Mine does not have a standing calf machine or a lying down hamstring curl. Effing blows my mind. Neither take up much space. Both are things chicks love to do also. All sorts of other useless equipment.

Squat rack and it's affecting my Shadow boxing skills.

The worst is when it's missing something crucial, but has the space for like 10 completely useless pieces of shit.
-
yeah id like to have a few different hamstring machines as well, all i got is seated.
a pullover machine wouldnt be wrong either
-
A brick wall to prevent people from disturbing me.

Why did you sign up to train there?
-
Also there's frankly something of a liability issue regarding the standing calf machine becuase lots of people load up the Smith press and stand on a raised plastic platform underneath improvising them there, which I think is far less safe.
-
nautilus pullover- i shit you not here in michigan never seen one not once
would love to have one, - have used it when im in vacation in the south or down in mexico

It's very close to my house and Im not at a place where I care that much anymore. Back in the day I would have rejected it outright. I'm spoiled though from training in Golds Venice all those years. So many good machines and all. I don't think I ever had a bad workout there. As long as I got to the gym it was magic.
-
A reverse hyper machine. :-\

I think the place I'M at now is like your old Golds. Not gonna move too far from this place as it's just too important for me. On days like Jan 1st when I gotta train elsewhere, when I get back, I want to crawl on the floor simulating love to it as Kai does to a grapefruit with pure passion, facial expressions included....

We have one, I don't feel it despite several attempts over the years being a big Dorian fan..
-
Bicep supinator

can you train unilateral on that one? I do it that way and it kicks ass big time.
-
No lying leg curl
No hack machine
No calf machine
:(
-
Nah, its exact replica of dorians... Soon as any new member joins they make a bee line for it and then never use it again... Gym owner loves it so its here to stay

LOL! I think one needs to be a certain height and individual biomechanics make up suitable for it.
The dumbell version is great too. At destroying your shoulders, lol..
-
I need a standing calve raise
-
A reverse hyper machine. :-\
Single most important piece of equipment every gym should have, but most don't.

Yeh I think so, its a shame as I do have a great 'mind muscle relationship' ( homo ) in my lats, I was so disappointed when I 1st rocked up to use it, reverse grip , one set to failure....

No way, that is specialized stuff and am rather sure it was not around or even known until rather recently. Can easily do without it..
-
Many things but I miss:
Standing calf
Lat pulldown machine with elbow pads (my favorite, take the biceps out of the equation)
-
(http://atomictoasters.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Fat-Belt-3.jpg)
-
Smith machine
-
One leg hamstring curl machine
Reverse hyper
A real hack squat machine where the pads rest on your shoulders, not this new age padded-hip-thrust machines
Hammer Strength 10 degree incline bench press
I miss Lee Haney's gym. That place had so much awesome equipment. Things I have never seen before or since.

Great way to really get the flipping burgers motion down.

Lots of nonessential "essential" equipment in this thread.
-
A reverse hyper machine. :-\
Wish I had one as well...
-
Would like a "peck deck" to develop the definition and "inner chest"
;)
-

Several have said no standing calf machine. I thought that was standard. wTF?
-
Seated calf raise
Smith machine
They remodeled and threw this shit out to make room for more "classes/cross fit style shit".
-
We got one of those pull-up dip things that you can add counterweight to make it easier, a seated hamstring and a seated calf toe press. All effing worthless. Also a Hammer pull down without a seat. But no standing calf or lying ham curl.
-
Reverse hyper
Belt squat
A third rack
More specialty bars
-
Hack squat
Standing leg curl would be nice too for variety.
We have a standing calf machine, just wish it had more weight. We recently got a seated calf and I was excited to try it but was disappointed in the way it felt. Just did not feel like it was hitting my calves the same as the standing calf......so I pretty much just use the standing calf machine again.

Anything is better than a smith machine.

I really liked the donkey calf machine at Golds.
-
My gym used to have it, but then they got rid of it when they remodeled. I loved this back machine.

Loved this machine. The only problem was that with more than 4 plates each side the padding got painfull.

Standing calf versus seated: soleus versus gastrocnemius. Different muscles.

Damn thats really inconvienent, where am I supposed to do my bicep curls with 2.5lbs on each side?
-
Can't see how a hack squat could be considered essential. Plenty of other ways to hit that muscle group. Seems more like a niche piece of equipment.

A niche piece of equipment that is the size of a VW Microbus.
-
db's over 45 kilo lol
-
Lying leg curl machine ( which i do at Home ). OK Hammies can be trained with other exercises but i like them better than sitting. Also donīt have the standing variation. Did these many moons ago with Iron Boots.

No incline bench??? Why do you guys suscribe there, lol?
Guess you can bring an adjustable bench to the squat rack but then the rack is being used for others who wanna squat.
This thread is making me like my gym more and more...

bet none of your gyms have these...

Funky Bro no kid now knows the name Weider never mind a swingbell curl or other exercises with this simple piece of kit.

just another tool to hit the muscles from another angle, just a variation of the same theme which is what all exercises and machines are..
-
Dedicated T-Bar spot. Idiots in my gym keep breaking mirrors by having the other end not locked in place.

Good one.. considering you can buy a relatively cheap bar holder

If mirrors kept getting broken, then your gym owner is kinda dumb to simply not get the little socket you stick the bar in for a designated rowing area. Also, when you get passed x amount of weights, the bar does not stay in place...

I always position it under one side of a squat rack. But I agree a cheap holder would be a wise investment. It is quite amusing to see someone sack themselves when the bar juts up.

I've been out of training for-f**king-ever given my diverticulitis (and complications therefrom), but when I DO get back to it, I lament the fact that both of the best-equipped branches of my local Y lack an old-school pec deck. A plate-loaded one would be particularly nice.
Said branches have a decent variety of HS stuff, including the Iso-Incline, the DY Row and the Iso-Wide Chest (among others), but I wish they had more G1 Nautilus stuff, particularly for the biceps and triceps. The Multi-Biceps machine is pretty good, but the Multi-Triceps and its karate-chop shit ... meh. I worked my ass off on that thing as a 15 and 16-year-old and, even when I was stacking the thing in good form, my triceps lagged. Arthur Jones was a genius beyond that which most people can even begin to comprehend; however, he was definitely NOT God.

Hope you can make enough of a recovery that you can train again, man. Sucks to be forced out of the gym.

That's when I appear out of nowhere to make them nuts feel better!

Many thanks, my good man.
I am in fact ready to go again, but most decent gyms in my neighborhood are still too expensive for my tastes. If only I could borrow some of those fistfuls of Pounds from Uncle Jr.! :D

What's too expensive?
-
bet none of your gyms have these...
Golds Venice used to have these triangle shaped dumbells that you would flick over onto your wrists to use for lateral raises. They were awesome for that one exercise.
-
No standing calf and a conventional hyper extension bench. It has those 45 degree ones that are close to worthless.

Hard to understand why they introduced these.

whats the difference 45 degrees compared to the other?
-
whats the difference 45 degrees compared to the other?
The contraction on the top is much less on a 45-one.
-
whats the difference 45 degrees compared to the other?
If you tried both it becomes quickly apparent the resistance falls off near the top of a 45 degree where you need it most. The Russians introduced the movement with their Olympic lifters. They used a gymnastic horse and hooked their feet onto wooden rungs bolted to a wall. They put a barbell on their traps. I use a plate behind my head/neck area.

Looks like a really expensive one of these.
