Same thing happened to a powerful Republican congressman in Eric Cantor a few years back.

Sometimes these bureaucrats get too cocky and complacent and a candidate comes in from out of nowhere and knocks them out. Especially in a district with as much demographic transition as hers.

2020 will be a better test to see how much footing she has when the former representative comes in with a serious oppositional campaign.

I'm sure she will try to act way more important than a freshman representative should act and will be slapped down by those in leadership positions.  She seems to think that her win in a heavy democratic district was like winning the presidency or something.  It will be interesting to see how Pelosi handles her.

Here’s what you get when you hold primary elections in June: A tiny percentage of party voters determine the congressional candidates.

Even in the most competitive races Tuesday, more than 80 percent of eligible voters stayed home.
In the race that caused an earthquake in the Democratic Party, 28-year-old newcomer Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez upset longtime Rep. Joe Crowley, 57 percent to 42 percent.

But only about 13 percent of registered Democrats turned out to vote in the 14th Congressional District that takes in parts of Queens and the Bronx, according to a preliminary city Board of Elections tally.

There are 214,750 active registered Democratic voters in the district. Only 27,744 voted, and Ocasio-Cortez won by more than 4,000 votes.

Liberal political website Vox is getting accused of jumping the shark after publishing an appeal to “fix the Constitution ASAP” so that 29-year-old incoming Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez can run for president – claiming “there’s no time like the present to start working to abolish arbitrary qualifications.”

Wednesday's lengthy piece, “It’s ridiculous that it’s unconstitutional for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to run for president,” declared that everyone from immigrants to recent college grads should be eligible.


Vox co-founder and senior correspondent Matthew Yglesias wrote that “phenomenon” Ocasio-Cortez “is the biggest star in the Democratic Party,” and therefore it is “completely ridiculous” that the Constitution makes anyone under the age of 35 ineligible to run for president of the United States.

“There’s nothing wrong with old people per se, but essentially everyone has lost a step or two both mentally and physically by their mid-70s,” Yglesias wrote. “The really awful thing about being old is that you just keep getting older over time.”
