WSJ article: Copenhagen Agreement will grant new powers to UN
« on: December 04, 2009, 08:22:08 AM »
This is one of the those WTF moments :o

from the article:
The "scheme for the new institutional arrangement under the Convention" that starts on page 18 contains the provision for a "government." The aim is to give a new as yet unnamed U.N. body the power to directly intervene in the financial, economic, tax and environmental affairs of all the nations that sign the Copenhagen treaty.

The reason for the power grab is clear enough: Clause after complicated clause of the draft treaty requires developed countries to pay an "adaptation debt" to developing countries to supposedly support climate change mitigation. Clause 33 on page 39 says that "by 2020 the scale of financial flows to support adaptation in developing countries must be [at least $67 billion] or [in the range of $70 billion to $140 billion per year]."

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703574604574500580285679074.html

Lord Monckton's speech at Bethel University in MN about the potential consequences of this treaty being signed by the USA. He is a former advisor to Margaret Thatcher, and has been a whistleblower of sorts in talking about the draft treaty.

This document seems too be way out of hand.  Why the f-ck should the U.S pay for technology advances for other countries?  If Obama signs anything like this he is a traitor to the best interest of the American people.  I did not support previous claims that Obama hates this country or is a traitor but if he goes along with an agreement that gives the UN powers over our government and/or makes our tax money go to help 3rd world countries advance their technology to satisfy a climate treaty, then he is clearly putting the interests of the world far in front of the interests of his own country.  That could be labelled a traitor.

What do the liberals on the board think of this?  How much do you care about the sovereignty of this country?

Shoot - just look at the posts from blacken and KC.

They could care less.  They are no different than the religious fanatics they point their fingers at, but worse!

Evidence, facts, reality, fraud, all dont matter.  What matters is that we "Save the Planet" and that their Marxist Messiah and the High Priest Al Gore get a political victory, regardless of how insane, destructive, expensive, and irrational it all is.

kc, blacken, straw....do you favor Obama signing a global climate treaty that gives the U.N power over our government and forces the U.S. to disproportionally contribute large sums of money to help other countries develop green technology?

It's not a snore...we have to see what kind of document they want signed in Copenhagen.  My guess is that Obama will push for global progress but not sign a treaty like this, political suicide.

No, because there are people who are doing anything and everything they can to find or write stories or angles to "fear" people out.

This guy writes this article to get readers motivated by fear and another uses it in a seminar.  But as we found out a month or so ago, it was nothing but fear based dribble.

I could be totally wrong.  But i can't see anyone having the ability to "sign" our country away.  that's silly.

Come on O, you are smarter than that.

What they do is bind us to treaties and agreements that do away with out ability to make our own decisisioons and regulations on a variety of issues.

Such as?

I remember everyone freaking out because Obama was going to sign away or sovereignty.  That's not going to happen and can't happen.  What he did with the nuke treaty however, is an example of what you are saying but what I am talking about is this lame fear mongering campaign of Obama signing away our country.

The problem is that probably left to his own devices he would have no problem doing that.

But he's not.  No president is.  And you are assuming he would based on your own bias which makes that assumption more than flawed.

No I am basing that on his history, speeches, statements, policy positions, associations, etc.

How about this?

Fuck the UN. Far and away the most useless organization on the planet. Exists for no other reason than to give dictators and other psychopaths a podium for spewing their anti-west hate.

I agree, there is some over-reaction but I can see Obama and other leftists signing agreements that force us to spend disproportional amounts of money internationally for "green efforts" in other countries.  I can also see these people having faith in the U.N. and allowing the U.N. to dictate mandates to us which may hurt us economically.  It's not signing away the country but it is giving too much power to the U.N. and putting the interests of others before our own.  Does that make more sense?
