Fortunately, I am on the North East side of the island and the hurricane is approaching from the other side, the South West side, of the island. It seems to be veering off toward the West and it's doesn't look like it's going to hit my side directly. The other side of the island, Waikiki side, is getting flooded out.

Crazy stuff. My great niece just flew there last Sunday for a visit with a friend who parents were vacationing there before school started here. All of them got flights out on the 24th. Too bad their vacation was cut short.

One of the best ways to overcome racism is through friendship. While stationed at Schofield Barracks 15 years ago, my daughter and son-in-law developed a close relationship with a Maoli man. They've remained friends to this day. They were in daily contact last week because of the hurricane. Fortunately, Blake is doing fine.

Strangers are naturally leery of one another. Don't just show up at a exclusive Maoli hangout such as certain beaches, be invited. It is natural to fear what you don't know. At their core, people have more in common than they could imagine.

So I am in Kailua killing time until my doctor's appointment. Kailua is a very well planned upper-class city. You have the main town where are the businesses are and the houses are in the surrounding area. So you can just park at any one of the business parking lots and then hoof it. You can get to anywhere on foot.

So I'm looking for a Jack in the Box or a Burger King. I like my burgers with crisp leaf cut lettuce, sliced onions, and sliced tomatoes. As great a deal as the QP w/cheese is, it's still the same diced onions and lettuce and no tomatoes.

I know where there is a Jack in the Box so I head in that direction. My freaking knees have really been acting up lately (I mentioned before that I have to have them replaced) but I trudge on. As I see the oasis of the Jack in the Box sign I trudge on wincing with determination.

Then, as fate would have it, I find that I am walking right by a McDonald's. I swear they are everywhere. It's one of the reasons they just own the market. I pause, "Should I? Should I?"
I've been on a hot apple pie kick recently and they are only 89 cents FFS. Love deep fried sugar stuff. Doughnuts, malasadas... It's not like I'm "prepping" for a show. I look again wistfully at Jack in the Box. Really love that Sourdough bacon burger. Someone just walks out of McDonald's and I see the pristine tables and floors shimmering with all due hygienic propriety beckoning me. Jack in the Box now seems miles away.

It feels good to be home again.

Oh, BTW, I forgot the most important thing. As mentioned, I love my burgers with crisp leaf lettuce, sliced onions, and sliced tomatoes.

It's not crowded so I go up to the cashier with my phone already set to the barcode so I can get the $1 deal for the Qp w/cheese. She then asks what QP w/ cheese do I want.
I reply, "What? Just the QP with cheese, what other kind do you have?"

She said, "Oh we have the regular and then the deluxe."

"What? What do you mean deluxe?"

"You know. Deluxe. Whole leaf lettuce, sliced tomatoes, and sliced onions. It's more expensive but still just a dollar if you use your phone."

"Wait a minute? You have real deluxe QP cheeseburgers? And it only costs a dollar." I ask in utter disbelief.

"Yeah, as long as you use your phone."

"How long has this been going on?"

"I don't know. Like forever. But I've only been working here for three months."

Pinter pause. My eyes start to well up in tears. I want to embrace her and live in this very McDonald's for the rest of my life.

This is what makes McDonald's great. This is what makes Capitalism so great. I know this will shock people but not only is Capitalism and far more superior economic system than Socialism, it is actually a far more moral economic system than Socialism. It makes society better, it makes businesses better and, it makes people better. Yes, you heard that right. Capitalism makes, ever forces, people to become better people.

Well, the truth of the matter (and you already know this) is that you are not YT or as it is said over there, Haole.  I am.  Bette Midler was born and raised there too.   She went to Haole High, aka Radford High School class of 1963.  

It was given that name by locals because most of the military kids attended it.  She's far, far more liberal than I but I would hazard a guess that being a girl, a haole girl, overall she was treated far better by the locals (male locals, that is) than I ever was.  A great many Hawaiians are racist assholes of color who, like other racists assholes of color, get away with it because they're racist assholes of color.  And in Hawaii, being a racist asshole of color is government sanctioned.

In our version of capitalism, the workers that produce the goods cannot afford the goods they produced...hence the wonderful world of credit and debt.....or financial slavery....Poor people are encouraged to buy commodities they cannot afford with "No money down and easy payments"....Of course the rich will always benefit from this system as they don't need credit..and if they decide to use credit, its usually with little or no interest...because the poor pay such exhorbitant interest, fees and finacning charges....and of course the entire world of finance is owned by the rich..with Heads of banks getting $100 million dollars just as bonuses while cranking up late fees, overdraft charges, under limit fees...account maintenance fees on the poor...the rich will never pay any type of these fees....



I'm not a socialist but think we can improve on this form of capitalism.
