$167 a year.
Republican presidential candidate said Sunday that his “intent in running for president is to help middle-income Americans,” but admitted that he would only give them a $167 tax cut.
Fox News host Chris Wallace asked Romney why his plan didn’t cut tax rates for the richest Americans from 35 percent to 15 percent or less like his fellow Republicans wanted to do.
“Your plan that would eliminate the tax on capital gains and dividends doesn’t help (the middle class),” Wallace noted. “A recent study showed that a family making $75,00 a year — in terms of what they would receive by eliminating capital gains and dividends — $167, sir.”
“Well first of all, $167 is not zero,” Romney declared. “And number two, one of the reasons people don’t save their money is that they don’t see an incentive to do so. … Look, I recognize it’s not a huge tax cut. It is a tax reduction that allows middle-income folks to participate in making a brighter future for themselves and saving.”

Wow. ::) Certainly better than raising people's taxes.

You can't cut taxes until you cut spending . The deficit is too large to cut taxes right now. We need to massively cut spending and cut about 30 -50% of the govt.

none.

If Romney really wants to fire up the base, he should come out with a new tax plan that calls for eliminating the capital gains tax and cutting the effective corporate tax rate in half. That would be some serious, heavy duty pro-growth shit. Throw in some payroll tax cuts for the middle class and we'll have a booming economy with record low unemployment.

I agree that spending needs to be cut. But deficit-financed tax cuts still stimulate the economy. However, a serious cut in taxes with an equal cut in spending would be very stimulatory to the economy right now.

He doesn't have the balls to do that because he's too worried about the frothing-at-the-mouth leftists that will scream "class warfare" in their articles should he propose something like that.

True... but someone really dedicated to cutting taxes could throw in a payroll tax cut into the package, since it is a tax that mainly targets the middle class and it could have a powerful impact on unemployment.
