What is this wierd creature?
« on: August 24, 2011, 04:17:25 AM »
This THING was about 12 inches long and came out a dark corner hissing.. I bravely kicked him away .. where it lay on it’s back for a while allowing me time to snap the pic. Then he rolled back onto his feet and squirted what must have been acid goo because it smoked once it splattered on the floor infront of me. Then it jumped about a meter in the air and landed on the wall and moved like a snake cross cockroach across the room / roof hissing and squealing.

None of the above is true .. besides the pic  ;D which are still pretty freaky  :o
Was actually about 3- 4 inches long, but had some fleshy weight to it. And no I didn’t kill it. I called it Fred & swept it out.

Wonder what it is though ???

Chances are it's some type of fly larva...like a Lacewing, maybe dragonfly. It's not a beetle larva, due to most beetles, especially large ones, their larvae are "grubs".

At first glacé it looked like a Ladybug larva, which has the same shape and coloring, and are very active eaters of aphids. The body morphology of this larva indicates that it is a swift mover and a very likely a predator. Note the legs are long, body is flat and flexible, easy body clearance for manueverability and running.

Very likely it could be of the "bug" family. You should have taken more pics, of the mouth parts and head. Thus, indicating what it feeds on.

It's a dragonfly larva. Congratulations!

You should see when the mouthpart shoots out, it's kinda awesome, and they are highly aggressive as well...I wonder what would win in a fight, a dragonfly larva or a Giant Water Bug.

Of course! Didn't make sense for a dragonfly larva to be away from water that far.
