Many soldiers missing out on Bush’s stimulus checks


In August 2006 the 10th Mountain Division, 2nd BCT, 1-89 Cavalry was sent to Iraq for 12 months. In April 2007, the troops were told the Army was adding three additional months to their time in country.

In November 2007 the troopers of 1-89 arrived back in New York from their tour. They are now being told by the IRS, via the IRS Web site, that they haven’t earned enough money to qualify for the economic stimulus check

Isn't Bush still threatening to veto the revision of the GI Bill that would increase the $$$ for education for vets.   I believe Grandpa McCain is in league with Bush on this while Clinton and Obama support the bill.

Hey I missed out on the stimulus.  Even though I live in So Cal where 200K a year makes you a poor m-f'er.  Regardless, I do not criticize the administration because it is better the SOMEBODY pays less taxes, because a lower tax rate benefits EVERYBODY, because economic activity increases.  Ask yourselves who would get a stimulus check if "B. Hussein Obama" gets elected.  Answer ALMOST EVERYBODY (so long as "stimulus" is defined as "tax increase").

WASHINGTON - The Army's top officer, General George Casey, told Congress yesterday that his branch of the military has been stretched so thin by the war in Iraq that it can not adequately respond to another conflict - one of the strongest warnings yet from a military leader that repeated deployments to war zones in the Middle East have hamstrung the military's ability to deter future aggression.

In his first appearance as Army chief of staff, Casey told the House Armed Services Committee that the Army is "out of balance" and "the current demand for our forces exceeds the sustainable supply.

Bush didn't tax us during the good times (2001 911 recovery and the economic upswing that came with the 2003 iraq war rampup and start)

This was a big mistake, and economists pointed it out at the time.  You ALWAYS tax during good times so you can cut taxes and rates during the bad times.  Even Mccain disagreed with Bush on it, quite famously.

Now, war is winding down and recession is arriving - there is no piggy bank (we all got our refunds those years, remember?) and there are no rates to cut.
