started a new gym. rookies are weird

so i joined a new planet fitness right by my house, (i know its gay,(no homo), but its only 10 bucks a month. so i have been going there
just to do cardio, and today i went for a quick shoulder workout. all of the people are rookies as far as i can tell, and they all do the same thing?
they come up to a machine and spray it down with the provided cleaner and wipe the whole machine down, then they do two sets, then they spray it
down again and wipe the machine down again?? it cracks me up.

twenty years ago we didn't even carry hand towels to wipe down equipment. how did it come to this??
