if you're not doing deadlifts then do both of them, if you're doing deads then just do db rows.

for back development, i used to do a staggered thing. BB rows for my heavy lift, then pullups, then lighter DB rows, then pulldowns.

I get too tired on db rows when going heavy to give both sides equal effort. I prefer BB rows.

you shouldn't do it in direct sequence. treat each side like a different set. do your reps on the left side, wait a minute, then the right.

the trick is to take your normal rest period between sets before doing the opposite arm, do one arm, wait your normal 2-3 minutes or whatever you take between sets and do the other arm.

IMO BB rows are not as effective as T-bar or DB row and are also far more exhausting and potentially injurious due to the loads put on the large muscles including lower back. Schwarzenegger for example substituted T-bar for BB rows.

Thats true I don't wait between arms. I'll try that and it will fix the problem for sure.

I prefer BB rows but I never include them if I do Deads the same day. Db rows are more analytical, BB rows are better if you want to train heavy. Training back is, to me, more complex than any other body parts as I feel there's a lot of different exercises that work well and all bring something different. So I'll alternate from one session to the next.

I found that works best for me. Used to avoid them until I started doing this.

I always saw Mike O'hearn doing
heavy dumbell rows.

Never a barbell row.
Most are all show no go!

When your hand position changes the target muscle changes as well … so one arm dumbbell row and bent over rows are not the same and neither can subsidize the other … for a well advanced bbers … both should be included in their training and for a beginner dumbbell row is easier at the early stages till he gets use to the barbell rows.

bbell rows all the way, the best backs have all been built around big rows, dbell and t-bar are ok, but are substitutes to the main exersize
