IGF increases when HGH goes up, doesn't it?

Wouldn't an increase in IGF be a good thing?

Here's a link to a mouse trial. I didn't have much time to look extensively but it seems to be a theme in this community.

There is no such thing as anti ageing.  You can keep muscle by working out, stay lean by calorie restriction and protect your skin by not getting too much sun but you are still going to break down in your old age and die about the same time as anyone else.

fasting and low calories in general is supposed to slow down cell degeneration(which is aging)

As I stated in an earlier post, calorie restriction has been proven to keep mice alive a lot longer and probably works in humans as well.  For it to work for humans it seems the daily caloric limit is about 1,800 calories which would make most of us skinny and scrawny weaklings.  The high profile scientist who actually used this diet and wrote a book about it died at age 79 from ALS.  His name was Roy Walford and the book was called the 120 Year Diet.

High IGF levels are desirable for maximal muscle mass but not for longevity

Ill save you a fortune in pills: just exercise regularly and moderately, sleep 8 or so hours a night, don't smoke, take recreational drugs, drink to excess, or have a high stress life and make sure to get outside more..

I've got every one of these covered...........except my life is very high stress.

Though IGF also helps protect brain neurons.

English is not my forte, but from what i could summarize:

- Either by caloric restriction or by fast everyday, reduce caloric intake
- Avoid carbs and do low protein
- Take 500mg of resveratrol everyday (morning)
- Take 1 gram of NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotide) (morning)
- Take 1 gram of metformin at night
- Avoid red meat
- Avoid iron supplements
- Moderate exercise
- Testosterone and BCCA's reduce lifespan.

Though I would think quality of life is more important than total lifespan.

Don't want to sound like a smartass but the guy lived like a monk and died 79?
I would choose the way of my grandpa and dad who smoked, fucked like honey badgers, eat like bears and still out lived him by 5 to 8 years.

Exactly, that was my point that this guy restricted his calories to half and was a skinny scrawny twink and still died at 79 of a debilitating disease.  There is no anti aging diet, drug or lifestyle to keep you alive any longer than anyone else for any real length of time.

No they don't.  Life expectancy is only 83 which is a few years longer than western countries.  If you want to live on rice and sprouts everyday go for it.

Exactly, a part from smoking and drugs which I'm not interested in, I want to live a full life.
Also you can eat so many good and also healthy things and not live like a monk from Tibet

Best way to look younger supplements aside

Stay Lean
Resistance training obviously
Some higher intensity cardio sport, I started doing outrigging and now Surf Skiing after I competed in BBing a few times and I looked far younger than I was and still do.
Obviously no alcohol, rec drugs, smoking, prescription drugs

I disagree with his iron supplements statement, that's great until your levels are low from the training I've done.

Your life expectancy is genetically detemined.

There is little you can do to change it.  The human being however wants to believe he can control this.

Everyone's DNA is different though so just because your father died at 45 doesn't mean you will too.

Extremely poor lifestyle habits can shorten your life just like a deadly car accident.  If you are exposed to plutonium or inhale asbestos you will die sooner.

Life is a crapshoot.

If life expectancy is determined by genetics but you can't use parents as a guide then how do you know it's genetically determined? :-\

However all those genes are mixed up is how it works out.

Apparently results in mice don't necessarily translate to results in humans. Resveratrol and NMN supplements have not shown good results in human trials.
