Reeves physique lies in his square chest, wide shoulders and overall near-perfect proportionality and symmetry... plus his handsome face.
These qualities, for many men, are more important than simply having big muscles. Lee Labrada was a big believer in this type of physique.

True. He had pretty damn good development for his day, but that same level of development looks a lot less impressive on others. Frame, muscle shape, proportion, symmetry, etc. Enviable genetics.

bigger than some of them is well and good but that 20lbs heavier will maybe only look like 5lbs when they are lean and cut.

Steve Reeves would destroy Adonis. Adonis weighs 160 lbs. Its not tough to be ripped at 160. I'm not taking anything away from Adam (he looks great), but lets be serious here. Reeves genetics where among the best ever. With todays knowledge of the human body, he would be shredded like Adonis at about 215.

I do 105-110's for reps in 4-6 range at about 175-180 bodyweight right now (20-25 degree angle and 3 second negatives), so I would think with the extra 40-50 lbs he could do that. Benching is strong in my family (dad could bench 300 at 155 lbs). I couldn't imagine doing that at that weight however.
What stinks is that my gym only goes up to 100's so I have to strap on extra weight to my forearms with my gloves. Very awkward and hurts my wrists a bit sometimes as they push against the dumbbells.

reeves would DESTROY any getbig contestant, 6-1 215 certainly lean enough with a 30 inch waist and the best taper by far, and dont forget ACTUAL LEGS INCLUDING CALVES.

Reeves had naturally broad shoulders a very large pecs, with a naturally narrow waist. It wouldn't even be close.

Structure , proportions , where the muscle is placed , Reeves had unaturally small waist & hips and wide calvicles this is very desirable for a bodybuilder he had a 29" waist at 6'1" and 215 pounds

Thats exactly right ND, steve had very small hips and waist for a big man back in the 1940s-50s, his calvicles were wide, and every muscle was in Proportion with the other, nothing over powered the over, the closest ive seen to Steve in a modern day sence was Bob Paris in 1982-83.
