New York lawmakers have some to the defense of congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez following a report which claims that her fellow democrats are avoiding her while they plan to combat the coronavirus.

The report from the New York Post claims that Cortez's peers are ignoring her over fears she will overshadow the work they are doing to combat the virus in an area with one of the highest infection rates in the entire world.

The report, based on unnamed sources, claims that Ocasio-Cortez "simply rubs many of her fellow New York Democrats the wrong way."

Ocasio-Cortez has become one the most well known politicians in all of the U.S. since her shock victory over Joe Crowley in the Democratic primary of New York's 14th congressional district in 2017 when she was just 28-years-old.

Her frequent and outspoken views, sometimes against her own party, has seen her gain nearly seven million followers on Twitter.

"They are not looking to work with her and they want nothing to do with her," one anonymous source told The Post.

"She hasn't made many friends in the delegation," a staffer in another New York representative's office added.

NYPD union endorses controversial pastor Ruben Diaz Sr. for Congress

The city’s top law enforcement union has endorsed controversial conservative Democratic Councilman Rev. Ruben Diaz Sr. for an open congressional seat in the south Bronx.

The Police Benevolent Association said Diaz is its favored choice in a crowded field of 10 Democratic candidates running in the June 23 primary in the 15th congressional district to replace veteran Rep. Jose Serrano, who is retiring.

Other candidates include Councilman Ritchie Torres, former Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, Assemblyman Michael Blake, Councilman Ydanis Rodriguez and community activist Samelys Lopez, who is backed by lefty firebrand Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who represents the adjacent 14th congressional district.

“Your commitment to public and law enforcement are well recognized, and it would be an honor to have you representing our members in Congress,” PBA president Patrick Lynch said in a letter to Diaz.

“We look forward to working with you towards our shared goal of a stronger, safer New York.”

Diaz, known for stumping with his trademark cowboy hat, said he was honored by the PBA’s support because “I’ve always been a person who believes in law and order.”

The PBA’s endorsement of Diaz Sr., whose son, Ruben Diaz Jr. is the Bronx borough president, will be viewed as a stick in the eye to New York’s progressives and particularly the LGBT community.

Diaz, a Pentecostal minister, is a lightning rod among fellow liberal Democrats for his anti-gay remarks and positions as well as his opposition to abortion rights.

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has spoken at length about her experience during the Capitol Hill riot on Jan. 6. From her live Instagram videos, it has seemed like she was on the front line, facing down Trump supporting rioters in the halls outside her office. But it turns out, Ocasio-Cortez wasn't in the Capitol at the time of the assault on Congress, she was in her office another building entirely.

Ocasio-Cortez's congressional office is in the Cannon House Office Building, according to her website, her Washington, DC address is 229 Cannon HOB. The Cannon HOB is accessible to the Capitol via tunnel. On Tuesday, Ocasio-Cortez spoke to millions of fans on Instragram relaying her past experience of sexual assault, which she said left her traumatized. This experience, she said, was compounded by her what happened to her during the Capitol Hill riot.

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) said that her office is in the same hallway as Ocasio-Cortez, two doors down, and that there were no rioters in that area at any time. She called out the New York representative for her "egregious" claims.

Taking emotion out of the equation, it appears that what happened was that Ocasio-Cortez was in her office in a building on congressional campus at the time the Capitol Building was unlawfully accessed by a mob of violent rioters seeking to disrupt Congress. Ocasio-Cortez was afraid, in her office in another building, and hid in the bathroom.
