How come so many current competitors cant Nail it???
« on: April 07, 2015, 06:16:11 AM »
"1) They think off-season is an eating contest.
2) See #1: it’s worth repeating.
3) They eat a ton then don’t want to "overtrain", so they don’t train enough.
4) They train too heavy for the sake of training heavy, forgetting you have to WORK a muscle and have to THINK about how to train.
5) Due to 1 and 3 by the time the contest prep phase rolls around they look like the Michelin Man.
6) Thus during the contest prep phase they become marathon runners relying on cardio and other measures to burn fat. In this helter skelter period they are burning off bodyweight but have no idea if it is muscle or fat.
We agreed that the bulking up phase has gotten out of hand. Too many guys bulk up to 300 pounds thinking they’ll come down to 260 in shape. When they get to 260 it’s more like they need to be 240 and the fat burning and muscle wasting games begin. As Chris says, “Of course Dorian Yates fucked the sport up with this bulking up strategy. He did it, so everyone followed – everyone wanted to be 300. But Dorian could handle 300 and carry a lot of muscle at that weight and come in at 260 sliced. He knew what was under that 300. Same with Ronnie Coleman. For too many guys what was under their 300 was not 260 or 250 – it was more like 225.”

In closing Aceto states, “Some guys ask me for advice and email me back their food intake which would support a village in a third world country and a drug protocol that would make Dan Duchaine blush.”"

- fear of losing muscle
- going too much by the scale instead of the mirror
- last minute magic instead of being ready early
- insulin + gh
- not dieting hard enough thinking there's an easy way to get shredded
- not going to the same extremes some oldschool guys went to when it comes to diuretics
- too much testosterone too close to a show
... those are some of the factors in my opinion

Good list.

To me it comes down to 2 basic things:
1. Being too concerned with body wt/size vs. how you look when posing.
2. Belief in the magical contest guru voodoo vs. rigid diet and lowering actual BF%

It's the increase in eating and drug use.  Branch warren is a prime example.

Agree, way too much chemical bodybuilding, not enough work on diet and the gym.

hey man welcome back,,,,

Thanks mate!

How's it going? You still natty?  ;)  ;D

I'm finally over a nasty staph infection and now dedicated to overcome a plateau that I've been sitting at for the past 5 years or so...

'Just' another 10 lbs of muscle in the right places at around 10% bf and without ever letting my head blow up like crazy and I'll be satisfied and probably just
trying to get fitter/stronger after that.

When I saw the recent pic of 'Teh Coach' I just remembered how I used to look when bulking like crazy and what difference water/fat can make on your appearance.

I think Joe has a great body (besides being short but you can't blame him for that) AND is actually a handsome guy (no homo) but being that bloated
really hurts his looks. So this time I'll try everything I can to not become bloated even though I'm sure it will make it harder to become stronger and
gain lean muscle but for me it's just not worth it anymore... I mean some guys can pull it off and still look somewhat attractive while being bloated when they are good
looking to begin with and the bloat is not too extreme but I'm no Go4It to begin with and when I start bulking up and not give a fuck about bloat I simply look ugly as sin.

I'm starting to go offtopic here but it always made me wonder how most competitors nowadays look like a bloated mess 80% of the time while back in the days all bodybuilders
were able to gain muscle without letting their heads getting close to exploding. There are still a few exceptions who always looked pretty good even in the offseason when bulking up - they
did gain some fat but without 30lbs of water... I think that too much testosterone is one factor while eating like a pig in the offseason is another.

Arnie loved Dbol and Deca and I've never seen a pic of him with a bloated face..

Way too concerned about how much they weigh as opposed to how they are looking.   :(

Now knowing how their own bodies react to certain techniques and relying on a "trainer" to tell them instead.
 ::)

Training like total pussies and solely relying on gear.  :-X
