Title: NFL draft thread.
Post by: CalvinH on April 16, 2010, 06:18:02 AM
Hope the Giants get one of the top two linebackers, either McLain from Alabama or Witherspoon from Mizzu 8)

McLain fits them more than any other team.   But Cody carried Mclain with all his size and the gmen have little tackles.

Spiller at 13 for the Niners and an OT, corner, or safety at 16 (depending on who is left).

If Canty stays healthy he's over 300lb,so is Cofield, and Alford{hurt last year}..the ends are light.and Tuck is a beast wherever he lines up.

I see many people projecting Haden to SF at 13.  Sounds o.k.  I'd still like to see them get Spiller.

Regarding the QBs, I haven't watched Bradford much, but what makes him so much better than McCoy?

Spiller is such a great back.   The sad thing is we (Dallas) don't need a back  so we are going to have to deal with him some day!

I want Mays (SC fan also)   but Dallas keeps comparing him to Roy ,   by assuming Mays cannot cover.   What they don't know is that Mays CAN cover and had to every Tuesday  during SC's killer practices.   They fear his size 6-3 235 .....but overlook he is as fast as Newman!

MB is great...but they screw with his mind a lot  with Felix.  Barber is so quiet and avoids the media (so NOT TO ;))  He's so unique   I am glad Newman only has to face him at training camp.

He's a physical freak, but I've heard he had trouble in pass coverage during games.  I wouldn't know, because I don't watch USC much, but that's what the pundits say and apparently explains why he is projected to go later in the first.

Talk of Clausen to the Niners today on ESPN.

I've been hearing rumors too.  I really can't see it happening.  They invested the money in Alex Smith.  Gave him the dreaded vote of confidence.  Signed Carr to back him up.  They like Nate Davis, who is only in his second year.

They have bigger needs IMO.

Free is Flo's replacement  and if it doesn't work LD or Colombo will move there.   But Free is the  NFG now.    We will draft some linemen   but getting the BEST GUY IN THE DRAFT is cool.   It won't hurt us.   I think Denver got the best QB in the draft!

Jerry   Jerry   Jerry!

Bro....when are you going to realize that Jerry Jones is the reason why the Cowboys will never win big anytime soon??

First, like a dumbass, the guy trades a 1st and 3rd rounder for Roy Williams. Now, he drafts Dez Bryant to replace him. This confirms that Jerry is admitting that he made a horrible trade move to acquire Willimas in the first place. He gave away a 1st and 3rd for NOTHING.

History repeats itself all over again. Jones pulled the same shit years ago when he traded a 1st round pick for Joey Galloway for one more shot at a title run to pair with Aikman. Guess what? Galloway blew his knee out in the first game. Time to start over with youth and no more 1st rounder. That's the main reason why it took the Cowboys so long until they started winning again. because of decisions just like this.

Bottom line...Jones can do what he wants because he's among the most powerful owners in the NFL. He knows how to make money but that doesn't mean he's a good GM.

I think he's ok  (he won't ever fill Strehand's (gap  ooops) shoes though.   but the Gmen seem to always look for more talant for their d-line and outside lb's.   Its their tradition.   There's no ONE guy that stands out.  Sort of like Philly.  Different guys at different sizes.

JPP before Everson Griffen...Really

JPP can do a backflip...but that dont equal sacks...

JPP went to 2 Jucos and then South florida..and had 6 Sacks against crappy talent

E-Griff Doninated Notre Dame (who had a good offense) and Cal.

I guess he needed to do some backflips and shit to get some Pub

He dominated Sam Young and he sucks.  :o

I cannot complain.   Both fit needs I was worried about.   DB will be an instant playmaker and Lee will become a monster in the middle! I assume tomorrow we will get some OL-men.   It looks like Free will man the left side but if things get shaky Colombo or Davis will move there. But Free seems to be comfortable there.  There is also a bush of safeties available but I see the OTHER Hamlin taking over back there.   But so far we've had a greaat draft. Talent and muscle! :D

I think the Ravens cleaned up pretty good, too in this year's draft. Landed two 1st round graded prospects in Kimble and Cody in the 2nd round.

Picked up two really good tight ends that could push Todd Heap for playing time, too.

For not having a 1st rounder this year, I think the Ravens did pretty damn good.

We won't know for about three years how anyone really did.  Remember the 05 draft?  Alex Smith first overall.  Aaron Rodgers late in the first.  Roddy White and Vicent Jackson drafted after Troy Williamson, Mike Williams, and Matt Jones.

if i remember correctly, weatherspoon was still on the board.

you could argue jpp has a higher ceiling than weatherspoon, but mlb was a glaring need for this team. Im not sure the defense is good enough to draft what essentially is a development project in jpp, that high in the 1st round.

i think weatherspoon could have been an instant impact guy.

That's true. He also played with three NFL caliber lb's + dlmen rushing the passer in front of him at USC.

I have to argue that production in college does not always = good player. Look at Mcfadden, Russel and many others. It's a mix of production, smarts and physical tools - imo.

I'd have taken Gerhart over Mays. Mays is big and fast, but if you watch the db drills, he's not very impressive at all. I think Toby would have been the type of smash-mouth rb Singleterry could use all over the field.

I like the Vann move, he does look very explosive.

I dont Sam Young is going to make it man.
Why not?   He started for the Irish (a big time team regardless how sorry they were) which isn't a cakewalk.   His name was never blown up like Okung and what have you, but his experience is enough to getting a shot  at least as a backup RT for now.  I think the transition from ND to Dallas is pretty encouraging.

Irish were so bad when Jabba the Weiss got there and Jabba "The Hut" Weiss went down to St. Pete or Tampa and pulled his fat ass out of there and promised that he would be the next Steve Hutchinson.  ::) ::) ::) Weiss flashed his rings and promised him a Norte Dame career of National Championships and they were an Epic Fail as Sam Young will be.

He may be come a Punching Bag for Ratliff, Ware and the other Dallas CowGirls.  8) I like it! I like it alot!

He'll be on Spencer's side and Witten is usually on the outside to help!  Free gets to be DWare's chew toy or vice versa!

Look up Craig Roh and you can watch his clips of Craig destroying Dumb ass Sam Young.  8) I guess that makes me feel better because Craig plays for MICHIGAN and is only a true Sophomore.  ;) Sam young reminds me of that Tackle out of O$U....Something Boone but he was always drunk as Sam Young will be but that is because he is a DOMER.  :D

Young is NOT Boone  though I thought Boone would prove he could play once he had a shot.   As far as the Roh guy goes, maybe he (Roh) is just good.   I mean he started for the Maze as a Sophmore! Young may not be a wall yet but neither was Flo and HE turned out pretty good.

Boone was always getting drunk and the legend around Columbus, Ohio is that Boone drank 33 beers after every home game.  :o
