derek jeter with his 2 hits today 3320 career has  passed paul molitor for 8 th place on the all time hit list if you don't count bigot cap anson. j r smith has just broken the all time single game record for 3 pt attempts in a game with 22 he made 10.

DYK once again raul ibanez just got his 2000 hit most of this came after he turned 30 years of age naturally it was a homer his 3rd  of the year.  he also was playing first base in this game against the mets, with the high-priced pujols being the dh.

Ike Davis is the first player to hit a grandslam while playing for two different teams in the same calendar month in the same year. he hit one for the mets before he was released and one for his new team the pirates this april. ironically both slams were against the reds.

the nfl record for rushing tds for a QB is 14 in one year by cam newton and 43 for a career by steve young. but if you include the cleveland browns before they joined the nfl the record would be 44 tds by otto graham from 1946-1955. ;D

dyk that the yankees are as of this date 5-9-2014 only 35 wins away from 10k. several national league teams have done this already but only the dodgers have done it without playing 20 k games. dodgers played 19994 games with a record of 10414 wins and 9441 losses a .525 winning pct.[i know it doesn't add up possibly tied games included?]  while the yankees have played only 17643 games and have won 9965 and lost only 7565 for a 568 winning pct.[ again it does't add up possibly more tie games in the early days?]

checked it out there was a lot of ties in the early days. but even more surprising was the new york yankees were actually the original baltimore orioles franchise from 1901-1902. 1903-1912 they were called the new york highlanders[actually knew that]. and officially became the yankees in 1913 to present day.

DYK that this date in history 65 years ago marked the first confrontation between two black players at the plate. don newcomb was pitching for the dodgers  as hank thompson was batting for the giants. both teams were still in ny of course.

that derek jeter  just scored his 1921 run all as a yankee . by doing so he passed a-rod to move into sole possession of 10 th place on the all-time list. musial is in ninth and too far out of reach with only a few games left before he[jeter]  rides into the sunset.

dyk that d.murray is the fourth fastest guy to 1000 yards in nfl history doing it in 8 games . only jim brown in 1958 and oj simpson 73 and 75  and terrel davis 98 did it faster all 7 games. brown's year was only a 12 g sched so he ended up with 1527 for yr. simpson ended up over 2000 the one year and 1873 the other 14 g season. and td ended up over 2k in 16 g...

if he was a pure pitcher for sure he would be. chart didn't take wes ferrel into account either, he would be second on this list if they did.

dyk the originator of wearing batting gloves was ken the hawk harrelson.   one day he didn't think he was going to play so he went out before the game and played 36 holes of golf. when he reported to the park he saw his name was in the starting lineup. rather than tell his manager his hands were hurting from playing golf, he just used his golf gloves to ease the pain somewhat. he hit 2 homers that night....  other players took note a trend was started... :D
