It was something called the Turkeysquat haha. It was made up about 10 days before thanksgiving to take place the day before Thanksgiving. It originally started with the #2 and #3 guy talking shit to each other and it developed into a contest I got into. We had barely anytime to prepare for it, but I opened my fat stupid mouth and bet $1,000 against anyone who could beat me so it got a ton of hype going.. no one took the bet though, despite others including people at the gym certain others would win..I won by 5 reps lol.

It definitely got me a bit more motivated to make sure I didn't have to eat my words lol. We drew straws, and I was actually last which was an advantage. I was not stopping until 40+ though. I think this was far from my best though.. I thought I would be at 45-50. I hit a peg in the squat rack and the warm ups were all rushed and screwed up, not that any of this matters at all lol.
I am gonna do a bros vs pros squat challenge whenever it is next. With knee wraps(I didn't use them for this) and time to prepare and train for it, I think I could hit 50.

If you look closely, there is a black band in the cage which was measured at below parallel for us.. I am not saying every squat was perfect though, but if it was a different camera angle I think your opinion would change...
On a side note... Platz is king, I am nowhere close to him and wont be for a very very very long time, if ever.

Brilliant squatting for reps matty,i was doing high rep squats myself last year and got up to 33 with 3 plates,the burn in the lower back,hamstrings and calves is unbearable.Its a struggle to keep breathing when you have that amount of weight on your shoulders for over 3 mins,very impressive.

I thought 20 reps with 245 was hell ... but what the fuck is 315 x 41 reps?! Granted I was 180lbs at same height but still...impressive endurance and cardiovascular system.

Yeah my best real life friend squats 220kg @ 100kg bodyweight, lifetime natural lifter. He also benches 125kg. No one is fucking impressed, everyone says "yeah you've got good squat but your bench suck". If he pressed 170kg and squatted 175kg everyone would be like "wow, you're so great!!!!! awesome strength!!!" and squats wouldn't be even mentioned...

well me myself i try to make these three lifts my best. I might not be massive but as a Nat you got to as you Yanks say get the biggest bang for your Bucks. Never forget that the pulling and pushing muscles have to work in harmony and leg training ..ala Squats is important. of course leg press is also a great leg move. Concentrate on just one move and you could get muscle imbalence, upper body posture will suffer.

Sorry, this is bullshit. The black band is moving because you're hitting it with the back of your ankles, not your bum. Your "very good and legit powerlifter" probably didn't want to stop and straigthen you out once the cameras started rolling. Especially not in the front of a crowd, LOL.

Great job there! I have done sets of (many years ago ;D) 50 reps with 300 and 100 reps with 225.
Squats were my favorite and as the old timers used to say, are the King of exercises.

Thank you all for the comments, positive and negative haha. Branch Warren look a like is Jack Sullivan, owner of the gym and took 2nd at Jr. USAs in 2011. It is an amazing atmosphere there.. tons of competitors and pretty much everyone won their class this year at least and several top 5 finishes at North Americans. Not bad for a small gym in shitty Erie, PA lol. I am about 240lbs in the video at 5'8.
It was the hardest thing I ever did in the gym lol. I felt like shit for an hour after, then for the rest of the night I felt amazing.. Couldn't fall asleep until 3 am.. then woke up and felt like death for the next three days lol.
The guys questioning my depth, can I see any of you personally post a video OF YOURSELVES doing 315x10 of how I SHOULD be doing it. I would appreciate it, so i could reference it.. thank you.

Oh, there is that house just behind Happy Joes...when I was there I saw the dad give his kids some boxing gloves and basically it looked like they were told to duke it out. This was a Saturday. For the next hour they would swing at each other, then the younger one would run in the house. The dad would basically kick him out the front door...the older one would be waiting for him around back. Was fucking hilarious. At one point the older kid was waiting while in a hammock!

I said I bet I could out squat you, you denied the challenge. You said I could be Derek poundstone so you didn't take the bet. After seeing this I question I if could get you or not. haha I remember now actually! You probably could out one rep me now.. The last year or two, I have stuck with higher reps on squat(8-12). The guy who came in third with 36 reps might be able to beat me in a one rep squat as well. I don't do anything crazy or try to these days with the low rep stuff. I definitely appreciate your compliments though! I am always up for a challenge too :p. All in good fun though.. There will always be someone out there stronger than me.

Did you see the first 6 - 7 of them? His ass was touching them. The only you can say is that he maybe wasnt coming up all the way. Regardless of which way you look, its still impressive.

That was an awesome effort Matty. Many, many years ago I did 20 with 315 and it was hell. I also witnessed Tom Platz squatting (in person) on many occasions at Gold’s Venice and I can tell you that he would be the first to acknowledge your great effort. Platz more than anyone, knew when someone was willing to lay it all on the line and that’s what I saw in this clip. They were low enough for a gym contest and low enough to be a tremendous effort. Very well done.

Hell of a lot better than I could do. The best I could get with 315 is about 10 or 11 reps max before my knees feel wobbly and I have to rack the weight. I don't use wraps.

Good enough for a gym contest, ad heard in the video several times, he didn't lock out quite a few reps, but he did awesome. Not alot of guys willing to put that effort in. I did 315x20 once just to see and it sucked, more about endurance which is not as impressive to me as big numbers.

Convict, there's nothing wrong with your legs. Thighs are strong after running from the popo, ankles and calves are flexible from shifting gears on your bike, making angel dust runs, and you knees are solid from sucking prison cock.

I know there is a lot i can improve on and learn from, so I know it isn't perfect at all. Hope to only get better at it :). It was the hardest thing I definitely ever did though in the gym.

I have done 18 with 315. There was no way in hell I was doing anything else that day. My low back was FRIED. Mr. A sounds like the kind of douche I have always said gave us naturals a bad name. Chest thumping screaming about how natural they were to anyone who listened (which was few and far between)

I have done 18 with 315. There was no way in hell I was doing anything else that day. My low back was FRIED. Mr. A sounds like the kind of douche I have always said gave us naturals a bad name. Chest thumping screaming about how natural they were to anyone who listened (which was few and far between)
Ya but you are freak with great genetics and you are probably very close to the limits of any natural so for someone to claim 30 reps naturally when someone like you has only mustered 18, I would say unlikely.

When I was your age, I was 170lbs and squatted 315 for 30, natty, full reps, no belt, no wraps.
So in reality you were 180 lbs and you did 265 for 20. Stop bullshiting, no video = no proof.

The guy in the second video was a very good powerlifter up until injuries sidetracked him. He was a almost #700 squat and puller, low #4's bench. Video is deceiving, he floated between the #242 and #275 classes.
Another interesting squat for reps video is Dr. Ken Leistner's #415 for 23 reps at #165.

He was a high rep animal, his best max at the time was only about #50lbs more.

I wish I had taped it, but vid cameras were very expensive not plentiful in 1986. Not bullshitting. My best with 225lbs was 55 reps. High rep squatting takes incredible focus and a high pain tolerance. Most do not have it.

I have done 315 for 16, ATG squats, lifetime natural and it was pretty difficult. I never trained for high reps but I suppose I could do better if I really focused on it.
