So, you're saying you think that an all black Academy would be just as likely to nominate only white films as as a mostly white Oscar voting pool? Interesting.


In keeping with this theme let me ask you this: Do you think radio stations that play mostly black artists have more black listeners than stations that play mostly white artists? Or do you think that a rap station and a rock station in a diverse city are both just as likely to have majority black audiences?

You make some good points Al, but being  fair and objective is rare with human judgement.

Sometimes black and white men will think and judge alike.
For example, Big Mike Cox and I would tend to judge bubble butt cuties as they preferred female.
If we both judged a BB contest BMC and I would likely pick the same winner ,regardless of race.

And to further elaborate on what you wrote, let's talk about this:

Diversity would be in the roles that are played and the movies made and the screen plays etc. For example: A black guy winning an Oscar for Best Actor for his role in a typical thriller movie isn't really all that "diverse." But that same black guy winning the Best Actor Award for a truly unique role (could be a black-centric)in a unique movie (could be a black-centric) movie would be more "diverse." At least in my eyes.

An Oscar nomination gets all kinds of publicity and generates interest from the public. This often leads to the nominated project being more financially successful. The financial success along with the critical acclaim lead to more future work for the nominees. It's an interconnected cycle that benefits the people who are a part of it. Whether or not you consider a specific role "typical" or "diverse" is a subjective measure. Whether or not an racially exclusive system perpetuates a cycle of exclusion is not.

What I don't agree with is double standards.

For example, we have HBC's ( black colleges) and woman's colleges here in the USA.
The PC police always say these kind of schools provide a unique cultural experience.

But, if an all white male college existed, it would be protested night and day.
The chant would be  we need diversity, not segregation.

I've seen health clubs and gyms offer "woman only" training areas.
Imagine the outrage by the same woman if they had "men only " areas.
