The best film dealing with Purgatory is
"Jacob's Ladder" starring Tim Robbins (Shawshank Redemption)
Lost was ruined by the writers strikes and too many filler episodes. You just can't drag people along for 6 seasons creating the ultimate mystery and not tie it all together at the end.

The Shield was great... so was The Wire... wish they had more than one season of Generation Kill.
I'm just starting Dexter on Netflix.... I can't stand the way the dudes sister talks, like she has social anxiety disorder and a speech impediment... and the dudes girlfriend is no better, meek little 'afraid of the world/poor me' girls.

stone-cold atheist here who loved LOST to bits (named my dog Hurley, even). couple things to keep in mind.
1) they used religious symbolism, but it was in no way "christian". there were tons of allusions of hinduism, buddhism, and other eastern religions (dharma, anyone??)
2) if you didn't sense the spiritual aspect WAY early on, you weren't paying attention. the series was, from the first season, about faith vs science.
3) it wasn't about "purgatory" and "heaven" so much as a spiritual completeness. the end was them finding their inner peace, not eternal salvation. they didn't go to heaven. in fact, i'd argue it was a damn near nihilistic ending because the implication was that after they came back together and sort of "found" themselves... it all went black.
4) so the very end wasn't phenomenal. the series as a whole kicked ass. don't stress over that part.

wire up through 5th season is probably the 2nd best show of all time (i'm one of those assholes who thinks breaking bad takes top spot).
but if it's for cardio, dude. pick something easier like psych or burn notice. shows that don't need you to sit there and pay attention to all the tiny bullshit. hell i've gone through futurama more times than i can count, LOL.

The ending was a horrible saccharin cliche. I was in Hawaii in 2010 and I came across the crew tearing down sets. I guess the smoke monster thing chased someone into this tree or so I was told.

Its not that bad. One eye slightly bigger then the other. She just needs to be careful about her hair style b/c that will emphasize her asymmetry or hide it. Seems like hiding is the usual approach for Deb Morgan.

tv shows like these are a flawed format of experiencing a story
a play or a film or a short series has a story developed in a way with a thought-out ending. that's why a good movie has a slow beginning, they need not use the cheap tricks to lure you in.
tv shows - that mindless orgie in "beautiful" faces and fancy clips - are in their nature an unfinished concept and made with the now silly cliffhanger principle to sell and sell in an endless stream until the money machine breaks or it runs out of steam.
yes there might be exceptions but this is why shows are often best in season 1, maybe 2 or 3, and derails later on.
other tv show formats like sitcoms and comedy shows doesn't rely on real melodrama and therefore works with sustained quality
it's just like jerking off your brain, easy stimilus by watching good looking people and a interesting concept for a while and move over to a new show.
don't expect a real ending ;)
