Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Health Department understated the number of New Yorkers who died in nursing homes during the early days of the coronavirus pandemic by more than 50 percent as the facilities struggled to properly isolate and treat residents amid a state order they not turn away COVID-19 patients.
The bombshell finding was contained in a new 76-page report released Thursday by state Attorney General Letitia James, which found that mismanagement and long-standing problems in the private care business turned nursing homes into COVID death traps.
“As the pandemic and our investigations continue, it is imperative that we understand why the residents of nursing homes in New York unnecessarily suffered at such an alarming rate,” said Attorney General James in a statement.
“While we cannot bring back the individuals we lost to this crisis, this report seeks to offer transparency that the public deserves and to spur increased action to protect our most vulnerable residents,” she continued. “Nursing homes residents and workers deserve to live and work in safe environments, and I will continue to work hard to safeguard this basic right during this precarious time.”
As part of the report, James’ investigators surveyed 62 nursing homes across the state and found that 1,914 residents from those facilities either died there or at nearby hospitals after testing positive for coronavirus or exhibiting symptoms of the deadly disease.
That figure was 56 percent higher than the numbers for those facilities published by the state Department of Health, which only published the number of people who passed away while still at the nursing homes at the time of their deaths, not those who were subsequently taken to a hospital and then died.

Since last spring, CNN's Prime Time host Chris Cuomo has been pushing unfounded conspiracy theories that Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was trying to cover-up and manipulate coronavirus numbers in the Sunshine State. But in a bombshell report from the New York State Attorney General Letitia James Thursday, it turned out that it was Chris’s brother, Democratic New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, whose administration was manipulating the data.
According to James’s investigation, the New York Health Department was undercounting nursing home deaths by upwards of 50 percent. Nursing home deaths were a touchy subject for the Governor because he refuses to be held accountable for his order to have elderly COVID patients placed in long-term care facilities.
“For most of the past year, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has tried to brush away a persistent criticism that undermined his national image as the man who led New York through the pandemic: that his policies had allowed thousands of nursing home residents to die of the virus,” wrote The New York Times.
Chris had done his part to try to wash the blood from his brother’s hands.
Over the summer, during one of their many ethically-questionable interviews, Chris callously brushed over the topic of nursing homes in New York:
CHRIS CUOMO: Nursing homes, people died there. They didn't have to, it was mismanaged and the operators have been given immunity. What do you have to say about that?
ANDREW CUOMO: Several statements that are not correct, but that's okay, it's your show, you say whatever you want to say.
After their conversation wrapped up, Chris admitted that he couldn’t act as a proper journalist when it came to covering family, even touting his brother’s job as governor. “Unusual times, right? He's my big brother, I love him, of course, I'm not objective, but let's call it straight. Look at the state. Look at the numbers. Look at New Jersey. Look at Connecticut. Look how they came together. Yeah, he's my brother. There's no question, I can cry about it in a second,” he said.
He added: “But the results are there for all to see. Was it perfect? No. You tell me what is. But look at the state our country’s in. And if you don't think this is going to be reflected in what happens in November, then you haven't been paying attention.”
And we would be remiss if we left out how Chris turned one of their interviews into a Cuomo comedy show, pulling out giant cotton swaps to mock the size of his brother's nose after he took a COVID test (pictured above).
Looking a little bit further back, we saw how Chris was actively smearing Florida and DeSantis as Andrew packed COVID into nursing homes (pictured above). “All right. Look, I know there are numbers at you, flying all over the place. And I know it's hard to trust them. And I'm going to give you a new reason to be distrustful of the numbers,” he said from his basement quarantine, at the time. “Florida.”
“They're hiding the death numbers. They’re hiding the death numbers,” he later exclaimed to CNN Tonight host Don Lemon. And throughout the rest of 2020, Chris would harken back to his Florida-bashing conspiracy theories and pontificate about how government officials don’t hide data for “good reason.”

Cuomo Won’t Apologize for Nursing-Home Miscount, Says ‘Who Cares’ Where Deaths Recorded
New York governor Andrew Cuomo said the issue of coronavirus deaths in state nursing homes had become a “political football,” in his first public comments after Attorney General Letitia James found that his administration had drastically undercounted nursing-home deaths.
The state health department in April 2020 altered the way it reported coronavirus deaths among nursing home residents. Residents who died of COVID-19 in the facilities themselves were listed as nursing home deaths, while residents who died after being transported to a hospital were not included in that tally.
The change in reporting artificially lowered the true death toll. Health Commissioner Howard Zucker admitted on Thursday night that 3,829 nursing home residents have died of COVID-19 in a hospital since the start of the pandemic, bringing the total nursing home death toll from 8,914 to 12,743, a jump of 43 percent.
“Look, whether a person died in a hospital or died in a nursing home, people died.” Cuomo told reporters on Friday. My father “was in a hospital, got transferred to a nursing home. My father died. My father was in a nursing home, got transferred to a hospital. My father died. People died.”
Cuomo added, “If you look at New York State, we have a lower percentage of deaths in nursing homes than other states. A third of all deaths in this nation are from nursing homes. New York State, we’re…about 28 percent, but we’re below the national average in number of deaths in nursing homes. But who cares — 33, 28, died in a hospital, died in a nursing home — they died.” (The percentage of nursing home deaths appears to be 30 percent, not 28 percent as Cuomo asserted.)

In a 16-page decision, acting Albany Supreme Court Justice Kimberly O’Connor blasted the DOH for repeatedly telling the Empire Center for Public Policy “that it was unable to respond to the [Freedom of Information Law] request” since it was filed six months ago.
“DOH does not, in the Court’s opinion, offer an adequate explanation as to why it has not responded to that request within its estimated time period or to date,” O’Connor wrote.
“Its continued failure to provide petitioner a response, given the straightforward nature of the request … goes against FOIL’s broad standard of open and transparent government and is a violation of that statute.”
O’Connor ordered the DOH to turn over the records within 5 business days.
She also gave the Empire Center 60 days to submit evidence of its legal fees and court costs, along with a proposed court order for it to be reimbursed by the DOH.

When Cuomo announced Dec. 11 that indoor dining would be banned in New York City, the 7-day average of coronavirus cases per 100,000 people in the city was 40.2, according to data from the New York Times. When he announced Jan. 29 that indoor dining could resume, that number was 66.1 – 64% higher than the average per-capita case counts in December....

Governor Cuomo’s top aide privately apologized to Democratic lawmakers for withholding the state’s nursing-home death toll from COVID-19 — telling them “we froze” out of fear the true numbers would “be used against us” by federal prosecutors, The Post has learned.
The stunning admission of a cover-up was made by Secretary to the Governor Melissa DeRosa during a video conference call with state Democratic leaders in which she said the Cuomo administration had rebuffed a legislative request for the tally in August because “right around the same time, [then-President Donald Trump] turns this into a giant political football,” according to an audio recording of the two-hour-plus meeting.
“He starts tweeting that we killed everyone in nursing homes,” DeRosa said. “He starts going after [New Jersey Gov. Phil] Murphy, starts going after [California Gov. Gavin] Newsom, starts going after [Michigan Gov.] Gretchen Whitmer.”
In addition to attacking Cuomo’s fellow Democratic governors, DeRosa said, Trump “directs the Department of Justice to do an investigation into us.”
“And basically, we froze,” she told the lawmakers on the call.
“Because then we were in a position where we weren’t sure if what we were going to give to the Department of Justice, or what we give to you guys, what we start saying, was going to be used against us while we weren’t sure if there was going to be an investigation.”
DeRosa added: “That played a very large role into this.”
After dropping the bombshell, DeRosa asked for “a little bit of appreciation of the context” and offered what appears to be the Cuomo administration’s first apology for its handling of nursing homes amid the pandemic.
But instead of a mea culpa to the grieving family members of more than 13,000 dead seniors or the critics who say the Health Department spread COVID-19 in the care facilities with a March 25 state Health Department directive that nursing homes admit infected patients, DeRosa tried to make amends with the fellow Democrats for the political inconvenience it caused them.
“So we do apologize,” she said. “I do understand the position that you were put in. I know that it is not fair. It was not our intention to put you in that political position with the Republicans.”

Andrew Cuomo’s COVID Reign Has Been Devastating, And It’s Time For A Reckoning

We need a full, thorough, and independent investigation with subpoenas to Department of Health Commissioner Howard Zucker, the governor’s staff, and the governor himself.
A few weeks ago, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, without a hint of self-awareness, said, “Incompetent government kills people. More people died than needed to die in COVID.” Sadly, I couldn’t agree more.
While many in corporate media glorified Cuomo’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, helping create a cult of personality for him among Democrats across the country, an examination of his decision-making reveals that he failed New Yorkers on many fronts.
Cuomo was given near-unilateral emergency powers to tackle the pandemic, with the state legislature forfeiting all decision-making and responsibility to the governor and his team. Thus, Cuomo’s decisions and the repercussions of his actions fall squarely on his shoulders.
First, and most jarring, is the revelation that the Cuomo administration’s decided to cover up the true cost of their Department of Health order on March 25 that sent COVID-positive patients back into nursing homes. That fateful order was subsequently deleted from the state’s Department of Health website in the beginning of the cover-up by the Cuomo administration.
Following that order, tens of thousands of nursing home residents lost their lives and the Cuomo administration moved into overdrive on blocking transparency efforts, shutting down inquiries at every turn, and even releasing a phony report absolving them of any responsibility.
Two weeks ago, we learned in a report by New York Attorney General Tish James, a Democrat, that Cuomo’s administration hid the true cost to lives of this non-scientific order, under-counting nursing home deaths by almost 50 percent. Just this weekend, we learned the Cuomo administration intentionally hid and withheld information from federal authorities.
We need a full, thorough, and independent investigation with subpoenas to Department of Health Commissioner Howard Zucker, the governor’s staff, and the governor himself.
It also speaks volumes that for months on end, the governor stonewalled transparency efforts by families that lost loved ones while mocking their efforts. His cruelty in this regard was on full display in January when he said “Who cares?” when asked about the death toll.
We care, governor. Those families deserve answers and justice.
Second, Cuomo’s administration forced out many of the public health experts who should have been developing New York’s vaccine plan, deciding instead to recruit expensive consulting firms. This led to an incredibly slow, ineffectual, and confusing rollout of the vaccine. My legislative office is still receiving daily calls from seniors older than 80 who simply cannot get an appointment no matter how hard they look.
While media outlets continue to sing Cuomo’s praises, the reality on the ground is that his top-down, Soviet-esque management style has hampered the efficacy and speed of the vaccine rollout, tying local health departments in knots. Every county health department in New York already has a mass vaccination plan, yet the governor refused for weeks to let them use those plans, instead of forcing them into the system created by his high-priced and high-brow consulting firms, all at taxpayers’ expense.
Third, Cuomo’s extensive lockdowns and subsequent non-scientific decisions to limit capacity in houses of worship shut down indoor dining, and restrict in-person learning (even temporarily) have hurt millions more.
Setting unconstitutional caps on houses of worship was rejected by the Supreme Court in a 5-4 decision, a case that shouldn’t have been necessary in the first place. Many houses of worship, spanning all types of faiths, were already setting limits on themselves to ensure the health and safety of their worshippers. Recommending that they be shut down or capped was ludicrous, and an affront to the basic right to freedom of religion in our nation.
Another group whose lives and livelihoods have been destroyed by Cuomo’s insatiable desire for control is restaurant owners and restaurant workers. Shutting down indoor dining in New York City made zero sense at the time, with people being infected at less than 1.5 percent (lower than the state positivity rate) when dining indoors. Now, Cuomo has reopened dining when the infection rate has climbed significantly.
These decisions are not being made based on science, but what the governor “feels” is the right move. That is a recipe for disaster that cannot be allowed to continue. Cuomo’s actions are driven by his need for control, his ego, and his ability to legislate freely, as Democrats in the state legislature have completely abdicated all their duties as a co-equal branch of government.
Finally, it’s clear that New York students are rapidly falling behind other students around the globe. The lack of in-person interaction and learning is having devastating impacts on our children’s academic and social futures, as they are not learning the important lessons we all learned in grade school.
To the governor’s credit, he didn’t outright ban in-person learning, but he certainly hasn’t been a champion for it either. Hybrid-learning programs are still leaving our kids behind, and his silence on this subject is deafening. I’d hazard a guess he’s spent more time bashing former President Trump at his press conferences than he has talked about the needs of our students.
In short, the governor’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic has been nothing short of disastrous for the millions of New Yorkers who call the Empire State home. While CNN, MSNBC, and other major news outlets remain busy pumping up Cuomo’s ego and image to the American public, Americans need to hear that his decisions cost tens of thousands of New Yorkers their lives, hundreds of thousands of students their educational advancement, and millions of New Yorkers their livelihoods.

During a virtual news conference at which he declined to take a question from The Post, Cuomo claimed that “there’s nothing to investigate” regarding the cover-up to which Secretary to the Governor Melissa DeRosa confessed during a video conference call with Democratic lawmakers last week.
Cuomo never directly addressed DeRosa’s recorded remarks in which she admitted “we froze” over whether to come clean to the Legislature — or the public — about nursing home deaths in the face of a Justice Department inquiry.

After awarding praise to Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic last year, Dr. Anthony Fauci on CNN Tuesday refused to comment on Cuomo’s brewing nursing home scandal.
Asked about Cuomo’s decision to pack nursing homes full of vulnerable residents with COVID-positive patients, Fauci, who is now President Joe Biden’s chief medical adviser, punted the football.
“You’re a New Yorker yourself, though you don’t live there right now. Andrew Cuomo is coming under criticism now for the big move back to long-term care facilities in the midst of this crisis here,” said “CNN Newsroom” host Jim Sciutto, according to WFMZ-TV.
“[Cuomo has] argued that his state was following federal guidelines when he ordered those long-term care facilities to accept patients returning from hospitals. I wonder, can you clear that up. Was he actually following federal guidelines to do that?” Sciutto asked.
“You know, Jim, I can’t. I mean, I’m sorry. I’m really. I’m honestly not trying to evade your question, but I’m not really sure of all the details of that, and I think if I make a statement, it probably could either be incorrect or taken out of context,” Fauci responded.

The investigation is not yet far along and is focused on top members of Cuomo’s coronavirus task force, the Albany Times-Union reported, citing a source with direct knowledge of the matter. Neither Cuomo nor any administration official has at this point been accused of any wrongdoing.

Kim, whose uncle died in a nursing home in 2020 due to a presumed COVID-19 case, told the publication, "There's no undoing here. They have blood on their hands. We're talking about his record of performance in the last 10 months."
On Wednesday morning, Cuomo's senior adviser Rich Azzopardi said in a statement, "Kim's assertion that the governor said he would 'destroy him' is false."

While many legacy media outlets helped bury Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s (D-N.Y.) COVID-19 nursing home scandal, some Democratic officials in New York have refused to play ball. New York State Assemblyman Ron Kim (D-Queens) has vocally condemned Cuomo after his uncle, Son Kim, died in a nursing home in April after suffering COVID-19 symptoms. On Wednesday, Kim told The New York Post that Cuomo threatened him last Thursday before the governor condemned Kim in a press conference.
Cuomo reportedly called Kim on Thursday night, after The New York Post revealed that Melissa DeRosa, Cuomo’s secretary, privately admitted that the governor’s administration withheld death data for fear that federal prosecutors would use it against them.
“At first, there was a silence on the phone,” Kim told The Post. “Then the governor says, ‘Mr. Kim, are you an honorable man?'”
Cuomo reportedly interrupted Kim while he was “in the middle of bathing my kids.” The governor asked his fellow Democrat to draft a statement “to say that Melissa DeRosa said there was a federal investigation and they had to deal with that first.”
“You have not seen my wrath. I have been biting my tongue for months,” Cuomo reportedly added. “I can tell the whole world what a bad person you are and you will be finished.”
“You will be destroyed,” the governor warned.
Kim said Cuomo yelled so loudly that “my wife could hear the governor yelling into the phone.” The threat reportedly chilled the family. “After that call, we were devastated. My wife didn’t sleep at all,” the assemblyman said.
Cuomo proceeded to call Kim repeatedly on Saturday, but he did not pick up.

I've always felt that Andrew Cuomook is an asshole who would probably be nothing more than a pedestrian lawyer without his father's connections. However, this blanketing of nursing home deaths revelation is a gift to progressive Democrats. Rickety Joe is not going the term distance (certainly not 8 and possibly not 4 full years), so Kamalasped Anus is sure to either take over during his first four years and/or still have to run for the Democratic nomination in 2024. Cuomook was gaining momentum as a confident moderate candidate and I believe would ream Kamalapsed Anus in the primaries, but he is now diminished as the progressive wackos start to pile on in anticipation of their 2024 "middlegame" of political chess.

New York Assemblyman Ron Kim (D), who last week said he was threatened by Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) for seeking answers on the handling of coronavirus outbreaks in the state's nursing homes, said on Monday to "follow the money" in the scandal.
"Back on March 25, the governor issued a mandate that sent 9,000 COVID patients back to nursing homes without being tested. That's when I started getting involved, when I saw the impact of that on the ground," Kim told Hill.TV.
"I believe part of the reason they suppressed the number of deaths and decoupled the data was to make sure we didn't have the tools to repeal" broad immunity Cuomo secured for numerous nursing home executives, Kim added.
Asked by co-host Krystal Ball about Cuomo's push for immunity for the executives, Kim replied: "If you follow the money, Gov. Cuomo got about $1.5 million in campaign donations from the same industry lobbyists who wrote the language of the legal immunity, who bragged about it in a press release."

The campaign by critics of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s bid to hide nursing home COVID-19 deaths as he basked in media praise for his virus efforts is kicking into a higher gear today with a new video call for him to go.
The conservative Washington-based Committee to Unleash Prosperity is posting a video detailing the alleged failures of Cuomo’s virus efforts juxtaposed with his bragging book and Emmy for holding daily coronavirus briefings.
“Andrew Cuomo claims he protected nursing homes. It didn't work. Cuomo lied,” said the video shown to Secrets. “Seniors died in darkness while Cuomo took the spotlight,” it said, adding, “Cuomo lied. Seniors died.”
Committee member Phil Kerpen, also the president of American Commitment, a policy think tank, has been doggedly following the virus statistics and said Cuomo deserves special criticism.
“Governor Cuomo forced highly infectious patients into nursing homes despite widespread warnings that doing so would cost lives and worse hospital overcrowding. He kept this disastrous policy in place for six devastating weeks, and then steadfastly refused to disclose the real number of long-term care resident deaths in the state, hiding behind a ‘place of death’ number that was a fraction of the real number and inconsistent with reporting from every other state,” said Kerpen.

Filmmaker and journalist Morgan Pehme published an op-ed accusing the Cuomo administration of terrorizing him for trying to run a story that exposed the New York governor for having distorted the truth.
The accusations come as one state lawmaker has similarly accused the governor of making harassing phone calls threatening his career.
Pehme’s column, published in the New York Post, accuses Cuomo’s secretary Melissa DeRosa of “threatening to destroy me” fur running a negative story back in 2014.
The former editor of City & State, a New York politics magazine, charges that while DeRosa was the one making the call, he knew it was at the behest of her boss.

Things are finally getting real for New York’s thug Governor. – In the world of the American left, no story is considered to be real until it is carried by the New York Times. Yes, that really is the demented little world your leftwing friends live in. So long as the Times is ignoring any story – like Hunter Biden’s laptop, for example – liberals, in their demented minds, believe that gives them a pass on believing it’s real.
This is why your leftwing friends still don’t acknowledge the unarguable fact that high officials in the Obama/Biden administration – including Obama and Biden themselves – attempted to fix the 2016 election and ran a slow-rolling coup d’etat on American soil for three long years. It’s madness, but it’s how they justify their studious ignorance on issue after issue.
This rule of leftist life has certainly been at play in the controversies surrounding Gov. Cuomo, as a mountain of evidence has come to light that his COVID response edicts caused the deaths of thousands of the state’s senior citizens in nursing homes and that he and his toadies worked to cover up the scale of that issue. Cuomo has also been dogged by allegations of serial sexual harassment, bullying and other gross misconduct in office over the course of his long and sordid time in office, the most recent being a long, detailed essay of his behavior authored by a former top assistant, Lindsey Boylan, which I wrote about four days ago.
That story broke just a week or so after a New York Democrat legislator, Ron Kim, alleged that Cuomo had threatened to “destroy” him if he didn’t go along with the administration’s ongoing efforts to cover up the number of nursing home deaths.
So long as the fake newspaper of record refused to cover these scandals in any real detail, Cuomo has felt safe and secure in continuing his lifelong pattern of behavior, and your leftwing friends have felt fully justified in responding by simply parroting the excuse-making talking points they heard an hour earlier from some talking head on The View. You all know that’s what they do, right?
But now that game could be coming to an end, after this happened on Saturday:
That’s right: Suddenly, the Times has decided to actually give some coverage to the sexual harassment story after years of ignoring it on behalf of Cuomo. Not only that, but someone at CNN gave Fake Jake Tapper permission to actually tweet about it. You can practically hear the cries of “Oh, the humanity!” coming from the Governor’s mansion in Albany.
Here’s an excerpt from that story:
ALBANY, N.Y. — A second former aide to Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo is accusing him of sexual harassment, saying that he asked her questions about her sex life, whether she was monogamous in her relationships and if she had ever had sex with older men.
The aide, Charlotte Bennett, who was an executive assistant and health policy adviser in the Cuomo administration until she left in November, told The New York Times that the governor had harassed her late last spring, during the height of the state’s fight against the coronavirus.
Ms. Bennett, 25, said the most unsettling episode occurred on June 5, when she was alone with Mr. Cuomo in his State Capitol office. In a series of interviews this week, she said the governor had asked her numerous questions about her personal life, including whether she thought age made a difference in romantic relationships, and had said that he was open to relationships with women in their 20s — comments she interpreted as clear overtures to a sexual relationship.
Mr. Cuomo said in a statement to The Times on Saturday that he believed he had been acting as a mentor and had “never made advances toward Ms. Bennett, nor did I ever intend to act in any way that was inappropriate.” He said he had requested an independent review of the matter and asked that New Yorkers await the findings “before making any judgments.”
Ms. Bennett said that during the June encounter, the governor, 63, also complained to her about being lonely during the pandemic, mentioning that he “can’t even hug anyone,” before turning the focus to Ms. Bennett. She said that Mr. Cuomo asked her, “Who did I last hug?”
Ms. Bennett said she had tried to dodge the question by responding that she missed hugging her parents. “And he was, like, ‘No, I mean like really hugged somebody?’” she said.
Mr. Cuomo never tried to touch her, Ms. Bennett said, but the message of the entire episode was unmistakable to her.
“I understood that the governor wanted to sleep with me, and felt horribly uncomfortable and scared,” Ms. Bennett said. “And was wondering how I was going to get out of it and assumed it was the end of my job.”
Ms. Bennett said she had disclosed the interaction with Mr. Cuomo to his chief of staff, Jill DesRosiers, less than a week later and was transferred to another job, as a health policy adviser, with an office on the opposite side of the Capitol, soon after that.Ms. Bennett said she had also given a lengthy statement to a special counsel to the governor, Judith Mogul, toward the end of June.

Amid increasing calls for an independent investigation into the allegations, the Cuomo administration has asked the attorney general and the court of appeals to select an independent lawyer to conduct a thorough review and issue a public report.
De Blasio released a statement Sunday morning after a second aide came forward with sexual harassment allegations against the governor on Saturday.
"New Yorkers have seen detailed, documented accounts of sexual harassment, multiple instances of intimidation, and the admitted withholding of information on the deaths of over 15,000 people. There’s a reason that Gov. Cuomo, Emmy-winning TV star and best-selling leader of the fight against the coronavirus, has abruptly gone dark.
Actually, there are a few reasons.
The fatal moment, politically speaking, probably wasn’t Cuomo’s decision last March — when it looked like the hospital system here could collapse like it had in Italy — to require nursing homes to take medically stable patients back in from hospitals without testing them for COVID and to give both nursing homes and hospitals a legal shield. It’s his refusal, nearly a year later, to acknowledge the literally fatal consequences of that decision.
Last month, Attorney General Letitia James released a devastating report estimating that the number of deaths of nursing home residents in hospitals was 50% greater than the state had previously acknowledged, forcing Cuomo’s health commissioner to finally disclose 4,000 additional deaths tied to nursing homes.
Cuomo shrugged, arguing that since we already knew how many total people had died, the breakdown he’d concealed for nearly a year was a mere detail:
“Who cares [if they] died in the hospital, died in a nursing home? They died.”
That was remarkably callous, more so because he’d had so long to prepare his answer. But Cuomo simply isn’t built to admit a mistake.
Then came his chief aide Melissa DeRosa’s blackmail-attempt-turned-confession on a conference call with Democratic lawmakers two weeks ago. That’s where she told them that the administration hadn’t turned over the coronavirus-related nursing home death numbers they’d been asking for since last spring because Trump’s Justice Department had asked for the same numbers last summer.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo was set to be the primary honoree at the LGBT Bar of New York’s 2021 gala but when news broke of allegations he sexually harassed a former aide, he was scrubbed from the event.
Early Wednesday, a few hours before a Medium post on the alleged harassment was published, the LGBT Bar of New York sent an email announcing Cuomo as this year’s “Community Vision Award Recipient.”
“For decades, the LGBT Bar Association Foundation of Greater New York, LeGaL, has bestowed the Community Vision Award upon individuals or organizations with a distinguished record of service to the LGBTQ community, including a sustained commitment to achieving equal rights for all members of our community,” the email reads.
It includes a long list of accomplishments the non-profit worked with Cuomo on, including the repealing of the “walking while trans ban” and the passage of GENDA, which prohibits discrimination based on gender identity in New York.
But when it came time for the virtual gala Thursday evening, Cuomo wasn’t mentioned by the hosts once, a video of the event on YouTube shows.
“With the help of the LGBT Bar of New York, we have achieved so many major victories right here in New York,” master of ceremonies Marti Gould Cummings, a drag artist and City Council candidate, said at the start of the event as they rattled off a list of accomplishments they’d credited Cuomo for in the email without mentioning the embattled gov.
The gala went on to celebrate five other honorees for the group’s “Community Excellence Award,” naming them and congratulating them on their success without any mention of Cuomo.
Cuomo’s office has repeatedly denied the allegations.

Rep. Kathleen Rice has become the first New York Democrat in Congress to join mounting calls for Gov. Andrew Cuomo to resign after three women accused him of offensive behavior.
"The time has come. The Governor must resign," Rice, a former district attorney, tweeted Monday night.

Rice was once a close ally of Cuomo's. In the 2010 race for state attorney general, Rice was widely believed to be Cuomo's preferred pick for the role, but he ended up endorsing her opponent, Eric Schneiderman, right before the primary. In 2013, Rice was appointed by Cuomo as one of the three-co-chairs of the Moreland Commission to look into public corruption. She stepped down one year later after announcing her run for Congress.
Rice joins a number of Democratic lawmakers from the state's legislature denouncing Cuomo's actions in wake of the third accusation.

The Wall Street Journal revealed that Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s top advisors told state health officials to alter the report on the nursing home deaths caused by COVID-19.
In March 2020, Cuomo came under fire immediately when he issued an order that forced nursing homes to readmit residents who had COVID-19.
Now more evidence has emerged that Cuomo and his cronies worked overtime to cover-up his obvious mistake.
The July 2020 report only counted the people who died inside the nursing homes. It did not include the residents who died in hospitals after they got sick inside the homes.
Therefore, officials announced only 6,432 nursing home residents died even though the report first said: “nearly 10,000 nursing-home residents had died in New York by July last year.”

The changes Mr. Cuomo’s aides and health officials made to the nursing-home report, which haven’t been previously disclosed, reveal that the state possessed a fuller accounting of out-of-facility nursing-home deaths as early as the summer. The Health Department resisted calls by state and federal lawmakers, media outlets and others to release the data for another eight months.
State officials now say more than 15,000 residents of nursing homes and other long-term-care facilities were confirmed or presumed to have died from Covid-19 since March of last year—counting both those who died in long-term-care facilities and those who died later in hospitals. That figure is about 50% higher than earlier official death tolls.
The typical PR responses have come out of the administration:
In response to questions from the Journal, administration officials said Thursday that Mr. Cuomo’s advisers advocated against including data on out-of-facility deaths because they had concerns about its accuracy.
“The out-of-facility data was omitted after DOH could not confirm it had been adequately verified,” Beth Garvey, a special counsel and senior adviser to Mr. Cuomo, said in a statement.
One official familiar with the back-and-forth between the Health Department and Mr. Cuomo’s advisers said state Health Commissioner Howard Zucker agreed the out-of-facility data shouldn’t be included in the report.
“[The Department of Health] was comfortable with the final report and believes fully in its conclusion that the primary driver that introduced Covid into the nursing homes was brought in by staff,” said Gary Holmes, a spokesman for the Health Department.
Those who pushed officials include:
Cuomo’s secretary Melissa DeRosa Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker Advisor Jim Malatras (now works as chancellor of New York’s public college system) Linda Lacewell, superintendent of NY State Department of Financial Services Eleanor Adams was the lead author of the report. She worked in the Health Department’s Metropolitan Area Regional Office in the area “that focuses on infection control in healthcare facilities.”
Adams is now one of Dr. Zucker’s top advisors.
The report included the deaths that occurred inside and outside of nursing homes:
The initial version of the report submitted to Mr. Cuomo’s team for review included both data on deaths of nursing-home residents in hospitals and deaths of residents inside nursing homes, people familiar with the report’s production said.
While health department officials agreed to remove that data, they resisted Cuomo aides’ requests to alter the report to play down the role of the March 25 directive in the spread of the virus, some of the people said.
The report as published concluded that the directive was “not a significant factor in nursing home fatalities.”
“Covid task force officials did not request that the report conclude the March 25 order played no role,” Ms. Garvey said in a statement. “Task force members, knowing the report needed to withstand rigorous public scrutiny were very cautious to not overstate the statistical analysis presented in the report. Overall, ensuring public confidence in the conclusion was the ultimate goal of DOH and the Covid task force in issuing the report.”
Cuomo and his administration consistently pushed back against claims that his March 2020 order caused unnecessary elderly deaths. To make matters worse, those people died without being able to say goodbye to family members.
The narrative crumbled in January after Attorney General Letitia James’s office discovered Cuomo’s policies probably killed more people than everyone originally thought, especially the March mandate.
DeRosa then admitted to Democrat lawmakers that they hid the nursing home data to avoid President Donald Trump’s attention.
In February, the Times Union reported that the FBI and U.S. attorney’s office in Brooklyn launched an investigation into the nursing home deaths.

The Democratic leader of New York’s Senate called for Gov. Andrew Cuomo to resign Sunday amid mounting allegations of sexual harassment and undercounting COVID-19 deaths in nursing homes.
Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins added her voice to a growing number of Cuomo’s foes and allies who believe the three-term Democrat should step down.
Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, also a Democrat, stopped short of echoing Stewart-Cousins but said in a statement that “it is time for the Governor to seriously consider whether he can effectively meet the needs of the people of New York.”

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have accused the Cuomo administration of engaging in a ‘criminal conspiracy’ following a bombshell report alleging they stripped data on nursing home deaths from a public report.

Republican state Assemblyman Mike Lawler has called on Andrew Cuomo to resign.
“It’s very clear the Cuomo admin understood their March 25th order had contributed to the death toll [and] they wanted to cover it up to avoid political fallout, plain and simple,” he tweeted.

And it's not just that I've been worn down by the demands of life during the pandemic, in which women have been forced to balance multiple stress- and anxiety-inducing roles, including but not limited to public safety enforcer, social distancer-in-chief, ever-productive worker drone, remote learning supervisor, primary child care provider, home office-and-remote-school space designer, vaccine procurer and head chef. Meanwhile, even amidst the lockdown juggle, I’m also emotionally run ragged by the continuing parade of men who are revealed to be sexual harassers, predators, handsy dudes and lechers — plenty of whom are in the public eye.
In other words, I’m suffering creep fatigue.
And, though the stories over the last few months about Shia LaBeouf and Woody Allen and Burger Records and Chris D'Elia and Reps. Madison Cawthorn, R-N.C., and Ronny Jackson, R-Texas, have certainly contributed, the last straw, for me, was New York's Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

She accused Cuomo of inappropriately touching her at the governor’s mansion last year – after she’d been called there for work, the Albany Times Union reported.
The paper said it was withholding the accuser’s name "because she could not be reached for comment."
But she reportedly works as a staffer in the Executive Chamber, the state’s version of a cabinet.
Cuomo's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The latest claim is the sixth accusation leveled at the governor -- and the fifth from someone who was working for the governor at the time of the alleged incident.

Another woman is accusing New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo of workplace misconduct, a newspaper reported Tuesday.
The details of the allegations weren’t immediately clear, but the Times Union of Albany reported Tuesday that the woman said Cuomo inappropriately touched her late last year at the governor’s mansion, where she had been summoned to work.
The newspaper didn’t reveal her identity or detail what type of touching was alleged to have taken place. It did not speak to the woman. The paper cited “an official close to the matter” as confirming the existence of the complaint.

The media and Democrat party's failure to cover the nursing home scandal early on, putting him on a pedestal, giving him an award, etc. is almost as big of a scandal as him being responsible for the death of all of those poor elderly folks.
What's a shame is they are now using these sexual harassment allegations as an excuse to get rid of him, when the real reason he needs to go is what he did to those old folks, and then covering it up. If he was a Republican this would already have been in front of a grand jury with an indictment.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio called for an investigation into the head of Gov. Andrew Cuomo's vaccination program, who had reportedly called county executives to see if they support Cuomo during his multiple scandals.
According to The Washington Post, "vaccine czar" Larry Schwartz made the calls that made at least one county official fear that their response could jeopardize the county's ability to get vaccines and would impact the vaccine supply.
"What we've heard about the governor and his team trying to link vaccine supply to political support, that is the definition of corruption," de Blasio said during a Monday press briefing. "It is disgusting, it is dangerous. There are lives on the line, and it cannot be tolerated."
The mayor went on to call for an investigation of what happened with Schwartz's calls, in addition to the multiple ongoing probes Cuomo is facing.
"There needs to be now a full investigation of that, on top of the investigation of nursing home scandal, the investigation of sexual harassment and molestation," de Blasio said. "There needs to be an investigation of what happened with the Tappan Zee Bridge, but now on top of it there needs to be an investigation of why a senior official in the governor’s office clearly tried to link vaccine supply to political support."

My guess is the investigation with Cuomo will find no credible evidence and he'll get off like Biden did.
IMO, this is a distraction to the cover up he did with the nursing homes. This is harder to prove, but I hope they don't forget to investigate that situation as well.

Judges would join the state Senate in hearing an impeachment trial
New York lawmakers are preparing an impeachment investigation of Gov. Andrew Cuomo, but should they vote to hold a trial, the outcome will be determined in part by the state's seven Court of Appeals judges — all of whom were appointed by Cuomo himself.
Unlike federal impeachment trials, where only the Senate votes on the verdict, New York impeachment trials add Court of Appeals judges to the mix.
The court for the trial of impeachments shall be composed of the president of the senate, the senators, or the major part of them, and the judges of the court of appeals, or the major part of them," the state constitution reads.
Those Court of Appeals judges are Rowan Wilson, Jenny Rivera, Leslie Stein, Eugene Fahey, Michael Garcia, Paul Feinman and Chief Judge Janet DiFiore. All of them were appointed by Cuomo between the years of 2013 and 2017.
"They're mostly liberal," former State Assembly Republican leader John Faso told Newsmax. "Very liberal. And they are all Democrats except one."
The seven judges could be instrumental in determining the outcome of a potential impeachment trial as they would make up 10% of the 70-person impeachment court, joining the 63 state senators.
Senate Majority Leader Andrew Stewart-Cousins told reporters that while she believes there is a majority that supports Cuomo's resignation, she had not looked into how her colleagues feel about impeachment.

FBI Investigating Whether Cuomo Aides Gave False Data on Nursing Homes
A federal investigation into Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s handling of nursing homes during the pandemic has focused in recent weeks on whether the governor and his senior aides provided false data on resident deaths to the Justice Department, according to four people with knowledge of the investigation.
Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation have contacted lawyers for Mr. Cuomo’s aides, interviewed senior officials from the state Health Department and subpoenaed Mr. Cuomo’s office for documents related to the disclosure of data last year, the people said.
The interviews have included questions about information New York State submitted last year to the Justice Department, which had asked the state for data on Covid-19 cases and deaths in nursing homes, according to the people. False statements in such a submission could constitute a crime.

Trump was not on tape "admitting that he grabbed women." His specific comment was: "I don't even wait. And when you're a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. ... Grab 'em by the pussy. You can do anything." That's not an admission of anything. And if you know anything about groupies, you know it's actually a true statement. Also, it was a comment he made in 2005, 16 years ago, and 11 years before it was first used as a political hit job in 2016. It's beyond irrelevant to anything having to do with Cuomo killing old folks and allegedly harassing his staff.
But when you suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome, you latch on to any kind of red herring to detract attention away from bad acts by anyone other than Trump. He's not the president anymore. He has nothing to do with Cuomo.
Actually, I take that back. Trump sent two hospital ships to New York, which could have been used to hold elderly Covid positive patients. If Cuomo would have used those ships instead of forcing nursing homes to accept them, he wouldn't have killed thousands of old folks.

I live in Florida, I'm not a fan of Ron. Having said that... I have evolved in my position on Covid. Initially I was all about social distancing, Masks, limiting exposure. But living in Florida and being in a tourist location I have seen first hand how government "rules" aren't worth the paper they are written on and people are going to do pretty much what they want. Desantos was one of the firsts to open up, and during the peak of the pandemic I've walked past bars that were packed with people acting like Covid didn't exist. At first it bothered me greatly because I keep up with the Covid data and know when Florida is spiking and how dangerous it is. But after months of seeing people from out of state coming here because they know they can act like Covid doesn't exist and our government goes along with it I adopted the "Screw the ignorant jerks, I'll just fend for myself" attitude. It has been a great relief. I can now walk past overfilled bars knowing people in there will likely either die, or transmit the disease to elderly loved ones upon their return to states that take it seriously and they will die and sleep like a baby knowing they had access to all the information I had access to and chose to ignore it. In the end it will likely mean less Republican voters which can't be a bad thing. Maybe God has a hand in this.. who knows..

It turns out we have Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Parole Board to thank for that grotesque attack on a 65-year-old woman as she walked to church in Midtown Manhattan.
The Monday morning assault in front of 360 West 43rd St. definitely counts as a hate crime, as police sources say the attacker yelled “F–k you, you don’t belong here” as he punched and kicked his Asian-American victim.
But the folks blaming “white supremacy” are out of luck here; New York’s rush to empty its jails and prisons has a lot more to do with it.
Arrested for the attack Wednesday morning was Brandon Elliot, 38, who was out on parole. And the crime that put him in prison was stabbing his own mother to death in 2002.
Sentenced to 15 years to life, he was denied parole twice, in February 2017 and again in December 2018. But Gov. Cuomo has been steadily packing the Parole Board with softies who regularly spring even heinous cop-killers and terrorists, so eventually Elliot got freed, too, albeit on lifetime parole.
Not that the “reformers” seem to care what happens post-prison: He wound up in a city hotel-turned-homeless shelter. And it’s pretty clear that Mayor Bill de Blasio’s ThriveNYC didn’t get him any mental-health help: Neighbors report that he’s been a scary presence on the streets for a while now.

Lifelines like unemployment insurance and federal stimulus checks were out of reach because undocumented people are ineligible for most government aid. Instead, they have relied on food pantries, lenient landlords and loans from friends.
But after a sweeping move by lawmakers this week, New York will now offer one-time payments of up to $15,600 to undocumented immigrants who lost work during the pandemic. The effort — a $2.1 billion fund in the state budget — is by far the biggest of its kind in the country and a sign of the state’s shift toward policies championed by progressive Democrats.
“I’ve met neighbors who have not been able to pay rent, or put food on the table, or been able to provide their children with a laptop when a public school has not been able to provide one,” said State Senator Jessica Ramos, a Democrat from Queens and lead proponent of the fund.
New York’s fund dwarfs a similar relief program enacted in California, where officials set up a $75 million cash assistance program last year that gave undocumented immigrants a $500 one-time payment on a first-come, first-served basis.
It is hard to quantify the number of undocumented families living in New York, but the left-leaning Fiscal Policy Institute said Wednesday that the fund could benefit as many as 290,000 people statewide.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s coverup of nursing-home COVID deaths was even worse than we’d thought: It turns out his Department of Health started collecting the key data a full year ago — even as it kept the info secret in defiance of lawmakers’ rights as well as the Freedom of Information Law.
A DOH memo obtained by The Post shows the department began ordering care homes to report both in-home and in-hospital deaths of residents last April. Yet for nine months Team Cuomo refused to share it, with Health Commissioner Howard Zucker insulting legislators with bogus claims the info wasn’t accurate enough to release and other staffers falsely claiming they couldn’t compile the info to comply with FOIL requests from the Empire Center.
In January, Attorney General Tish James finally called out the clear signs that total deaths were half again what Team Cuomo was pretending — and only then did DOH release the true tally.
The conspiracy was all about hiding the evidence of a deadly scandal: Zucker’s March 25, 2020, order forced homes to admit COVID-contagious patients without even testing them. That clearly led to needless deaths, as the Empire Center’s analysis revealed once it finally had the data.
Meanwhile, the gov’s top people conspired to bully health professionals into pulling the truth from last July’s DOH report that (falsely) claimed to prove that the order was harmless.
The Cuomoites even concealed the truth from federal health officials — a deception that may have cost even more lives by leading to false scientific conclusions.
And even now, all the public has from the gov is a callous “Who cares?” about where the elderly infected died.

New York and California, another Democratic stronghold, each lost a seat following the release Monday of the 2020 Census report.
However, finding 89 uncounted residents will be a difficult task, according to Politico. New York has unsuccessfully challenged previous Census results in the Supreme Court.
"New York has challenged the Census before over undercounting from the 1970s through the 2000s, and each time, the Supreme Court has rebuffed the state’s efforts," said New York Law School senior fellow Jeff Wice. "Massachusetts and Utah have also challenged the apportionments … and they’ve also had their lawsuits rejected."
Cuomo blamed what he thinks was an undercount on former President Trump and said the federal government had a "chilling effect" on undocumented residents who were nervous to come forward last year and be counted.
Other states that lost House seats include Illinois, Michigan and Ohio, while Texas gained two and Florida, Montana and North Carolina were among states to each gain one seat.

ALBANY, NY—Governor Andrew Cuomo is disappointed after census data revealed his state had lost thousands of citizens, causing New York to lose a seat in the House of Representatives.
"Yeah, I guess I shouldn't have murdered 15,000 elderly residents in nursing homes by forcing them to admit COVID patients," said the governor in between bites of his spicy meatball sub. "Maybe, in hindsight, I could have done better."
"Or at least, maybe if I could have gotten 89 more of those old people to fill out a census form before dying I could have prevented this." Cuomo then finished his meatball sub and began plowing into a large bowl of spaghetti.
Critics of the governor insisted that 15,000 precious human lives were worth infinitely more than just a seat in Congress, but Cuomo was unable to hear them due to chewing his food too loudly.
Cuomo is promising new initiatives to ensure more people fill out the census as they should in order to counteract all the people dying and leaving his state in record numbers.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a bill expanding felon voting rights on Tuesday, according to the state legislature, allowing for people on parole in the state to be eligible to vote as soon as they leave prison.
The law codifies a 2018 executive order that allowed for Cuomo to individually pardon parolees. According to the bill text, Department of Corrections officials are required to provide a voter registration form as the felon is leaving the facility. Previously, parolees would have to wait a period of four to six weeks to receive a pardon and then must register to vote on their own.
The law goes into effect immediately, although some portions are delayed until 120 days after its signing, according to the bill text. The New York legislature passed the bill in April.

The federal government’s count of the COVID-19 death toll in New York has 11,000 more victims than the tally publicized by the administration of Gov. Andrew Cuomo, which has stuck with a far more conservative approach to counting virus deaths.
The discrepancy in death counts continued to widen this year, according to an Associated Press review, even as the Democrat has come under fire over allegations that his office purposely obscured the number of deaths of nursing home residents to protect his reputation.
New York state’s official death count, presented daily to the public and on the state’s Department of Health website, stood at around 43,000 this week. But the state has provided the federal government with data that shows roughly 54,000 people have died with COVID-19 as a cause or contributing factor listed on their death certificate.
“It’s a little strange,” said Bob Anderson, chief of the Mortality Statistics Branch at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Health Statistics. “They’re providing us with the death certificate information so they have it. I don’t know why they wouldn’t use those numbers.”
Such a discrepancy can fuel distrust in government tallies of COVID-19 deaths, while making it harder for individuals to know why others in their community died in the pandemic, experts say....

U.S. Justice Department Declines To Open Probe Into Cuomo's Handling Of COVID-19 In Nursing Homes
The U.S. Department of Justice will not pursue an investigation into whether Governor Andrew Cuomo's controversial nursing home policy during the early days of the pandemic violated civil rights, according to a letter the agency sent to federal legislators demanding a probe.
An attorney with the DOJ's Civil Rights Division broke the news in a letter to Republican Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise, ranking member of the House Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis. The agency had sought information determining whether Cuomo violated the Civil Rights of Institutionalized Persons Act after issuing an executive order in March 2020 requiring state-run nursing homes to accept coronavirus patients that were charged from hospitals. It remains unclear whether the order directly led to the virus spreading inside nursing homes, resulting in deaths. In July last year, health officials released a state-sponsored study denying that the policy led to increased fatalities inside nursing homes.

Human Rights Campaign (HRC) President Alphonso David allegedly helped leak the confidential personnel file of a former aide to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) who accused the state leader of sexual harassment.
That allegation was detailed in a report released by New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) Tuesday, following an independent probe of accusations brought forth by several women. The report found that Cuomo sexually harassed several women in violation of federal and state law.
The probe also stated that Cuomo’s aides took steps “intended to discredit and disparage” Lindsey Boylan, the first former Cuomo staffer to publicly accuse the governor of sexual harassment, by leaking negative information about her to the media.
David was a counselor to Cuomo in 2018 when Boylan resigned after Cuomo allegedly kissed her without her consent. David kept Boylan’s confidential information, including workplace complaints about her, when he left Cuomo’s office to become president of HRC in 2019, according to James's report.
After Boylan publicly accused Cuomo of sexual harassment last year, David allegedly shared Boylan’s personnel file with a top Cuomo adviser, who then leaked the information to several reporters.
"The evidence obtained in our investigation revealed that the complainants' fears of retaliation were justified," James’s report states.
The bombshell report states that David helped prepare a plan to discredit another accuser, in which Cuomo would call her and secretly record their conversation.

Days after the first accusation of misconduct surfaced last year against New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo (D), his staff began reaching out to a prominent advocate for sexual harassment victims and the head of the largest gay rights group for guidance as they mulled how to discredit his accuser.
This week, an independent investigation commissioned by New York Attorney General Letitia James found that the subsequent effort by the governor’s office to undermine the credibility of former Cuomo adviser Lindsey Boylan — by leaking her private employee records and circulating a draft of a letter that impugned her credibility — amounted to “unlawful retaliation.”
Attorney Roberta Kaplan, a co-founder of Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund, and Alphonso David, the president of the Human Rights Campaign, are now facing questions about their role in Cuomo’s aggressive effort to fight back against his accusers.
Kaplan is described in the attorney general’s report as conferring with Time’s Up President Tina Tchen at the request of a Cuomo adviser about the appropriateness of the letter Cuomo’s aides were preparing to release that pushed back on Boylan by, among other things, attacking her political motivations and denying the legitimacy of her claims. It was big news on Tuesday, but it’s not Tuesday anymore. It’s Thursday, and by the weekend, any push to remove grabby, groping Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York will be completely memory-holed by the left. So if you were thinking that grabbing subordinates' butts or boobs was a surefire way to exile in the Democrat Party…you haven’t been paying attention. There really isn’t anything for which they’ll hold their own accountable, unless it ultimately benefits them in the immediate, and holding Cuomo answerable for his actions does not.
Former Democrat Governor of Louisiana Edwin Edwards famously joked with reporters before one of his elections that “The only way I can lose this election is if I'm caught in bed with either a dead girl or a live boy.” He wasn’t caught with either and won, though he was eventually convicted on 17 counts of corruption and did some time.
Things were different then, way back in late 1990s and early 2000s. Back then, Democrats couldn’t count on uniform party loyalty to look past anything anyone of them did. Believe it or not, there were many Democrats who were critical of former President Bill Clinton committing perjury and obstructing justice, at least at the start. By the time Clinton and the gang dragged out the process with lies and distractions, the party did get back in line and was uniform.
That kind of set the mold for today – if they’re on “your team,” they can do no wrong for which they should be punished. This isn’t uniform, of course, sometimes sacrifices must be made. Al Franken was forced out the Senate not because Democrats cared that he was a handsy douche, but because the “Me Too” movement was rolling and they’d hoped to weaponize it against Republicans. It didn’t really work out, it mostly ensnared Democrats, but they had to continue to pretend Republicans were waging a “war on women!” so he and a few others had to go.
What Andrew Cuomo is alleged to have done is way worse than Franken, it’s on par with what Joe Biden was credibly accused of by Tara Reade. Neither allegation interested the media when they were made, only being covered grudgingly so they could say they’d done it and quickly forgotten. Actually, what Cuomo is accused of is only as bad as Biden based on volume, the specifics of Biden’s assault on Reade are worse.
It didn’t matter, no one in the media cared. The Biden story was barely a sparse week of casual reporting where it was mostly dismissed. Cuomo’s allegations were numerous, with attractive accusers, all of whom support liberal politics and policies. They were serious, professional women who had no political axe to grind, they were on team Cuomo…until. They were made for TV. But TV wasn’t interested.
The people who happily put someone like E. Jean Carroll, who called rape “sexy,” on their airwaves because she was accusing Donald Trump of assault 25 years prior had no interest in young women telling how Cuomo grabbed, kissed, or propositioned them recently. “Believe all women” became “Yeah, yeah, now just shut up.”
Cuomo was the media’s creation – they made him their anti-Trump. His daily press briefings were followed by refractory periods pretending to be analysis. They ignored his slaughter of 15,000 senior citizens from his COVID nursing home order. They ignored his abuse of staff to write his book while he raked in more than $5 million. And they moved on from his accusers’ stories every time a new one came forward. They don’t give a damn.
Calls for his resignation faded. The “impeachment” inquiry that was talked about when the allegations emerged simply disappeared. There is no reason to think this time will be any different.
The Attorney General of New York announced Cuomo was guilty of many crimes, then announced she’d charge him with none of them. If the chief law enforcement officer in the state won’t enforce the law, who will? Biden said he should resign, but that’ll likely be the only time he ever speaks on the matter. So the employee lounge isn’t awkward, CNN won’t cover the story for more than a couple of days. The New York Times ran an editorial calling on him to resign, so they’ve checked the box and will quickly move on too.
Virginia still has Governor “Blackface” Ralph Northam, and all these same people called for him to resign when his past was exposed. The Lt. Gov. of the state, a guy named Justin Fairfax, is still on the job too, after he was credibly accused by two women of rape. If those two can survive by simply outlasting the outrage (which, frankly, thanks to their party affiliation only lasted about a week), Cuomo will easily survive. If you’re a Democrat and politically useful to the party, you can pretty much do anything you want and get away with it.
And remember ladies, Governor Cuomo is single and ready to mingle…whether you want to mingle with him or not.

"I was waiting for him to say, you know I’m gonna stick it through because I believe I’m innocent...and instead he said he was resigning—and I’m in shock, I’m not going to lie," Dean said as her voice wavered.
On Monday, Dean and her family attended the memorial service for her in-laws who died inside a New York nursing home during the height of the pandemic.
"A lot of us were talking about maybe yesterday when there was the memorial for my in-laws that maybe he would resign, you know some kind of divine intervention—and it happened the day after," Dean recalled.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Delivering another blow to what’s left of former Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s legacy, New York’s new governor acknowledged on her first day in office that the state has had nearly 12,000 more deaths from COVID-19 than Cuomo told the public.
“The public deserves a clear, honest picture of what’s happening. And that’s whether it’s good or bad, they need to know the truth. And that’s how we restore confidence,” Gov. Kathy Hochul said on NPR.
In its first daily update on the outbreak Tuesday evening, Hochul’s office reported that nearly 55,400 people have died of the coronavirus in New York based on death certificate data submitted to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
That’s up from about 43,400 that Cuomo reported to the public as of Monday, his last day in office. The Democrat who was once widely acclaimed for his leadership during the COVID-19 outbreak resigned in the face of an impeachment drive after being accused of sexually harassing at least 11 women, allegations he disputed.
The higher number is not entirely new. Federal health officials and some academic institutions tracking COVID-19 deaths in the U.S. have been using the higher tally for many months because of known gaps in the data Cuomo had been choosing to publicize.
But Hochul, who was lieutenant governor before being propelled to the state’s highest office, said it is vital to be fully transparent about the numbers.
“There’s a lot of things that weren’t happening, and I’m going to make them happen,” she said Wednesday on MSNBC. “Transparency will be the hallmark of my administration.”
Cuomo’s lawyer Rita Glavin and his campaign staff did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The Associated Press first reported in July on the large discrepancy between the figures publicized by the Cuomo administration and numbers the state was reporting to the CDC.
The count used by Cuomo in his news media briefings and on the s tate’s COVID-19 fatality tracker included only laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 deaths reported through a state system that collects data from hospitals, nursing homes and adult care facilities.
That meant the tally excluded people who died at home, in hospice, in prisons or at state-run homes for people with disabilities. It also excluded people who probably died of COVID-19 but never got a positive test to confirm the diagnosis.
“There are presumed and confirmed deaths. People should know both,” Hochul said.
By Wednesday, the state’s website included the higher tally.
During the spring of 2020, when New York was the deadliest hot spot in the U.S., Cuomo emerged in the eyes of many Americans as a hero of the pandemic for his daily PowerPoint briefings and stern but reassuring language. He won an international Emmy and wrote a book on leadership in a crisis.
But Cuomo’s critics long charged that he was manipulating coronavirus statics to burnish his image. Months later, it turned out that his administration had minimized the death toll among nursing home residentsby excluding several thousand who had succumbed after being transferred to hospitals.
Cuomo used those lower numbers last year to erroneously claim that New York was seeing a much smaller percentage of nursing home residents dying of COVID-19 than other states.
Federal prosecutors have been investigating his administration’s handling of the data. The state Assembly Judiciary committee has also been investigating the matter.
This week, in the wake of the sexual harassment scandal, Cuomo’s Emmy was revoked. And the publisher of his book has said it will no longer print hardcover copies and will not come out with a paperback edition.

Tuesday’s vote means Cuomo will have to apply again for approval for his book deal.
McNamara and other commissioners have said they want to claw back at least some of Cuomo’s book deal proceeds.
It’s unclear whether the state could go after all the proceeds: Cuomo netted $1.5 million on the book last year, and donated $500,000 to the United Way of New York State and the rest into a trust for his three daughters.
Violations of the state’s public officers law can lead to up to $10,000 fines and the value of any “compensation or benefit received as a result of such violation.”

ALBANY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — The New York State Assembly Judiciary Committee released the findings of its investigation into former Gov. Andrew Cuomo Monday.
The investigation covered not only the sexual harassment case brought by Attorney General Letitia James, but also COVID-19 nursing home deaths, questions about whether Cuomo’s staff improperly worked on his book, and allegations he covered up safety concerns at the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge.
“We conclude that there is overwhelming evidence that the former governor engaged in sexual harassment,” the investigators wrote.
They say they’ve reviewed more than 600,000 pages of documents, including text messages, emails and more.
As CBS2’s political reporter Marcia Kramer reports, it was a dramatic slap in the face for the once-powerful chief executive who rose to national prominence on the strength of his handling of the pandemic.
There are many disturbing findings in the long-awaited Assembly Judiciary Committee report: Salacious details about his workplace conduct, clear evidence he forced underlings to work on his book on company time and underreporting of nursing home deaths.
Kramer asked Assembly Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles Lavine what would have happened to Cuomo had he not quit.
“I know you say that, under the constitution, since he resigned, he couldn’t be impeached. Had he not resigned, would this report have led to his impeachment?” Kramer asked.
“I believe it would have,” Lavine said.
Lavine is talking about the exhaustive report about Cuomo’s behavior in office that involved interviews and depositions from more than 200 people, ranging from the women he is accused of sexually harassing, to top aides, like secretary to the governor Melissa DeRosa, whose job also included a role as “the key point person” between the governor and the publisher of his book on the pandemic.
Lavine said the combination of the sexual harassment, the controversial book deal and a finding he undercounted nursing home deaths “are all factors that result in Governor Cuomo being unfit for office.”
Although much has been made about the groping incident involving aide Brittany Commisso, equally disturbing are the details of how he harassed others who worked for him.
The report said a female state trooper told investigators that Cuomo “touched her inappropriately on multiple occasions — including by running his finger slowly down her spine, running his hand across her stomach, kissing and making numerous inappropriate and offensive comments to her.”
Cuomo then told her “not to tell ‘anyone about [their] conversations.'”
He is also accused of making sexually inappropriate comments to a doctor and former state health officials before and after the doctor gave him a COVID test during a television press event in May 2020 – some of the behavior blatantly public.
“You make that gown look nice,” Cuomo said during the event.
Gov. Kathy Hochul, who moved up from lieutenant governor after Cuomo resigned, insisted her administration is not run like an old boy’s locker room.
“We’ve changed the culture from day one. A culture of transparency, accountability and ensuring that everyone feels respected in the workforce. So anyone who works for our administration knows that it’s a whole new day, and I’m proud of that,” Hochul said.
In their conclusion, the authors said Cuomo:
Engaged in multiple instances of sexual harassment, including by creating a hostile work environment and engaging in sexual misconduct
Utilized state resources and property, including work by Executive Chamber staff, to write, publish, and promote his Book regarding his handling of the COVID-19 crisis – a project for which he was guaranteed at least $5.2 million in personal profit; and at the same time
Was not fully transparent regarding the number of nursing home residents who died as a result of COVID-19.
“As noted, we are mindful of the ongoing law enforcement interests into several of the matters covered in this report. We have prepared this report with those interests in mind and we are cooperating with any such investigations,” they wrote.
Cuomo’s spokesperson issued a statement in response to the report, calling it “hypocritical” and “revisionist:”

Any report that uses the Attorney General’s politically biased investigation as a basis is going to be equally flawed. To date we have not been allowed the opportunity to review evidence in the Assembly’s possession, despite requests to do so and due process was certainly not afforded here.
Once again, the fact that an employee entered and exited the Executive Mansion as part of her job was never in dispute and once again this report offers no evidence to support any allegation. What is interesting is that the Assembly didn’t even try to prove Tish James’ bogus “11 legal violations,” and instead only focused on two. When all the facts are fairly weighed there will be none.
To be clear, the people who volunteered to work on the book were people mentioned in the book and therefore they were involved to make sure the representations concerning them were accurate. Staff who volunteered took time off, evidencing that they were volunteering and not on state time. Any suggestion to the contrary is Assembly hype. The people who volunteered were senior members in the administration and were highly sophisticated in terms of official activities and volunteer activities and had performed both many times in the past. During the time period in question Robert Mujica, Beth Garvey, James Malatras, Melissa DeRosa, Gareth Rhodes, and Stephanie Benton, all mentioned in the book, reviewed it at no cost to the state. Junior staff working on Covid materials were not helping on the book, but were helping on the state’s Covid response.
The Assembly report is hypocritical, revisionist and damns themselves as the Assembly effectively forces employees to volunteer on their political partisan campaigns as standard practice and if they want to debate it we welcome it. Let them start by disclosing which staffers also do political work. Will the Judiciary committee members that raised the issue disclose their staff members who volunteer to work on their campaigns and if not why not?
They apparently couldn’t find a similar distraction from priority testing after we pointed out the hypocrisy that multiple Assembly members, including members of this very committee, along with staff and family members, were provided testing when asked. That’s why the matter was dropped altogether from the report. However, the Assembly’s duplicity must not be allowed to go unanswered. They must disclose what members, staff and family members received priority testing. They were highly critical of priority testing, but are now silent on who in their house received such testing. They must stop their cover-up.
The conclusions that the DOH report on nursing home COVID transmissions was accurate, that there was no evidence that the March 25 order resulted in additional fatalities and that we received constant reassurances from the Thruway Authority that the bridge was safe by no means suggests that this was a fair and balanced report.
The truth will come out.

This is not the final chapter in the Cuomo saga. The U.S. Attorney in Brooklyn is investigating Cuomo, as are several district attorneys, including Westchester prosecutors who are reportedly looking at the allegation made by the state trooper.
Cuomo is also facing criminal charges stemming from an allegation he groped Commisso at the executive mansion in 2019.
Last week, the New York state Joint Commission on Public Ethics voted to rescind its approval of Cuomo’s $5.1 book deal.

Will try to adjust the tone of this to the discussion we're having in the other thread.
I believe in personal accountability. Yes, Trump said a lot of inflammatory/stupid things. But it was the people's reaction to him that was completely off the wall. People took shortcomings they had, and focused it all on him. Rational people behaved insane. Add in Covid, and it became more of a disaster. If people logged off Twitter and Facebook, and went about their lives, they'd notice (outside of covid, of course) that their lives were pretty unchanged by Trump.
But the media and the democrats knowingly fueled this divisiveness. Articles in the Washington post said the impeachment process started on DAY ONE. Trump couldn't even get credit for having a hot wife FFS.
Look at it this way. Peter Doocy from Fox questions Psaki and the line of questioning ends with him, and it goes to easy stuff. With Trump, Acosta would be combative, and that subject line of questioning would cascade to every other reporter asking questions. It was a 24/7 onslaught.
Because of this, there was no way everyone would flip the switch and go about their day when Biden took over, just a pendulum swing.

ALBANY, N.Y. — Former Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo was ordered to turn over roughly $5.1 million in proceeds from his 2020 pandemic memoir within 30 days, after a state ethics board found that he had run afoul of state ethics laws.
The board, the Joint Commission on Public Ethics, directed Mr. Cuomo on Tuesday to relinquish the money to the state attorney general’s office, and authorized the office to enforce the collection.
Mr. Cuomo has vowed to fight the resolution, which owing to its unique circumstance would seem to have little precedent, in court. “JCOPE’s actions today are unconstitutional, exceed its own authority and appear to be driven by political interests rather than the facts and the law,” said Jim McGuire, a lawyer for Mr. Cuomo. “Should they seek to enforce this action, we’ll see them in court.”
The order, which is sure to set up a protracted legal fight, could be complicated by the fact that Mr. Cuomo already donated $500,000 of the book’s proceeds to charity, and placed another $1 million in a trust for his daughters.

This is the commission’s latest attempt to litigate the approval of Mr. Cuomo’s pandemic memoir, “American Crisis: Leadership Lessons from the Covid-19 Pandemic.”
The ethics panel previously found that Mr. Cuomo misrepresented the subject of the book, and how far along it was, in his request.
