::)..Jane sometimes like to jump in the dryer after its done and the clothes are warm.so I let her do her thing and when she's done and gets out I take out the clothes and shut the door.

No.
Which is the male and which is the female?
It is hard to tell the difference unless they are both on the nest. The female is larger than the male. This female has a ridge above her eyes that goes further back than on the male, and her eyes are surrounded by a greyish shadow; the male has a line around his eyes that makes them look “beadier.” Some think that the male’s head is “sleeker” than the female’s.
What is the history of this pair?
They have been together since the winter of 2007-2008. Her markings at that time indicated that she was about 4 years old. They successfully hatched and fledged 2 eaglets in 2008, then 3 in 2009, and 3 more in 2010.
When were the eggs laid in 2010, and when did they hatch?
First egg was February 25, second on February 28, third on March 5. First hatch was April 3, second on April 6, third on April 9. All three eaglets fledged and are now on the wing but are not being tracked.
What is the area around the nest like?
The nest is in a cottonwood tree on private property near the Decorah Fish Hatchery (operated by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources), on the banks of the babbling waters of Trout Run in extreme northeast Iowa. The nest can be seen from the hatchery, but visitors to the hatchery should keep their distance from the nest tree, both to respect the private property where the tree is located and to avoid disturbing the eagles.

The Raptor Resource Project (RRP) maintains the cams, of which there are two, and the feed is streamed online 24/7. Both are positioned on one of the nest’s supporting limbs about 4-5 feet above the nest. The main cam is automated and is trained on the nest. The other cam has pan-tilt-zoom capabilities (PTZ). At dark the main cam switches to infrared (invisible to the eagles) night-time view. To see pictures of the cam installation, go to http://tinyurl.com/6xbu7om
Who does the panning, tilting, and zooming, and when does that happen?
Bob Anderson, Executive Director of RRP, switches to the PTZ cam when time and weather permit, and especially when there appears to be interesting activity in the nest. He will be especially attentive when hatching begins.

Is the nest on a farm or something? I keep seeing an animal(s) walking by. Looks like it could be a horse or ??? Maybe it's a dog. Hard to tell with the distance.

She swapped places of them ( rolled them over maybe ? )and she fluffed up the nest around them a little .. I was watching for awhile it only took her a minute or 2 .. it will be hard to catch if you're not lucky to be watching at that minute .. I can't wait to see the hatchlings :)

very kewl !! ... I'm going to a friends place this weekend and there are a few eagle nests on top of power line supports close by .. they are friggin HUGE .. I'll get some pictures if it's clear .. it's not the same as seeing them in person but maybe seeing them on top of those high steel things can show some little bit of how big they are ... last time I was there I think there were 3 or 4 .. they stay put unless the weather takes them out I think

How big is the nest?
5-6 feet across, about the same deep; it weighs about 1½ tons.

They are strong birds to tote those big branches and build a nest that large ... I watched for about an hour but saw no movements at all so I'm clueless on whether they were occupied or not .. I was hoping to see an eagle

Bald eagle's nest is large and called 'eyrie'. It is located at the top of tall trees or on cliffs. Eagles return to breed on the same site year after year, adding new materials. Then, nest becomes larger, and can reach 10 feet in diameter and one ton in weight. It is made with twigs and leaves, and lined with finer wood materials, mosses, grasses and feathers.
Female lays 1 to 3 dull white eggs. Incubation lasts about 31 to 45 days by both adults. During this time, one parent remains always on the nest, to protect eggs from predators (squirrels, ravens, gulls...). Male brings food to the nest and sometimes, female shares hunting after the first days at nest. Young are fed and brooded by both parents until the first flight, at about 12 weeks. Eaglets are full size at 12 weeks of age, and they can fly well at three months old.Only 50% of young survive the first year. If two chicks hatch, the older will kill the smaller one. It is not uncommon. Parents don't make efforts to stop this behaviour.

The wind is rough at the nest today ... you can see the swaying .. must be the camera is on a lighter branch .. I wonder why they don't make the nest's deeper to protect more from the wind .. must be to keep the view open for the parents to watch for predators ?

RRP hopes to band these juvies and place a satellite transmitter on one of them. The juvies will be captured on the ground a couple of weeks after they fledge. The small band with its identifying color and number goes around one of the ankles and does not bother or endanger the bird. The transmitter is mounted loosely and comfortably like a tiny backpack, and it does not interfere with flight or with head or neck movement. The process takes just a few minutes and does not frighten or harm the birds. It is possible to take measurements of the juvies as they are banded to determine their sex. Banding eventually gives researchers information on how far the bird has flown from its birth nest once it has died or is found injured; the band might also be spotted during feeding, nesting, or migrating and thus can be useful in tracking the eagle's movements. The transmitter will allow researchers to track the juvie regularly via GPS and will yield invaluable information on its behavior. The transmitter is designed to fall off after a few years. Banding and placing the transmitter will be done by Bob Anderson, Director of RRP, and other raptor experts who have banded many birds before and who always follow the safest protocols, and who will have obtained the required permits to do so. We are very sorry to announce that D12 is dead. D12 was found electrocuted at the base of a power pole on a Sunday morning. We notified the power company, who modified the top of that pole on Sunday and several other poles in the area on Monday. As of this morning, they are continuing to identify and modify poles to make them raptor safe. If you find an electrocuted raptor or other bird by a pole, take it to the nearest wildlife center (if it is still alive) and contact your state DNR or local game warden and the utility company that owns the pole. You will need to:
1. Provide information about the dead or injured bird.
2. Identify the nearest pole to the electrocuted raptor by the pole identification number (on the pole itself) and local landmarks such as cross streets or street addresses (if applicable).
Include as many specifics as you can regarding the species and the incident. If possible, take photographs of the raptor and the pole to submit with your reports and notes.
Power lines themselves are not an electrocution hazard for birds (birds can and do sit on wires), but unshielded poles can be dangerous. The Avian Protection Plan Guidelines include information on raptor safe poles and modification of existing poles. New structures are fairly safe, but older poles may not be. Older poles may have been installed either before people were aware of electrocution hazards to wildlife, or during the decline of raptor populations in America, when interaction was less likely. We are sorry to announce that Four, the single remaining bird from the 2014 Decorah alumni to remain in the wild, was electrocuted on Tuesday, March 2nd. This is the fourth eaglet from Decorah that we know of to die from electrocution. Bob and a good friend picked her carcass up on Thursday after the Eagle Valley team notified us that they received a mortality ping. Bob and Brett examined her on Saturday and verified the cause of death.

Apparently, some U.S. states worked with the Canadian government to import some Eagles from up north. That's how we got ours. I guess they're hoping to increase the American population.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Now that mom and dad have two nests, we will need to differentiate between them. The nest mom and dad used from 2007 through 2012 will be called N1, formerly known as The Nest. The nest mom and dad built for the 2013 nesting season will be called N2, formerly know as Yonder Nest.
Here is a handy map for you to see the nests and the surrounding area. Neighborhood Map.
Here's some basics about N2 which is 500 feet to the right of N1 when standing at the Hatchery.
How high is the nest? About 60 feet in a cottonwood.
How big is the nest? When the cameras were installed, N2 was about 4 feet across, 3.5 feet deep, approximately 460 pounds, and will gain approx 200 lbs every year
How old is N2? The eagles started building it in Oct. 2012. It was ready for the 2013 nesting season.
The following information is provided about N1.
How high is N1? About 80 feet.
How big is N1? About 6 feet across, about 5 feet deep; it weighs close to 1367 lb.
How old is N1? The eagles built it in 2007 and used it to successfully fledge 14 eaglets. A previous nest close by fell when a windstorm broke one of the branches.
Which is the male and which is the female? It is hard to tell the difference unless they are both on the nest. The female is larger than the male. This female has an arched ridge above her eyes that goes further back than on the male, and her eyes are surrounded by a greyish shadow; the ridge above the male’s eye is shorter and seems a little closer to the eye. The male has a line around his eyes that makes them look “beady,” and his head looks “sleeker” than the female’s.

What is the history of this male and female?
They have been together since the winter of 2007-2008. The female's markings at that time indicated that she was about 4 years old. The male was already mature in 2007. There is no way to know his age.
Once an eagle reaches maturity at 5 years of age, there is no way to determine their age if they have not been tracked prior to turning 5. Here's a link to the feather changes that occur in an eagle's first years before they mature. Plumage Changes in Sub-Adults
They successfully hatched and fledged 2 eaglets in 2008, 3 in 2009, 3 in 2010, 3 in 2011, 3 in 2012, 3 in 2013 and 3 in 2014.

What is the area around N2 and N1 like? The Nests are in cottonwood trees on private property near the Decorah Fish Hatchery (operated by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources), on the banks of the babbling waters of Trout Run in extreme northeast Iowa. N1 can be seen from the hatchery, but visitors to the hatchery should keep their distance from the nest tree, both to respect the private property where the tree is located and to avoid disturbing the eagles. Here is a ground-level video of the surroundings, taken in March 2010. This video shows the eagles’ point of view.

Why are the eaglets called D##?
The first place is D for the Decorah, Iowa, nest site. Numbers following the D acknowledge the number of eaglets since 2008. For the 2015, the eaglets will begin with D21.
Traditional names can create an undue tendency to anthropomorphize. While the human emotion that may be attached to the eaglets is understandable, an alpha-numeric system for referencing them may help us distance ourselves to observe the wonder of wildlife and nature at work.
This reference system will allow RRP to integrate their findings more easily with other researchers.
