They are 'shopping the skin, make them look drier and so on, it's not using a lense to make look arms bigger like some kid on bb.com. ALL cover pics are shopped to the max.

We punch up color and sometimes change the background colors to accent the cover subject (it was not as green originaly), but we don't make muscles larger or shrink heads or any of that. Not sure how you would make the skin look drier, but if anything you want the skin to have some shine to it to catch the highlights and accent the difference in the shadows, highlights and midtones.
The only photoshop done anatomy wise to that image is a slight trim to his wasit on the right side...arms, chest etc are as is from the original images.

I'm pretty honest about that stuff actually...we make it a point NOT to do too much to images (and I didn't have to say we trimmed his waist)
Especially recently we are trying to keep things as real as possible...no fake weights etc. In fact, we don't even have access to fake weights now...and Horton photos have never used them

An Arnold cover allways perks sales; this is why you usually see it end of year so that AMI can "make their numbers".

hahaha, you just admitted you photoshop the covers. Don't you think making his waist smaller ist exactly the same as making his arms bigger?
You are changing the lighting, you are adjusting the sharpness and so on.
I have an old issue of Muscle and Fitness magazine where you shopped Brian Wiefering a nice six pack despite him havin a four pack genetically.
The pic below is the unshopped one, the MF cover has two more lines under his navel to make it look like a sixpack.

That makes no sense. The only FLEX Arnold covers that appeared at the 'end of the year' has been the Dec. 1984 and Oct. '91 issue. All others have appeared early or mid year.
