"The pledges were vaguely-worded and did not represent an advance on similar agreements between their two countries over past decades."

“President Trump committed to provide security guarantees to the DPRK, and Chairman Kim Jong-un reaffirmed his firm and unwavering commitment to complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.”

Previous agreements in 1994 and 2005 contained very similar promises, but they broke down over difference of interpretation, and spats over verification."

https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2018/jun/12/trump-kim-summit-meeting-singapore-us-president-north-korea-kim-jong-un-

it's good news nonetheless. but the two driving forces that resulted in this "summit", were the election of a pro reconciliation president in SK and NK's successful nuclear weapon program . they are the two main factors that forced a US president to meet kim jong.

as said previously it is clear there is now a great will for peace between the 2 koreas but any lasting end to hostilities will be despite the US rather than thanks to it. and remember again to take note of the wording. every time NK release that statement it's always "committed to a complete denuclearization of the PENINSULA...

Give credit where it's due. The US is at least partially responsible for this, don't ya think?

yeh to some extent. but the deal was brokered and announced by kim jong and the new SK president. obviously due to the SK set up no deal could really be done without the US signing off on it.

but all this BS that this is some great achievement by trump and his actions were somehow instrumental in getting things to where they are is pure fiction.

he just happened to be president at a time when there is very strong will from both koreas to end hostilities. nothing more, nothing less. i also doubt very much if this deal will end up holding up. no doubt part of the deal will be for the US to greatly demilitarize SK , something i very much doubt they really want to do.

Hillary Clinton on Trump and North Korea: "I don't see a plan"... He is getting "Played by Kim Jong-un and Putin".
This video is from a segment on CBS "Sunday Morning" in 2017. More proof that Hillary and the Democrats are a walking talking 'Swing and Miss'.

How can you get played by Russia if you were colluding with them?

Video here.

Obama would have bowed to kim and asked how many C-17 loads of cash it would take for north korea to self-inspect their nuclear facilities.

Great and historic day. Props to President Trump for getting it done. Here is the text of the agreement between the U.S. and North Korea:

Convinced that the establishment of new U.S.-DPRK relations will contribute to the peace and prosperity of the Korean Peninsula and of the world, and recognizing that mutual confidence building can promote the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, President Trump and Chairman Kim Jong Un state the following:

1. The United States and the DPRK commit to establish new U.S.-DPRK relations in accordance with the desire of the peoples of the two countries for peace and prosperity.

2. The United States and the DPRK will join their efforts to build a lasting and stable peace regime on the Korean Peninsula.

3. Reaffirming the April 27, 2018 Panmunjom Declaration, the DPRK commits to work toward complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

4. The United States and the DPRK commit to recovering POW/MIA remains, including the immediate repatriation of those already identified.

Having acknowledged that the U.S.-DPRK summit — the first in history — was an epochal event of great significance in overcoming decades of tensions and hostilities between the two countries and for the opening up of a new future, President Trump and Chairman Kim Jong Un commit to implement the stipulations in this joint statement fully and expeditiously. The United States and the DPRK commit to hold follow-on negotiations, led by the U.S. Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, and a relevant high-level DPRK official, at the earliest possible date, to implement the outcomes of the U.S.-DPRK summit.

President Donald J Trump of the United States of America and Chairman Kim Jong Un of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea have committed to cooperate for the development of new U.S.-DPRK relations and for the promotion of peace, prosperity, and security of the Korean Peninsula and of the world.

Straw man drowning in sorrows today.

Hardly

Just hilarious watching Trumptard and his nuthuggers getting playing by Little Rocket Man

Can you tell me what Little Rocket Man agreed to with Trump?

Must have been something pretty tangible for Trump to unilaterally claim to cancel the joint military exercises that we've done for years.

What did Rocket Man agree to in writing to get such a huge concession from Trump?

I'm sure you're aware that North Korea agreed in writing in 1992 to denuclearize?

Quote
Desiring to eliminate the danger of nuclear war through denuclearization of the Korean peninsula ...

1.  The South and the North shall not test, manufacture, produce, receive, possess, store, deploy or use nuclear weapons.

2.  The South and the North shall use nuclear energy solely for peaceful purposes.

3.  The South and the North shall not possess nuclear reprocessing and uranium enrichment facilities.

4.  The South and the North, in order to verify the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, shall conduct inspection of the objects selected by the other side and agreed upon between the two sides, in accordance with procedures and methods to be determined by the South-North Joint Nuclear Control Commission.

5.  The South and the North, in order to implement this joint declaration, shall establish and operate a South-North joint Nuclear Control Commission within one (1) month of the effectuation of this joint declaration.

This Joint Declaration shall enter into force as of the day the two sides exchange appropriate instruments following the completion of their respective procedures for bringing it into effect.

You can say what you want to believe, Moon gave Trump credit for it, someone intimately involved in negotiations, not some yahoo from thousands of miles away.

Quote
Moon praised Trump personally, saying he "made a huge contribution to make inter-Korean talks happen (and) I'd like to express my gratitude.
