" of what it is like to live the dream.

did you catch a documentary on hbo a couple months ago about gay politicians in the closet? they had about an hours worth of politicians and clips of them being anti-gay at conferences, voting no on gay issues, etc. then they'd show news clips of them being caught blown in a bathroom by a dude, fucking their male pages, etc.
that documentary, more than most for me, just shows what a crock of shit those failures in Washington DC are. A lifetime of failure at sports, music, school, etc. leads you to a very promising career as a hypocrite in DC, as long as my friend would put it, "your fake smile is fake enough".

Answer - I don't necessarily think that bodybuilding totally survives from gay fans but I do know that that the gay population makes up a huge part of the IFBB's fan base. And, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that at all. I have nothing against homosexuals; they are people too. I appreciate a comment from a gay man just as much as from a heterosexual woman. Because they don't understand what it's really is about. Older women look at Miss America either sexually or to tear them down. So, what would the equivalent "older women" be in bodybuilding? Because there's a bunch of them here.
It should be fairly easy to take the sport for what it is - a sport judged in the same way that gymnastics is, but because of the stereotypical view of "a man in swimming costume, oiled up, posing on a platform" the sport aspect is now taken as a sexual act. Maybe some bodybuilders do blow the judges, just as Miss America contestants do, but it's still not about that, at its root.

The fans are straight but with a big HOWEVER.
Basic point: these guys are straight. OK there may be some exceptions. They define themselves as straight, and you are what you define yourself to be (my view). They have wives and girlfriends. Their sexual fantasies have women in them (not men with men).
The HOWEVER. Sigmund Freud talked about "sublimation". When there are things (sexual things) going on deep underneath, othen these things don't come to the surface. They stay deep down inside, and they reconfigure themselves into interests, habits, hobbies that have nothing directly to do with sex. Bodybuilding involves this type of sublimation (my view).
In the case of same sex bodybuilding fans, this is not too deep a form of sublimation. It's immediately below the surface (just look at the photo). For some of the guys, it may erupt into instances of bisexuality every now and then.
But it's mostly a sublimation thing. So these guys are not gay. They are basically straight overall.

Label or not, the (still common) persecution of gays in western society wouldn't stop most people from lusting after teh cock. It's still a desire, it's still a part of someone. You have a problem if you pretend to be something you're not, which means alot to you, just because society may like you a tad less for being your true self.
Bodybuilders pose for their sport. Tennis players play tennis for their sport. They have tennis exhibitions for fun, to showcase the top players. They have guestposings for fun, to showcase the top bodybuilders. Keep trying to say it's not a sport and that it's 100% gay. Private sessions of muscle worship are a completely different thing - don't confuse the two.

They DEFINITELY exist in 2011 America. WE LABEL. In fact, gays themselves are the most insistent in slapping on labels at a moment's notice. For example, "that guy is married and has six kids, but he did it with two or three guys when he was younger. So he is a closet homosexual!" Or - "look at those guys standing in front of Cutler at that bodybuilding competition. They've got to be gay!"
Even ancient Greece probably had some concept of homosexuality. Alexander the Great may not have been "gay", but a transvestite prostitute probably was considered homosexual, or whatever the word would have been at that time.
I read about two married men in a gay bar in Istanbul about ten years ago. One was a visiting American. The other was Turk. Even though their sexual behaviors were roughly the same, the American was a "closet homosexual". The Turk was "straight". The Turk was being helpful to the American and pointing out exactly which men in the bar he believed to be gay and which were not. Most were not. According to this Turk, you are gay if you are submissive, but not otherwise. An American might laugh at this distinction, but why is one man's reality "correct" and the other "incorrect"?

It really bugs me how black and white the posts on this board are ("they are all homos!"; "No, there's not one gay person among those fans!". So here's a psychologist's viewpoint.
The fans are straight but with a big HOWEVER.
Basic point: these guys are straight. OK there may be some exceptions. They define themselves as straight, and you are what you define yourself to be (my view). They have wives and girlfriends. Their sexual fantasies have women in them (not men with men).
The HOWEVER. Sigmund Freud talked about "sublimation". When there are things (sexual things) going on deep underneath, othen these things don't come to the surface. They stay deep down inside, and they reconfigure themselves into interests, habits, hobbies that have nothing directly to do with sex. Bodybuilding involves this type of sublimation (my view).
In the case of same sex bodybuilding fans, this is not too deep a form of sublimation. It's immediately below the surface (just look at the photo). For some of the guys, it may erupt into instances of bisexuality every now and then.
But it's mostly a sublimation thing. So these guys are not gay. They are basically straight overall.
But aren't the bodybuilding magazines bought up by most the homosexual communities? I thought it was common knowledge that without the homo money, these mags wouldn't even exist.

Who goes to contests and who buys magazines not necessarily same the demographic. Buying a magazine is not as directly connected to the sport as actually showing up at a contest and paying the ticket price. Most people at contests know the competitors.

this reminds me when I was in this track&field event, a 180lbs sprinter markus pöyhönen was swormed by lady fans after sprinting... girls 16-25 surrounding him begging for autographs, they all looked really hot. and markus looks like a "skinny twink" according to getbiggers...

I'll have you know that after every IFBB professional event, there are lines of men waiting to meet their favorite IFBB pro, similar to what is seen in that picture with Jay.
