Title: RIP Dad
Post by: Viking11 on March 07, 2014, 10:46:02 AM
I wasn't going to post this. But I do have a few friends on here. My dad died at age 92, one week after we had got here (relocated to be near family, for grad school). He will be missed. In the house, guess we don't need to go apartment hunting as I am the sole survivor (mom and brother passed in 2003 and 2000 respectively. RIP Dad. You are missed.

Sorry to hear this my friend.  92 years is a great run and I am sure your father was greatly appreciative of everything you did with him.  Just focus on the good times and keep your head up.

I'm sorry for your loss.

To live to the ripe old age of 92 can be a blessing. I think your family was blessed to have had him for so long.

Rejoice in the happiness he brought to you and yours.

sorry for your loss, man.   As we age, it's weird how we see SO MUCH of ourselves in our dad, and vice versa.  It's like looking into the future on how you'll age, decisions you make, what will go wrong on your physically, etc.  Dads are the blueprint for us.  I'm glad he had so much time, and hope he showed you the way to be a good man.  He left you awesome genetics for aging, to be sure!!

my dad died when I was a small child.  So I didn't know him.  I worry about how much my death will effect my son as we are soooo close and share a very strong bond.    The father and son relationship is unparalleled by any other

what was his cycle, bro?  ;)

seriously tho, my sincere condolences.

my pops died a couple of years ago at age 83, and still miss the hell out of him, but I tell myself that if you make it to 80 you've lived a full life, and every year after that is a "bonus."  so you were fortunate to have your dad for a dozen extra bonus years.

Thanks all.  He did live his life the way he wanted. Survived the Great Depression, was on WW2 - working n the the top secret radar, was a dance instructor with my mom at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, worked 22 years at the Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena. All very cool stuff. I wish I could tell him that now.
Not selling the house, paid for in Orange County, Calif - less than 10 miles from the school I am going to go got my doctorate, I'd be insane to think about it. He was very conservative- and it worked for him, grew up poor, died probably a miillionaire. Well done Dad. (I wish I did things half as well.)
