Title: Learning Spanish
Post by: Roger Bacon on November 03, 2012, 01:04:19 PM
I took Spanish in school, I've got a basic understanding.

What's the best way to go from here?  I've been watching Spanish movies and I believe it's helped.

I'm thinking just doing it hardcore getbig style and memorizing vocabulary words is the best way to go.  I've got a really good memory, and I want to knock this mother fucker out.

What should I do?

This happened to me when I watched the girl float across the Rio Grande in her underwear at the end of Sin Nombre.  :-[

Argentinian girls are the most amazing IMO, they're pretty much white with the a touch of sexy latinaness...

Get a Latina slut and make her only speak in Spanish.

Sadly, where I live the only Latinas are middle aged skinny fat illegals with tuberculosis.

Watching film with the subtitles turned on helps a bit.

Best way really is to make spanish friends and just to go be around fluent speakers and try it out on them. Books and courses help, but actual spoken spanish differs a lot.

I heard Paco is giving private lessons  :D

Guess a person near to you speaking that stuff all day is best.
BigAche app tip is good - I hate such gadgets but some of the programs are extremely helpful and cheap.
Pimsleur learning cds are also ace but expensive when you're aiming at advanced levels.

as funny as this advice sounds its actually not bad.  Lived in Barcelona for a year and my girl there only spoke Spanish.  That coupled with submersing myself in a Spanish speaking country allowed me to become fluent.

Great language that you can apply frequently.

Yet me too. Took 3 years in HS and 2 years in college, and i still get fucked on some of the tenses. I bought Rosetta Stone a month or so ago when it was on sale. It is helping but boring as fuck. IMO don't waste the $$$.

I find the same thing the most helpful. Buy blu-rays/DVDs of your fav movies if you don't have them already. And watch them in Spanish with the English subtitles on. Since you know the movies very well, translation is easy.

Sadly, where I live the only Latinas are middle aged skinny fat illegals with tuberculosis.

Now there's an opera.

La Cingáda (fem. The Fucked)*

Wherein an aging, former prostitute from Tijuana, who has renounced her former life, falls in love with a ne’er-do-well, half-a-fag, young Getbigger, and falls back tragically into a life of disrepute to support his ghinsulin** habit. The opera begins with the Getbigger singing the joyful barcarolle, Chupame La Pinga, to his circle jerk buds, and concludes with the fallen woman's haunting, heart-wrenching aria, Soy La Cingáda.***

Yes, it helps a lot. Listening to music in spanish is not a good idea IMO, you know, songs have to rhyme so singers pronounce words slightly different than they should.

At least it was like that for me when trying to learn english, once you know the basics you have to listen the language, my pronunciation is really good, all thanks to The law and order, Dr House and a few others.  8)

Also, Argentines have a distinctive accent, so I recommend you Mexican TV shows, because their accent is more mmm global I'd say.

I made a post Bout this a while back about Italian/German. I have an app for my phone, I start, and Rosetta Stone, but haven't used either to be honest. Been busy, but plan on it next week. I looked into classes at the university level, and may do that. To be honest, I'm planning another euro trip for a few weeks and want to learn before I go, as well as when I'm there. Also been watching Der Untergang a lot.  ;D
