Construction workers and bodybuilding
« on: June 20, 2008, 01:47:59 PM »
Some of us on here work long hot hours outside in construction...but also bodybuild. 8)

Do you find it difficult to maintain your 6 meals, 4-5 workouts a week, and recovery, while working grueling hours in the sun. :o

I'm curious what you guys think about this.

If you want, you could post pics to show your development despite having to work outside in the construction. 8)

Thanks guys

I'm off to dinner and movie with my finacee...I hope to see some good replies when i get back later.

Very hard to do this, I worked for a masonry company as a laborer throughout college and I would bring protein shakes and oats for lunch and all of the rest of the crew would make fun of me, telling me to eat a whopper have a cigarette lol...and on top of it, their goal was to make me work so hard so that I couldn't workout after work, just to bust my balls. Impossible to eat every 2 hours when doing this type of work, especially the company I worked for...our lunch breaks were only 25 minutes, then back to work, but I  tell you my forearms and shoulders, were never stronger, bigger, and more ripped then when I did this type of work, it's lifting for 8-10 hrs a day.

I work construction and find it harder to get through a workout at the end of the day especially if its a hard day. Also i think i work harder on my off days and the days i am goin to the gym i try not to burn out at work, conserve some energy for the gym. Food is also a problem because i cant eat too often and do the kind of work i do, its fine in the summer but when im trying to gain weight its a pain.

A friend of mine is a framer and he started to bring a cooler to work with some bodybuilding type foods (chicken, rice etc). That only lasted a few days before he got back on the Long John Silvers and Burger King. He would get real hungry after a couple hours of the bodybuilding type foods. When you are out in that hot Texas sun lifting heavy ass boards you need alot of calories, plain and simple.

True, but they don't work for $14 an hour and have a screwed up back by the age of 35 with no benefits.

What about guys that come from nothing, work construction up til their early 30's move into ownership and then become millionaires? I think that is even more respectable than some smart guy working an office job.

Yeah but the average constr. worker is high before work, starts drinking at his first break and only has a few "good" teeth left. He drives a 93 camaro with a temp sticker in the windo etc.etc.etc........
